I am from Texas, and I have been blessed to grow up on the East Coast for part of my childhood and that was one of the most beautiful memories I had was being able to ride an elevator is operated by elevator operators. They would be dressed so grandly in their suits/uniforms and hats. They dressed in suits like ship captains, or pilots. Very grand indeed!
A shame the elevator was replaced, the building is on the historic registry, manually operated Otis elevator ought to have been preserved. Yes, it was built like a tank and to last.
Very much akin to what happened to hair metal musicians in 1991, which happened to Elevator operators in the 1950s-1970s and has happened to her nowadays. The what automated elevators is to elevator operator are after all, what grunge is to hair metal musicians.
