Grading and spreading rock EP7
In this video I am grading an old dirt road. The job includes spreading about 240 tons of aggregate base and compaction with a padfoot roller and double drum vibratory roller. During the grading of the road, I focus on creating an out-slope as well as adding two rolling dips or water bars to help shed water off the roads surface. This road is not designed to be a residential access road servicing a house but will be used for land access and as a fire escape if needed. Prior to starting work I spend some time locating underground utilities which I find to be quite shallow. The equipment used on this job is a Kubota SVL97-2, a John Deere 650K dozer, a 48" padfoot, a 36" vibratory roller and a water trailer. Mino tree work and brush clearing was also performed.
The average thickness of the aggregate base was 6". The out-slope average was 6.5%
I played two of my dad's songs. "Keys" was recorded in Nashville in 2003 and "No Substitute" was written in 1974 and the recording date is unknown.
I am currently working with my dad to try and make his music available for anyone who is interested. Details on that coming soon.

You got that right!
I love that kind of job. That was the work that I had to do in my country when my father had the construction company and I felt so good working by myself and smelling the dirt and the reward to finish something in that kind of place so peaceful

This type of work is very rewarding, the tractors make it easy and being outdoors in the dirt is where I was meant to be. Thanks for watching.

Easily half of my joy in making these videos is being able to share my dad's music. Comfort food is similar to comfort music. I grew up listening to my dad's music and when I hear a song it takes me back in time. I'm his biggest fan.
I would love to have your toys to play with, you are blessed . You have given such good advise. I feel stuck with my job, you are doing exactly what I want to do for a living

Nice build! For us novices, what is the correct description of the rock you used for the base? Is it QP?

How do find time to run your business and provide estimates order the materials pay the bills and do the installation at the same time ?

I try and get about 6 hours minimum of sleep every night and the rest of the time I work. I have an amazing family support team as well. I would not say it is easy because it is not. In fact, sometimes It is very difficult to maintain. The hardest part about my job is scheduling. Sometimes I end up being in situations where I am needed in three different parts of the county at the same time. I dislike that feeling and I have to remind myself that "this too shall pass". Good question and thanks for watching.
Just on viewing your technique,Wouldn't it be more practical to spread the gravel with the trucks at first then get it finely spread finish with skid steer.. ? Just observation from a lot of other Workman techniques and strategies.

It’s abit dangerous those trucks driving up or down that road wih the loaded bin in the air especially with trees and humps in the road ect, it’s safer to push it with the skid steer or dozer. Eliminates a multitude of things that can easily go wrong for no reason, a good open space on a flat road yes it would be ideal to spread with trucks 👍🏽

Good question. Based on my math calculations, I needed to dump and spread each load of rock over a 28 foot section of road. This is my technique to ensure that the budgeted amount of rock for the project would be evenly distributed and result in a more consistent base thickness. I made a paint mark every 28' and did my best to keep that volume of rock in that section. Also, the slope of the road was a bit sketchy and there were overhanging tree limbs that would have snagged the dump beds.
How do i listen to these songs
