GPS Search for surveying with a Trimble Robotic Total Station

Ғылым және технология

In this latest Tailgate Series video we show how effective GPS search can be when performing a robotic total station survey. We also show how to properly compute your position with the TSC7.

Hi. Does TSC3 have this GPS search function? Tried to find it today with no success.

Hello, yes it does. However you need to turn the GPS on first. Select the Windows icon on the top left corner of your keypad, then scroll down until you find Satviewer. Tap that icon then select the GPS tab and select the Connect to GPS. It could take a few minutes, but as long as you are outside, you should see Lat and Long coordinates appear on the top of this screen. Once you see those you can select the Trimble logo on the top of the directional keys to get back into Access and General Survey. Then you should see the same satellite on the map screen and give you the same GPS search functionality. I used it quite a bit on the TSC3 before the Yuma 2 Tablet came out. I even used the feature back on the old TSC2 controller with the GPS card inserted. I hope this helps.

@@westonschneider3544 Thanks. I got where to activate it. There is no target control menu, or I cant find it. Usually I use integrated survey so Trimble GPS could be good as well. But cant find that target control menu in my TSC3.

@@vyacheslavkostromin Hello, Once you have it turned on in Windows Mobile you also need to check it on in Access. When connected to the S Series instrument, select The Instrument icon in General Survey, then select Target Controls, go to page 2 and check "On" the GPS Search. The Select Data Source will be Auxillary GPS. I only use the 3D option when doing Integrated which I cover in a different video. You can then select Accept to give it a try. If you are running in an assumed coordinate system you may need to go back in that menu and select the GPS softkey on the bottom to reset your satellite tracking / resection to get an accurate result. This process is similar to the one in the video. I hope this helps.

Hi Laxmi, as long as you already own the S Series Trimble robotic system with controller, there is no additional cost. Thank you!

Why are you on "standard" and not on "tracking"

Hello. Thank you for your question. I always recommend that customers use the standard mode for establishing their control (backsight or resection). The default in the S series survey style is to average 5 measurements before storing the point with standard. Then if I am doing a simple topo, I will switch to tracking mode to save some time. But will switch back if I am checking into control later in the day. I hope this helps.
