Gradients // Playing a Yaeltex custom MIDI controller
Музыка
Played this track using a beautifully handcrafted MIDI controller custom-made by the lovely people at @Yaeltex (Buenos Aires). I named it after my favorite record from Radiohead and tried to turn it into a playable multi-instrument using a script and a couple of Max4Live patches. This is how it turned out!

Oh no. I just discovered a new expensive thing i like.
I've recently discovered Yaeltex and I'm in love with their controllers. Beautiful jam by the way!

hej thanks for reaching out! unfortunately i don't have the time to explain this in more detail (family duties). i could easily share the patches but they don't make much sense on their own, there's quite some stuff to setup i'm afraid...
Dude. Can you upload a tutorial how si you map ableton whit yaeltex please?
Man I love your videos. Could you please let me know where these drum samples are from? Thanks :)

Thanks again, the electronic drum sounds are coming from Rob Papen Punch while the acoustic ones are from Superior Drummer... I think I took the Vintage drums kits there. Hope that helps. Cheers!
Beautiful performance as always. Are the pads pressure sensitive? (Were you using aftertouch?)

Hej thanks! These pads not being pressure sensitive was actually the biggest challenge here. This is why I’ve mapped the velocity of ride, snare and rhodes to some of the upper knobs in order to achieve some dynamic variation on the recorded MIDI parts. AFAIK there is no controller out there with small (!) velocity-sensitive pads, I hope this will change some time in the future, though.

@@surkidmusic The Linnstrument is the only controller I can think of with small-ish pads that are velocity sensitive. The form factor of your custom controller seems perfect! And you make amazing music!
How do you program it? Can you program it without a computer using it only with hardware synths? Beautiful track btw!

Hej thanks! And no, this strongly relies on the script engine of Ableton Live so what you see in the video wouldn’t work standalone.

@@surkidmusic thank you for quick replay. Nevertheless cool concept of designing your own controller. Would be a blast if it would work with hardware synths. Ow well faderfox will have to do for now.
i am into make my own but i want someone to develop for me a script for a step sequencer and some other things
What are you using inside of ableton to achieve this? I recently made a yaeltex controller and I love the way yours is mapped

Hey hey, I have five banks configured with Kilowhat and for the first bank I use a Max4Live script with a "red box" (session box) so I can launch clips in Live. I created the script using remotify.io's Control Surface Studio - all other banks simply send MIDI notes configured in Kilowhat. However, I'm using a couple of self-made Max4Live devices to send LED feedback with configurable colors to the pads - something I wish was already possible with Kilowatt. I hope this sheds some light.
I see you designed your own max patch for LED feedback. Is this a patch you’d be willing to share / sell? Just received my Yaeltex this week and looking to dig in. Thanks!

hej hej, here’s a link to the max patch i’ve been using. i didn’t share this yet because it’s not self-explanatory. it depends on the CC configuration of your controller and how your project is setup in ableton live. however, if you’re into max you will likely find your way around… tinyurl.com/bdf527ex
very nice. you play those buttons as if they had aftertouch. ?
@surkidmusic
2 жыл бұрын
hehe yes, but that is just because i'm used to aftertouch coming from Novation's launchpad. in fact, they're not velocity sensitive which is why i've mapped the velocity of ride, snare and rhodes to the knobs on top.

@@surkidmusic yeah, you get used to playing a certain way, don't you? you're getting a great sound, though, anyway. i just got a yaeltex controller and never thought to use those digitals as a keyboard. good stuff, man!
Are the endless encoders push bottom as well?

I can see frantic knob turning but I can't hear any relevant change. The music goes seamlessly from uninspired to boring and back. ;-)

This is because I’m always afraid of relevant changes.

@@surkidmusic Then what are the many knobs for? A single switch would do. You don't even have to wire it to anything.
