Myself and two others were contracted to take down a similar elevator / feed mill thirty years ago. We did it by removing the roof & dropping the walls down onto each floor removing all the tin & pulling all the nails. It was constructed of 2x16 first floor, 2x12 second floor 2x10 third floor 2x6 fourth floor and 2x4 fifth & sixth floors. All the corrugated tin was saved except for half a dozen pieces and resold by the owner as the down side was like new. All the dimensional lumber was saved and resold the only lumber not salvaged was the sheeting under the tin. Total time was 30 days and the owner was able to recoup his costs three times over.

Those real 2 bys are like gold now.
I was just exploring a massive abandoned grain elevator that was in the lengthy process of demolition! It was so sketchy but so much fun and I got a great view of the city! But the whole time I was thinking about what would happen if the construction team showed up and started demolishing it while I was inside!

Too bad. Maybe next time.
Does anyone else feel the urge to throw a lit match into that fresh cloud of organic grain dust? You know, just to see the fireball and subsequent mushroom cloud?

I didn't feel the urge to but I know what grain dust can do, I lived in a North Dakota farm town for 50 years.

Grain elevator fires are anything but "controlled". Lite the grain dust & you have your mushroom cloud alright & a whole bunch of insurance claims
People think he is slow and no good but he knew how to bring it down as one piece !!!! Good work , it took only 40 minute !!!!!!!
First contact with building starts at 6:55.
just skip to 40 min.
Well done, but w-a-a-a-y too long! I skipped ahead to the actual toppling.
This video is half over and I don't think they are going to get it down in this one.
Shouldn't those operators be attending an elementary school somewhere.
Now that would of made a good 4 of July barn fire.
Both operators are rank beginners.
Why not let the local fire dept. have some practice and be done with the job in the same decade?
Soo much wood could have been repurposed.

@@Nemopoly Just set it alight and burn the sucker. Less to dispose of then.
when the excavators were on sides at (30:07) was similar to Jurrasic world scene ; "uhh the parental debate over infant, is now...... Academic"
If you read the description it says that there's an old railroad spike they're trying to save.

When I read the description there were no spikes to save.... I have an old one from Baltimore (B&O), I could have sent it to them before the end of this video.....
Well, that was a complete waste of almost 45 minutes of my life!
Tell the old gall to put a hard hat on!
What's with the guy on the right, firs time on an excavator ?
I liked the Elementary School remark. I've had more fun watching nails rust.

Could save a lot of time and effort with a match.
this is painful to watch

Could use some serious editing. There is no action for the first 6.5 min. and the whole video was a waste of time.
Glad nobody was decapitated by any loose sheet metal.
Watched this at 2x speed and it was still too slow. The money shot is at 40:40.
sad loss of a prairie sentinel.
I think these guys were trying to scratch the building to death.

I believe they were trying to remove the tin and other metal to keep it out of the rest of the debris, but they should have had thumbs installed on their buckets and that could have been done in advance of the demolition with a excavator that had a longer arm to reach higher. Other then that they knew what they were doing going slow and controlling the demo. Anyone could go in and knock it down quickly and most likely collapse on the machine trapping the operator inside. Plus they need to justify their price...to quick and the company gets a reputation of overcharging.
At this rate the structure will collapse on its own from old age. Geeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz do something!!!!!

They are not set up for demo. No cab protection or hose shrouds. So I'm guessing they don't do alot of this work.

You have no idea how those old grain elevators were built, they had 12 inch and more solid wood walls.
What town is this? Idiotville? No one understands the concept of barricades.
I love how everyone is complaining about how long it took for them to demolish the thing, I guess they don't realize that they had to tear it down in a specific way so it would fall in the planned drop zone. you can't just start tearing at the building haphazardly
