No matter what anyone says about grace kelly .the fact is she was one of the worlds most beautiful women..and a very good actor....i think she made a big mistake marrying prince Rainier...she became royal by marrying him, no grace was already a queen in the eyes of the world.....

Sad story. She lived with dignity in spite of the poor treatment by a spoiled rotten prince.

Women in that generation had different understandings about the roles between a husband and wife. I guess I saw in following the British Royal Family a monarch who was raised to believe that he was someone who was above everyone in the world and starting with his wife the Monarchy and the pressure to protect it at all costs is more important that the personal hopes and dreams of the individual member of Royal households. It is only later generations that find women have individual goals, dreams, ambitions. But if Grace Kelly and other women of that generation ignite and remind us all that women have much to offer. They started the pressure of the First wave of feminism that many of us benefited from. Grace Kelly’s children as adults seem to hold very different values and beliefs about what the role of women means that is all it should be.

Her father may have prepared her more than she realized. He was controlling like the prince. What the story left out was that she had thoughts of divorcing the prince. Also, what is interesting is that once Albert's wife prepared to marry him she tried to leave town 3 times. Maybe a case of like father like son.

She would have been happier and free had she not married and married into royalty which restricted her freedom and would have imprisoned her and caused her stress. Acting was the love of her life which she had to give up and engage in royal duties. Looks like the royal family profited from her wealth.

@@glen7318 both husbands have had cheated on them, both died in a car accident. Even though Grace Kelly want from the upper class, she was Hollywood royalty. Diana was related to royal and her bloodline is older then the current monarchy. I believe her ancestors were De spencers way back in the 1100's until they changed it later on. Both have found adjusting to royal life hard, and they were restricted in what they could have done in their free time. I don't mean Grace Kelly's royal life 100% the same as Princess Diana royal life and vice versa. There were similarities to their royal lives in their own prospestive ways. Grace Kelly saw Princess Diana was struggling with royal life and had tried to help her to adjust when Princess Diana came on to the scene.

The Royals don't always have it good. There is a downside to being royal or marrying into the Royal family! everybody has some struggles no matter it we are a commoner or royal. Princess grace was a wonderful actress and grew into a beautiful princess. We should not be surprised she had some struggles too.

Having just come from Lindy Chamberlian's trail in Darwin, we found ourselves stopping over in Kathrine, which is in the outback of Australia, when I heard the news of her passing.

She was totally mislead as to what her life would be like. As soon as the prince expected 2 million dollars in order for her to marry him that should have told everyone what it was going to be like.

I believe that as a European man, Prince Ranier was dictatorial in his family life, including with his wife. I doubt that she honestly would have called it a happy marriage. How they could have Wed without a prior understanding on such things as her acting career, is impossible to understand. And the fact that her philanderer son, Prince Albert, is unwilling to fill in the blanks of his parents’ lives together, is a further hint that there were some tough times for Grace!

Be careful of who you marry.

Grace Kelly was raised to believe as a Christian wife her husband had certain roles and responsibilities and likewise her roles as a Catholic, upper class wife were established. That generation raised sons and daughters who realized how dysfunctional this pattern is. New roles were envisioned for the WW2 generation of women after the war ended. When Grace Kelly’s children talk it is easy to see her influence and the shift in the culture at large.

There is a flash of Tippi Hedren. Not Grace. She could have had anyone. Why she chose to be with the Prince is a mystery. They did not seem well matched. Good video.

Two million dollar "dowery" to Prince Rainier? Doweries, by tradion, are paid by the brides family to the groom. The bride was not expected to provide the dowery herself. In addition, she was permitted to bring with her a "chest" filled with dresses and valuables.And she had a right to make use of her dowery to pay her own living expenses and puchases. Although it legally belonged to her husband, tradition reuired that he allow his wife free access to these funds. Did Prince Rainier respect this tradition?

Yep, nope. Shouldn't have married him. First, it's a political power imbalance. Second, he chose her and proposed after 3 days. Red flags of desperation and control. Then the 2M dowry, showing he intends to appropriate her wealth. Stopping her career is ending her freedom and individual fame and power. She rendered herself a prisoner.

Grace Kelly was a head strong & rebellious daughter just wanting to act out against her parents....it back fired & she found herself in a bad marriage!

No, her teenage daughter drove. She was legally too young to drive, but likely wanted to practice, and it went wrong. I believe the guilt over her accident caused Stephanie more trouble, she acted out, tried drugs and 4 years later tried to be a popstar. Not kidding, she can't sing, no talent, but the pure fact of a singing royal brought her a short singing career in 1986.

I still can’t believe she won the Oscar over Judy Garland.
