Gradall - Digging for Profits 2

Музыка

Copied from VHS that was copied from the original 16mm film.
Late 60's-early 70's Warner @ Swasey / Gradall promo film, featuring the obviously new G-660 model.
Soundtrack is absolutely incredible. Featuring music by Stephen Chapin and Bob Donovan, among nameless others.

We had Gradalls here in Australia I remember one particular machine back in the 80s owned and operated by the then government owned Railways it was a model G660 truck mount What impressed me about the machine was the rotating arm the dual control feature and how stable it was whilst working without any outriggers . It’s the only one I ever saw and have not seen any since a great machine.

My Dad would buy these from the state of Alabama in the 60s and 70s. They had Gas Minneapolis Moline gas engines. i spent plenty of time running one. In the 80s we got a twin engine 880. It would move some dirt. Then in about 2010 I bought a G3WD. All great machines. week before last I was traveling out of Chicago on I-90, a contractor there had one every few miles, maybe 10 of them. It was good to see that many in private use.

I can remember these machines working in Wellington , New Zealand in the 1960s - 1970s. They were used by the city council for road works and trenching etc. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Matamata New Zealand

Impressive machine. I remember seeing them in the 70’s. You don’t see them any more. Maybe rotting in a field but not much would be left I imagine.

I ran a kohring bantam and gradall xl 1500 for ten plus years for state of ky, very versatile from cutting a perfect precise slope or ditch to tearing crossdrain culverts under pavement to loading huge rock and teatig out trees, wush i could gind someone needing a gradall operator. Was considered one of the best. I went to a dozer when the state played out, can run most anything, but loved a gradall and dozer best

Replaced by rubber tired excavators with wrist buckets or tiltrotators for a lot of the applications they’re best at. For the deep excavation that they’re showing large track hoes are so much more powerful that they just aren’t used for that anymore. Where I’m located I only ever see them maintaining ditches now or occasionally doing surface work (sidewalk/curb/gutter removals and grading for reinstatement.

DPW’s and the railroad love them, they’re not to popular amongst most contractors these days.

What is the trade-off? Low truck loading height? Seems like Case Extend-A-Hoe combines backhoe and this.

Interesting machine, never seen one before. I guess the sliding mechanism would suffer from high wear.

Check the end of the boom; there's a set of ball-bearing rollers on the outer boom, and another set on the back end of the inner/sliding boom, allowing it to ride smoothly.
