This reminded me of that scene in Friends, when Chandler and Rachel cut the cake in half and each one took a half. Rachel started saying that she's not gonna share her half and they made a deal or smthn. Then her cake just fell on the ground and Chandler refused to share his cake. So she dropped his plate. This was frustrating to watch cause she dropped so many cakes 😩 but since everyone has different interpretations, this is mine. To me, I think the cake symbolizes her heart. It fell many times and broke to pieces. And each time she refused to give up on the relationship, so she bakes a new one. That’s like her mending her own heart. Eventually it got to the end where she doesn’t have much left, so she gave it her all hoping it would work. It did, but the cake is much smaller now. Because her heart has been through so much, it’s no longer the same.

For me, the cakes falling mean all the mistakes committed in the relationship, and how she kept coming back and giving her best. And in the end, when the pavement was filled with all the past cakes, she was more careful, so she won't trip with the other cakes, and could make it out of there.

This is how i feel with all the relationships, friendships and otherwise, ive had in my life. Giving so much each time, wondering what i did wrong to mess it all up when they ended. Eventually learning to “let it happen” was the best option. Just letting relationships happen, giving what i can in the present moment, but not too much at once to where theres a huge loss each time that meant nothing. Making sure to take care and make every moment quality over quantity. That’s what i got out of the song personally

In my mind, the cakes represents her giving the best pieces of herself to someone, just trying to please them but eventually she runs out these perfect things about herself (the ingredients) because she thinks she keeps messing up everything she's giving to this person where in reality, it's the person (her tripping over the steps) that's messing it up. But she only sees it as her making a mistake so she keeps trying and eventually she gives up and just gives the person all she has left, hoping it'll be enough for them.

To me, the cake keeps falling over and over again because it’s too much, too soon. It’s like when you’re trying to win someone back or earn their trust again after hurting them, but it keeps failing because it’s too much for them too soon and it’s too overwhelming. It only works with the smaller cake because sometimes trust is earned again little by little.
