When you talked about measuring carefully before cutting, it reminded me of a friend who used to say, ‘I cut it twice and it’s still too short.’

Just built my first Blanket Ladder. I did not realize the importance of a speed square until after I finished my creation without one 🤣 Will definitely be picking one up today
Just a tip from my hubby...Stapple a piece of sandpaper to a piece of wood (he stapples it right to his workbench table) then when you have small pieces it is easy to rub the small piece right on the attached sandpaper. Hope it helps!

Great idea! I’ll have to try that, tell him thanks!

I do that too, except I use wood glue so I don’t have to worry about hitting the staples, which I did every.single.time before switching to gluing it down, lol!! ☺️
I got tired of trying to find someone at the lumber yard to make my car-sized cuts so I picked up an inexpensive saber saw at Harbor Freight. It lives in my trunk (don't forget to check the charge occasionally!) so I can make cuts in the parking lot. I even cut down a changing table in front of the local antique mall (spindle jackpot!) to manageable-sized pieces!
Here’s a little addition to the many very useful tips you give in this video: When you talked about the miter box it reminded me of this: Quite often these miter boxes are on sale and they are really affordable, so many people have a set of this box + saw lying around at home. But often times they are not used frequently and what happens then, due to oxidation OR simply bc the saw is just thrown in a toolbox without any protection on it, is that the saw becomes very DULL. And a lot of people don’t realize this, bc they reckon they haven’t used it that much, so it should be still sharp…. With all sort of unwanted consequences, such as not only making the job much harder than it should, but also: damaging the wood and let’s not forget: bc you must apply much more force now that the saw is dull, the risk of slipping becomes also bigger and thus so does the risk of injuring yourself…. So ALWAYS be aware of your tools and don’t assume without checking! ❤
My son is almost 9 1/2 and I STILL sing “You are my SONshine” to him! That is an AMAZING idea, I’ve been thinking of a non baby way to incorporate it into a decor piece! 😊😊

I save my scraps too. I used the small pieces I used for Christmas ornaments. Some I made snowmen, the grinch, little presents etc. They turned out so cute and were fast and easy.

When you do your blanket ladder, cut a piece of wood you want to be the width between your rungs, and then you have a spacer so they are all equal and no measuring required. So fast and easy. My dad taught me that.
@Artsygoons

Also, my dad always says to stain first and then you don’t have to worry about getting into all the corners and joints.

For people who don't want to buy a stud finder for a one off job a neodymium magnet is good too. It'll locate the screws in the drywall just run the magnet down from the first screw it sticks to to make sure it is a stud there

Great ideas for using the 1 x2s that were given to me 3 years ago and was not certain what to make with them, but could not turn down free clean wood. A towel holder will be useful.
I made picture ledges ( no...my husband made picture ledges LOL) staggered in our living room and stacked in our hallway. I just love to see my loved ones when I am in my home!!!!I may use your frame tip and make all matching frames. I just did all black. I also want to say thank you for doing more wood projects. We prefer actual wood over the press board from Dollar Tree. I've loved watching you grow over the years in your carpentry skills! Thanks Whitney.

Yes! The lumber is WAY better than the DT stuff for sure! It’s been an adventure for sure! I recently heard myself in a 2018 video say “I’m a little intimidated by the saw, maybe one day I won’t have to ask Alex for help” and WOAH! Talk about a 180 for me! :)
Another great video full of many projects!!

You are so welcome, Diane!! I'm super happy to read this!!! Happy crafting :)
Love it all- love working with wood and you always give me great ideas, thanks!! Also, I saw this trick that I absolutely love and have used on wood risers I made. Brush on a design with polyurethane on bare wood (using cricut stencil or free hand) let dry and then stain over it! The stain won’t attach to polyurethane and the design almost looks carved into the wood!! Sooo beautiful.

What?!? That sounds AWESOME, I’ll have to try it for sure!
Tech tip for hanging anything straight and getting the screws in the wall to line up with the piece - put a piece of painter's tape on the back of your piece and poke holes where the holes are - carefully remove the tape and put it in the wall - more you know exactly where to put the screws and you can level using the tape etc. I love this trick - I even installed a complete wall of shelves in my kitchen using this method! Great projects as usual! Blessings!!
