More than 20 years later and Codemasters still don't come close to this level of realism and immersion.

These are not mistakes.. these are the big things of this game. AI crashing each other was possible

Who needs a crane when you have GP4 marshalls?

It's crazy that modern games can't replicate this quality of incident. In the current F1 games it's clearly rng if they just floor the throttle out of the corner. These GP4 races were always so much more natural

100% , on the other hand , incidents are nowadays are much more rares , specially technical faults with cars , so may be that would be one ( amongst otrhers) reason we do not find them reflected in modern sims?

WTF? they had track workers? why do old games have stuff todays games fail to have as basics?????

GP4 had the best randomness of all F1 games, new games are very predictable.

I agree ... but may be the current f1 is also much more predictable. We almost have no technical issue with cars. And that's the exact reason why point rewarding position were the top 6 in 2001 and after extended to top 8 and top 10. Now they discussing the extension to top 12. Extending the points rewarding position may be does not change anything big time on top but allow a way to establish a classification on the bottom half. Imagine for a second that only the 1st , 2nd.............. and 6 th place were paid points. I bet that at the of the season we would have 3-4 may be 5 teams with 0 points and they can not be classified and separated as 6th , 7th , 8th , 9th etc.

I loved the ai on this game, seeing an incident I'd always pause and re-wind amazed at what happened.

I do miss this game, man! I used to watch races in the spectator mode almost as many times as I actually took part in races! Good times... Simpler times! 😂

@@gp4corner440 True but from what I understand isn't GP4 hard to run/set up on modern PCs? Hell I only have a laptop so I don't know if that complicates things further! 😂 But if there's a way to play GP4 and also GP3 on modern PCs/Laptops then I'm all ears because I would LOVE to play those games again if possible!

You mean Nicholas Latifi? His first Formula One race was in Austria 2020. GP4 replicated 2001 season. At this time BAR drivers were Olivier Panis and Jacques Villeneuve.

ah yes the good times when F1 games had fire mechanics and when having this massive of problems you try to pit the car instead of automatic retire. from time to time i still redownload this gem.

Miss this series so much. Formula 1 games are so mediocre now. It blows my mind that people settle for yearly trash that covers one season when we are at a point in gaming where the baseline should be a multi-season career that covers several generations of cars. We should have a F1 game covering at least a decade if not 2 with the player having a long standing career. We get classic cars, but no full on classic seasons. It is such a waste. Give me a F1 game that goes back to 1984 and spans all the way up to 2024. The closest we can get to that is Assetto Corsa.

I agree with you that a racing game, especially F1, should stop doing yearly one season release. But a game that spans 40 years is too much to be completely well made. They can't do 1 year right (see the Spa track) EA will never do what I'm about to write, but what they should for 2025 is, instead of a one season game, make it a period game, that goes from 2022 to 2025. F1 introduced a new car design rule in 2022 with the ground effect. So, the physics and the models of the cars from 22 to 25 is roughly the same. In this game, as a player, you will have different modes, like : - drive as a real driver starting from 2022 to 2025 following the actual season schedules, with results that are similar to what happened in reality. Beyond 2025, you can setup the game how you want for the tracks and rules to keep on playing. - My Team mode, where you start as a new bad team in 2022. - A better career mode, where you start in F2 in 2021 and depending on your results, start in F1 in 2022, and make the career more plausible than what we got until now. - just play one season you want. Or multi-seasons with custom schedules, rules, drivers... - Challenges : achieve memorable performances like they happened during this period : for example in 2022, as Max win from 14th in Spa. Beat the pole lap in Saudi of Perez. Score Mick's first points in Silverstone... And as I hate the DLCs and all the microtransactions things, if you succeed those challenges, you unlock stuff like drivers helmets, car special liveries and tracks (alternate or shorter layouts) or track that don't normally appear in the real schedules. Like Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Sochi, Vietnam, Mugello... Or even tracks that haven't been used in years : Buddh, Jerez, Istanbul You call this game something like, F1 Era : Modern Venturi And what's great about this concept is that you can build other games for other past periods of F1 history. V6 Hybrid Part 2 : The Mercedes Dynasty (2017-2021) V6 Hybrid Part 1 : The Silver War (2014-2016) Prost vs Senna (1988-1991) Williams vs Benetton (1992-1997)

What I find strange here is the AI in all the games after this are no better and is some cases a lot worse. How does that work.

honestly im amazed! for a game this old to have fairly lifelike contact physics i think is awesome! why cant the new f1 games have systems like this!

Beautiful sim. That's how it should be! Must say I only raced it for a few months or so. I.e. with few mods. Myself using far more time at LFRS Grand Prix 2 league as well as FFB Wheel racing Grand Prix 3. Was about to get further into Grand Prix 4, but then F1 Challenge 99-02 with the ISI engine appeared and instantly with tons of mods and I was sold. Think I'll give Grand Prix 4 time here 22 years later, now in flexible NLR F-GT Lite simring with T300RS-GT and self-made adds. I got luck getting Grand Prix 2 up to present under Cov-19, so GP4 why not, eyh? ☺♥

It’s running on Windows 10. Install it from disc or ISO. Then update it to the latest version. It’s very important to put the No-CD.exe into main directory. At least install GPxPatch and start it from there.
