The nostalgia and smooth quality of the vocals in this song are so epic! It is the the kind of song that interrupts daily life by nudging you to take a deep breath and be thankful you are alive another day to breath air in your lungs. The line "trying to be young is what is making us grow old" speaks of people trying to hold onto their youth when letting go is the best way to do it. Since I am a christian my belief that the best way to do this is by trusting God.

Listening, I am back in the early 70’s... Echo’s of John Lennon & Paul McCartney while they reached my soul with their music. Now a 13 year girl is doing the same thing... Very strange, but her dad does say “she has an old soul.”... I am glad she is just st the beginning of it all. All the best Grace.

I always roll my eyes when judges say things like "you're the best thing I've ever heard" and "you're a star!". If I had a dollar for every time one of the judges said something like that... In Grace's case, Howie predicted she'd be Bigger than Taylor Swift and called her a Living Miracle. I thought Grace's audition was incredible, but maybe they were yet again being insincere. But this time they really knew what they were talking about, and they meant every word of praise and prediction they said. And, by gosh, Grace is proving them correct. Cool.

I still cannot believe this....Ive never "fangirled" over anyone in my life....but literally every song since Audition has just been....I dont know...I dont have the words...Im a 40 yr old man and she doesn't even sing the type of music I'd general listen to yet,I find myself watching vid after vid on repeat...every time i hear a new song its my new favorite be it a cover or an original.....and now the new album with bonus tracks...i think every new song is the best til I hear the next one....how do you choose a favorite? I sit back in amazement as i listen....she makes me feel something I can't put words to...I get tears when I listen to her...and I've never n my life done that for any artist, including Adele.so Of someone can shed some light on the Grace tears issue....that'd be great...lol

First time I showed my brother he wept. He showed his wife who is made of stone and she didn’t get it. So think only really truly soulful people are open to Grace. I said it once I’ll say it again she speaks to the Inner God in all of us. That’s why we get emotional. We long for something more than we live and she is taking us by the hand and bringing us there. She may not know what or how she is doing what she is doing but we are put here for a reason as Grace says fate. This is her destiny to touch our hearts and minds with some angelic harmonies and a voice from the past, present, and future. I’m past the halfway point of my life. I’ve listened music from all genres and this music has got me wrapped up. I’m all in till the end. Never cared much about being a mega fan of anything except Derek Jeter and Martin Broderick. I thought I was blessed to be able to watch something like that kind of greatness in my lifetime. But now I’m enthralled by a13 year hippie chick who can rock a ukulele or a tambourine or even a guitar. Just crazy!!!

Lungs* Grace VanderWaal Produced by Greg Wells Album Just the Beginning 1 2 Lungs* Lyrics [Verse 1] Dancing flames into this glass castle And underground wax world Rushing water at the park Takes you to a different world [Chorus] And the air was filling my lungs Autumn was filling your lungs We're just trying to be young But little do we know that trying to be young Is what is making us grow old The air was filling my lungs Autumn was filling your lungs We're just trying to stay young But little do we know that trying to stay young Is what is making us grow old [Post-Chorus] That's what That's what is making us grow old [Verse 2] A patter of rain pattering on my window Makes me smile and feel refreshed But then I'm walking down the street In the middle of the night Singing these lyrics to me Kind of starts messing with my head [Chorus] And the air was filling my lungs Autumn was filling your lungs We're just trying to be young But little do we know that trying to be young Is what is making us grow old Air was filling my lungs Autumn was filling your lungs We're just trying to stay young But little do we know that trying to stay young Is what is making us grow [Bridge] Listen to the breath of my voice Just close your eyes and just go oh-oh-oh Let's just live life as we are 'Cause we only have limited ti-i-ime [Chorus] The air was filling my lungs Autumn was filling your lungs We're just trying to be young But little do we know that trying to be young Is what is making us grow old [Outro] I just wanna let go Ooh, ooh

"Just The Beginning " is, in my opinion, the best first album ever by any artist in any genre at any time in history. There is not one wrong song, including the two bonus songs on the Target release ("Lungs" and "Hope For Change") and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on the Japan release. Throwing in her "Perfectly Imperfect" DA, which did come first, makes it just simply incomparable to anything or anyone else's first attempts.

This generation is so used to listening to auto tune and generic songs being played on the radio, that they have no respect for unique and individual voices. I feel sorry for those born in 2009 and on. For those growing up not able to appreciate raw talent. I'm sure that when Bjork was introduced to the music industry, she was praised and respected for her unique vocals. Elliott Smith's vocals were raw and powerful...just him and the guitar. Joan Jett. Janis Joplin. Grace was truly born into the wrong generation. She doesn't receive the respect she deserves. She composes music, writes lyrics, speaks wisdom far beyond her years. Her song Lungs absolutely blew me away, as did her Billboard acceptance speech. She's eloquent and intelligent and knows the true meaning of work ethic, being humble, and staying true to yourself and others. I know she recently received hate for her constructive comment about Jacob Sartorius, but she's truly passionate about music and her fans, and just wanted to remind him of his humble beginnings and that although he thinks he works hard, he doesn't work nearly as hard as the artists that have come before them. Again, far too intelligent for a 13 year old girl. Grace Vanderwaal is truly a pop prodigy, and she's a true breath of fresh air to the industry. You know you're doing exceedingly well when your music is being featured in commericals and television shows, and when you've won a Billboard award, topped charts, performed at 2016's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, performed with and got approval from Cyndi Lauper, produced your own EP and debut album, et cetera. Say what you want, but this girl is going places....and quickly. Just think...it's only been a year. One year!

I feel awkward talking to people about her...because I've tried explaining her to people and they are like yeah she is good.....but it's better than that...and why can't they see it? She just straight gets me to the core and I'm like...I almost feel like a creeper watching her vids over n over....but her so Gs aren't complete for me u less I see her sing them n a live vid....with the exception of the bonus tracks and DKCM ...which I can only assume would be the most tear inducing live performance......Ever...imagine an entire venue crying but happy...lol. I believe if she ever sings this live...it will not be a sing along...the crowd will be too busy sniffling and wiping tears...lol

I know the feeling. Preach! People that actually have a soul are truly touched by Grace’s music. Others I think can’t because their souls are beyond redemption. She is here to heal our broken hearts and minds. My wretched sister in law doesn’t get it. My brother sobbed like a baby. But his stone wife totally shut him down and now he rejects Grace because he is afraid of feeling like a freak. Sad really. It’s his loss. I’ve been listening to music for over 40 years. She is the only artist to make me cry like baby on several occasions. Best artist ever!!!

Being compared to Sara Bareilles at this stage in her career is something. Grace appears to have a bit of every one. In the beginning people were trolling her about copying people but that's not the case, they didn't see how versatile she is. She's an enigma, she 's all of them in one. She isn't going to hit the high notes Mariah can but she can do a little Mariah when she wants without knowing it

Ernst Müllner The songwriter credit has Grace Vanderwaal and Greg Wells (producer). It is very typical for the producer to be listed as they often make a contribution. It is very important to give credit to any person who helped with writing the song. Many artist have been sued in the past for not giving credit. Grace's name appears first on all the songs except for 2 songs in which she is the sole songwriter.

  • @edreyes5500

Music today is very competitive as everyone is try to get a hit #1 song, because that's is were the money is. Taylor Swift uses multiple songwriters usually up to 5 per song. One of the most famous songwriters for Taylor is Max Martin who lives in Sweden. Alessia Cara usually has three to four songwriters including herself. The problem with having too many songwriters is that you have to split the profits. If Grace continues to write her own songs, she makes all the money even if the producer made a contribution. Producers are prepaid, they don't earn royalties off the song.

ed, Anthony, Greg Wells tweet that he 'tried to stay out the way as much as possible' has already become a winged word in some of the threads and on FB (with screenshots of the tweet) as you may know anyway. The credit situation seems pretty clear since other contributors also stated they only offered help but did not influence the creative process.

I can't believe that I just discovered this song NOW. I mean, I thought I know all of her songs...that I even memorized some. But this is the first time I heard "Lungs", and as usual, another masterpiece from my beloved Grace!! Aside from her unique voice, what I also love about her is how she transcends emotions, memories, and life realizations into her lyrics. Sometimes, I tend to forget her age because her music makes me feel like she has lived more than I have. My dilemma is that whenever I hear a new song of her I can't dislike it!! Haha

It would make some sense to put lungs and a better life on separate albums. They have some strong similarities. Maybe we can look forward then to seeing lungs on a future album? IMHO, lungs deserves an official video and promotion as a single. Any album upon which it appears is instantly a chart topper. Why we don't hear this song more is a mystery to me. Careers have been built around lesser works.
