This pretty much explains the sheer project scale of each Gran Turismo installment, not just Gran Turismo 2 and the 2000 that later became 3.

I do have to say, what Kaz said about the game helping his real life driving is totally true. I started out playing the shit out of these games and I got really good. I have GT1-GT5 and I play those all the time. When I got my license and my car (2002 Mustang V6), I realized I could drive like in the games because they're so damned real! I've done fast cornering and all that shit, and fast straightaways on public roads for a while with good finesse. THANK YOU GRAN TURISMO!

In the GT2000 video, Kaz made a LOT of promises that were broken once we got the finalized game known as GT3. -7:25 The ability to choose your helmet and racing suit wasn't present until GT5... -8:06 "5 to 10 new courses"... How many courses were actually new in GT3? -Tokyo Route 246 -Cote D' Azur -Complex String A whopping 3 courses. And he promised new dirt courses, but in the final GT3 there are no new dirt courses (I don't count Swiss Alps as a new course b/c 75% of that course shares its layout with Smokey Mountain South from GT2). And he mentioned drag racing too. -8:19 The only course with different weather in GT3 was SSR5, and even then it was a separate track and not just an option. And ignoring the reverse courses, none of the courses had changeable time. None of the things Kaz mentioned came until GT5. -9:16 Kaz promised the return of mechanical damage from GT2 but it didn't make it. I love his reason for not giving the cars visual damage, saying the manufacturers don't want their cars "blown up or battered". Blown up? This isn't Burnout, now! Ironically, visual car damage was also added in GT5. -9:55 The idea of sharing times, as well as a ranking system (aka a leaderboard), would've actually been very cool for a game of its time. Of course now pretty much every game ever uses one!

What even is the point of your comment? As previous comments on this thread state, none of what Kaz said were promises, they were plans that, if possible, would be followed through with. There's a mountain of unused features within all GT games that we can look at and say _"Hey, they wanted to add something that was planned and talked about before by the developers, but it was scrapped for [insert potential or official reasoning here]."_ And what I find absurdly stupid is that you yourself mention that literally all the features promised (planned) were added in GT5. Who gives a damn about what he promised for GT2000 if we have nearly all of that stuff now? You basically destroyed the purpose your comment may have had. I also don't understand why you and so many others accuse Kaz of lying, not delivering on "promises," etc. It feels like you didn't listen to the way he phrased his plans in a way that should have been obvious to you that he wasn't making promises. You accuse him lying, when there's evidence in the game files to show that some effort was put into completing certain game elements. Plus, most of the futures were added in later games. You and others in your camp also don't understand how it isn't Kaz's fault that these things weren't implemented. It was up to the entire development team to deliver, they tried, but they couldn't. Sowwy ;( So what I'm trying to say is this: you as a whole, as well as your comment, are / is a mistake.

There was damage, only in arcade though and really only affects steering, maybe speed too. Though idk if that was GT1 or 2 or both but I know I've seen the option for it for Arcade Mode.

@@georgejakob1451 You can't shift all the blame onto one person for not delivering on things that were planned, not promised, to be added into the game. Remember that this is a large development team that has to make sure every little piece fits perfectly, and still release a game as quickly as possible. Development on certain planned features has been found within the game files for many of the GT games. In other words, they clearly wanted to deliver on those plans, but couldn't due to complications with development, time constraints, licensing, etc.

Damn Kaz looks chubby in the cheeks in the 90's.

Kaz promised so much for Gran Tuismo but never delivered. There was no online for GT3 they try to keep everything exclusive to the Japanese market while ignoring the North American market.

I can agree to this but I always wanted to know as a kid why were games like Gran Turismo Concept and GT2000 was never released in North America. To be honest when I figured this out I was bummed cause I feel like Gran Tuismo is the only series of games that has some personality. Sure GT3 was the best racing game of all time but the North American market seems to be more limited in this case.

Yes, it was true that during development, drag racing was supposed to be a mode in GT2, but it was cut because they wanted the game out by Winter 1999. That is why some copies of the game without the Greatest Hits label (until the Version 1.1 release) only had a max attainable completion percentage of 98.2%. The percentages weren't recalculated until Version 1.1 was released.

Pretty interesting how they seem to have tested at infinion/Sonoma. I seen that in the 1st games production too

The soundtrack release may of been junky, but the bonus disc was worth it!

It takes over 250 days now to make just one car for gran turismo.

Awesome video. Don't remember ever seeing this come with my copy of GT2. Does anybody know the backstory from this? (Did it come with the game, did you have to be a member of PSUG, was it a pre-order bonus of sorts, etc.)

Pardon for bumping this ages-old comment, but as far as I can tell this bonus disc came with the GT2: Music at the Speed of Sound soundtrack CD.

Why didn’t they use sun shading in the final Gran Turismo game? :/

Even though they might not be accurate at least they are not recycled and each car has it's own sound and it changes when you tune your car.
