    That last map kinda looks like a colored version of "If the Central Powers won WW1" as it shows Mexico having the land promised by Germany in the Zimmerman telegram (Arizona, New Mexico and Texas) or where the Brest-Litovsk treaty is withheld. Although I can't defend the author, he has a PhD cmon

    Places like India, South Africa, and more are also missing from the blue, and Italy isn't clearly labeled.

    There are other things wrong about the map, like Ukraine and Belarus being independent. South Africa, British Raj, Egypt, and Brazil are also not being labeled as part of the Allies. Italy did eventually join the Allies, but that was after the Allies started their invasion of Italy. Saudi Arabia was neutral in WW2, but is labeled as part of the Allies in this Map.

    Another thing that should be pointed out is that Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan are shown as independent, *even though those three countries did not gain independence until the USSR collapsed in 1991.*

    I know you're joking but the map depicts Texas being part of Mexico, not being independent. Plus the map is "trying" to show only the Allies, that doesn't mean that the grey countries would be the Axis or even the Central Powers.

    Bizarrely enough, I've seen another map where Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were absorbed by China. They even took the time and effort to include Liechtenstein, as well as correctly placing South Sudan.

    2:44 I took that course last year and had that textbook. I can verify, the borders throughout the entire book were that bad. In fact, I would contest that that wasn't even the worst one in there. There was a map of colonial America that gave the United states all land up to the St. Lawrence as well as Newfoundland and Greenland.

    That first map looks (from the typeface) a lot like something from the UK Mirror or Express papers. Haven't seen a copy of either in so long that I can't pin it down, though.
