    @@farazkhawaja4402 no, why would it burn up ? If it's not in atmosphere it won't be getting friction and in space it can make that speed. Because of its speed made in space it will hit the surface before it could be vaporised in the atmosphere.

    @@cryonim Very wrong It would still need to travel through earths atmosphere and would certainly vaporise, I don't know why you're using it's fast speed as an argument against this, you seem to think that it's so fast, that the atmosphere wouldn't notice it long enough to burn it, in reality, that higher speed would do nothing but count against it, it still has 10,000km of atmosphere to fly through, and the quicker the speed, the more friction and heat generated, the more likely it would be to burn up, which it certainly would

    ​@Turd Ferguson not really, the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs is estimated to have hit the earth with about 2-80 times the energy Halleys comet would, with the speed it currently got. Remember that halleys comet is a loose collection of ice and dust, so it's a lot less dense
