Why shocked? She isn't!
6 years have passed since we lost Anne. Every time there's a scene in Ken's living room with Tracey and Peter there too, I still half expect Deirdre to come in from the kitchen and say, as she often did, something funny. Anne Kirkbride I'm sure, is still keeping an eye on things on Coronation Street - many of the cast say they do feel her presence there now and then. God bless you Anne - you are missed. RIP 💐
A lovely tribute - very moving to see her co-star Bill Roache so emotional at her loss. Anne Kirkbride's life was not a long one, but but it was a wonderful one! And quality is so much more important than quantity. God bless that lovely woman, she brought so much joy to so many in her time on the planet - her loved ones can be so very proud. X
I'm crying already. We Canadians will miss our lovely Deirdre. Annie was a gem, so funny and with that wonderful voice. Her comedic timing was perfect. And she was a babe too, all the men loved Deirdre. I will miss you Deirdre Barlow. may you rest in peace.
Im in Spain crying I watched corrie all my life she died on my 27 th bday I miss her already im from Ireland and we all are in shock xxxx
RIP Anne, you will be so sadly missed. I have been watching Coronation Street my entire life, I watched as a small child with my father and continued for my entire adult life. Anne played one of my favourite characters in Deidre and Corrie just won't be the same without her. I feel as though I have lost a member of my own family. My thoughts and prayers go out to Anne's family and to all of her Coronation Street family, cast and crew alike.
God Bless You 'Darling' Anne Kirkbride, May You Rest in Peace, Yes, Still Very Much Missed, May Everyone Stay Safe with the Global Pandemic of 2020, XX
'Deirdre and Me'; a lovely 48 min tribute to Anne made on her 40th Anniversary on Coronation Street 2012 here on KZread. Really enjoyed hearing her talk about her growing up years her Father painting beautiful villa in Spain and her loving husband David. RIP xx
What a beautiful woman...so kind & decent... watched her since I was a young girl..Rip Anne Kirkbride....thank you so much for the laughs & the tears through the years... irreplaceable! Godbless you 🙏🌹♥️
I am also an American and first began Coronation Street on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp). I loved the character Deirdre. She was so real and down to Earth. The show will not be the same without her.
Still very much missed R.I.P Annie

RIP Anne Kirkbride xx
Feel sorry for the cast and her family R.I.P ANNE XXXXXX:-(
Is anyone watching this since Johnny Briggs passed away this week. ?
I watched Anne(Deidre) for 40 years. She was an inherent part of 'the street'. I was a bit concerned when I heard she was taking a month or so off. Her voice had become very raspy and she just started to look like she was not feeling well even though she was always brilliant on Corrie. Just so sad. Won't be the same without her. And so young only 60. Bill (Ken Barlow) is more than 20 years her senior. Feel so sad for all cast crew and her family. It is very obvious they are all close.
Will be so very sadly missed and so very much remembered ! Sleep well !
This really hurts my heart; I can't imagine how the Corrie UK fans must feel right now. I watched Coronation Street on the CBC in the late 90s through the mid 00s, mainly because Are You Being Served namechecked the Ken/Deirdre/Mike storyline. And while Deidre frustrated me with some of her decisions (Dev), she was very enjoyable to watch, especially when Blanche was being Blanche to the nth power whenever Deirdre or Ken messed up. The Weatherfield One story and Ken finding out about Deidre and Dev were the storylines that stood out for me, along with her friendship with Liz. May she rest in peace.
Very, very sad. I wish she had not smoked so much RIP.
This is so sad that She has Passed.I distinctly remember rushing home from middle school to find out what was going to happen with Hre Mike & Ken. I also remember her Cancer from years ago & she Survived,A real fighter. My Sympathize to her family & THousands of friends.R.I.P Anne Kirkbride.
My prayers are for her family and friend for comfort! She was one of the great actresses of all time! Give me June Brown on Eastenders and Anne Kirkbride on Corry any day!
Tragic. As an American, I got hooked on Coronation Street during the tram crash story a few years ago (U.S. soaps have NEVER staged such a feat). Getting all the characters sorted was a labor of love; however, the FIRST character that nabbed my attention was Deirdre Barlow. That wonderful gravelly voice, the spot-on comedic timing... the presence that dominated the entire screen! And, refreshing for an American, a middle-aged female soap character who remained attractive without surgical enhancements. Whether she was in the midst of a storyline or merely commenting from the sidelines, she was dynamite! So sorry she went so young...

Good for you! I am a Canadian and Coronation St. or Corrie was an Institution. For many folks, especially in Toronto, Ont., it was a Source of Comfort since many of the Residents are from England so it's like having Home in their Houses each day. There was always a realism that you saw on The Street that you would never see on US Soaps, I think you could have sent The Coopers from Guiding Light and they would adjust but not someone like Nikki Newman. Daran Little a Former Writer who would later Write for All My Children got his start on The Show.

I agree. I'm another American who loves this show. First started watching on CBC in 1990 back when Deirdre was sporting the perm and the big glasses. She was a gem and Corrie will never be the same without her..

You know it's at times like these that US Soaps could have taken a page from The UK. The Actors/Actresses still have great storylines no matter what their age.

laminage I'm Canadian as well. I find the American soaps just don't compare. I stopped watching them a long time ago. Corrie is a much loved programme all round the world it seems. Many many expats living here, my own Mum was from Manchester, a war bride. It's their little slice of home. And one of the best was Annie, I can't believe we won't see her again. Everything LoLOLUther said goes for me too.

You don't say! Did you ever watch Old School Episodes of Emmerdale or even Eastenders. I bought some DVD's pertaining to Corrie including the First Black & White Episodes. Remember when Ena and Elsie had that fight in The Street and Ena broke a Window. Can you imagine Bert Bauer, Nancy Hughes, Alice Horton, or even Jo Stafford dealing with her. They'd beg to go home.
rest in peace anne I love yyou xx
I remember her when she first started in Corrie.i miss her today 2020

This was 9 years ago already. Where does the time go.
I've just now learned that she has died. i'm so sorry to hear that she is gone. I've been watching corrie from the usa since I was a teenager. we could watch it on the canadian channels, where I grew up, in niagara falls ny. then a few years ago I got caught up on huluplus. I feel as though I've lost an old friend.
Love the song x
Anne Kirkbride's 70th Birthday From 2024 ❤
how sad that anne kirkbride died it's the end of an era
R.I.P Anne Kirkbride 😭😭
RIP
KEN! DO SOMETHING! Miss you Anne
Soo miss Anne :-(
She also indirectly was responsible for Bad Girls since her Prison Storyline was so popular. Isn't it amazing how Actors/Actresses do Coronation St., Then Bad Girls, or Bad Girls then Coronation St. It's kind of like Two US Soaps, some Start on Guiding Light then do All My Children, or All My Children then Guiding Light.
😊 May she be at peace now 😊
I liked Ann Kirk Bride playing Dierdre Barlow in Coration Street. Carol WilsonX
Anne Kirkbride died on Monday 19th January 2015. I am watching this on Sunday 19th January 2020. It's 5 years ago today now since Anne Kirkbride passed away who played Deirdre Barlow on Coronation Street.

I still miss him too 😔 Annie was one very special lady and a Corrie institution for sure ❤
Ann you will miss very lon3 time
Was she ever decorated By The Queen. I also realized she was very lucky. Think about it, she started on The Show in 1972 and in The US, Two Actresses started on a Soap. Victoria Wyndham who played Charlotte Waring on Guiding Light who would play Rachel on Another World from 1972 until it's Cancellation in 1999. Kathryn Hays played Kim Hughes on As the World Turns from 1972 until it's Cancellation in 2010. Alot of Actresses start out o Soaps and get kicked to The Curb like Brenda Dickson (Ex-Jill Foster Abbott) on The Young & The Restless.
Bless she will be missed, wish she never smoked though.
