Government Explained

Фильм және анимация

An inquisitive alien visits the planet to check on our progress as a species, and gets into a conversation with the first person he meets. The alien discovers that we live under the rule of a thing called "government", and wants to understand more about what "government" is, what it does, and why it exists.
Produced and voiced by Graham Wright, based on a talk by Larken Rose at the Free Your Mind Conference 2011 (source video has since been deleted)

    @ISOHaven so you are completely wrong. They never said one guy is in charge for one. And they escalate. If you don't pay your taxes and then don't pay the fines. What do you think will happen to you? You get... That's right, violence imposed on you. Going to school will only net me the education equivalent to what you said, which on its face was already wrong from go. I want to see real arguments so I can actually become smarter. But also so others can be too, but I've learned nothing by conversing with you.

    I believe Anarchy is derived from the Greek term meaning ‘without rulers’. I can conceive of systems that do not have rulers so In this sense at least it can make sense.

  • @srobart
    @srobart10 жыл бұрын

    The crux of the argument is this... An anarchist is perfectly happy to allow a statist to sign a contract with a group of individuals he calls "government", who steals 50% of his income, makes arbitrary rules he must follow, forces him to buy things he may not need/want, sends him to fight and die in wars that make no difference to him AND force him to pay for these wars and put him in a cage if he's caught with a certain plant in his pocket (among other things). All the anarchist asks is for the same respect, to NOT be forced into that same contract with those people who call themselves "government". The anarchist is more than willing to let the statist do with his life as he wishes, but the statist will not afford the anarchist that same courtesy. It's just that simple.

Is there an end to this madness? I think the way it can end is that people stop electing career politicians that are senators, or secretary's of state that are either criminals or are corrupt. There should be a requirement that if a person is elected to office, once their term is up, they should leave, and not seek election for a different office. Oh wait, there is, it is called the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Bill of Rights Amendment 17 where a senator can only serve 6 YEARS max, not a lifetime.

As the video points out, it makes no sense - to be worried about monsters so you deliberately create the very monster you fear to fight these potential other monsters. It's the classing thing of a self-fulling prophecy. People have created the very problem they hoped to solve.

    Smart, caring, wise people who work "for the people" TRY to get elected, but don't get the backing of big corporations or lobbies and therefore will never win elections, as we discovered that to get to a certain level of electability, you must have insane amounts of money. Smart, caring, wise people feel bad about having hard working citizens waste their money on that kind of thing.

    I have a solution to all of this. Let me just tell you about it and a little about myself. My childhood dream was to be an oceanographer. I love the water. Mother died when I was 10 and left me to an abusive father. I have had a lifetime of failure. I have had dozens of jobs and have lived in over a dozen different places. I created hell on earth for myself and anyone that cared about me. But just like the seed the knew that it must be hidden in darkness and then must struggle to see the light I found a way to stay alive. And through it all I have learned most lessons the hard way. Now I am 50. I have been through the fire. I now have this experience that tells me to keep moving forward, to never give up, to keep pursuing my dream. If you fall down 7 times, get up 8. My dream has changed greatly over time. My unique experience has allowed me to work through a struggle that mankind has been going through for millenia. My dream is to continue pursuing this evolving conversation that we have been having since the beginning of time. That conversation starts with this question. How do we get along? Answering this question has taken me further then I ever knew I could. Can we live in a system based in equality? We currently live in a system of hierarchy, just like our ancestors, and their ancestors, all the way back to the beginning of our recorded history with almost no exceptions. I believe we are currently creating the conditions that will clear the way for a new paradigm. The old and current paradigm is hierarchy. We have had differing forms of hierarchy for thousands of years now, with almost no exception. Hierarchies have always elevated some people at the expense of others. This is why we struggle so hard to be equal. It seems very unlikely that we will ever achieve equality under any system of hierarchy. In my mind hierarchy is obsolete. It only works for the people at the top while most of us have to pay or be found as a criminal. To make a system obsolete you do not fight to change the system, you create a system that makes the old system obsolete. We are currently involved in setting the stage, for not only a new awareness, but creating the circumstances in which a system of equality will arise that is beyond reproach. It has the potential to completely level the playing field, not just a little bit, it will be a full circle shift from hierarchy. Soon you will know how, with just a simple gesture, we can become truly equal. Equality is a subject I have been wrestling with since I was a child. My life has gone in so many crazy directions. And along the way I would sometimes ask people about equality. It seems that most people believe that we are somehow inherently equal but have a hard time explaining it. I also struggled with the subject for most of my life. It was not until I watched a show on Netflix called DMT the spirit molecule that things really changed for me. That show opened the door to the experience of ayahuasca. To those of you that may not know what ayahuasca is here is a definition from the urban dictionary. Ayahuasca: An extremely potent hallucinogenic substance - legal in Peru - that's derived from jungle vines by curanderos (shaman). It combines two pyschoactive substances (DMT and an MAO inhibitor), the latter compounding the effects of the former. Also known as "yage". The preparation and consumption of ayahuasca has been a tradition in South America for thousands of years. I saw ayahuasca as an opportunity to discover something more about myself. Find out why I struggled so much. I was always looking for answers. About 6 months before I had my first ayahuasca experience I began smoking pot again for the first time in 15 years. It had become legal in my state but I still resisted it until a friend gently reintroduced me to this special herb. It was like blowing back the veil. I was naturally compelled to find out more about who I was. This couldn't be done without finding out about who we ALL are. That was 2 and a half years ago. In my zeal to share and thus release humanity from its bonds I wrote a speech that I proclaimed to all in a large, downtown metropolitan area with little affect. I believe I overestimated the time people actually had set aside in their day to listen to wide eyed dreamers. I then began a series of failed efforts to get this message out. Eventually I learned, there is no such thing as failure, it is all part of the learning process. I've studied more in these last 2 and a half years then I have in my entire life. The message is still basically the same. It is really nothing new, I am just re-imagining a very old and successful idea. It turns out that equality is possibly one of the easiest things that we could imagine. It was something that Graham Hancock demonstrated in one of his video's that triggered a thought process. He said ancient Egyptians were always trying to replicate the heavens down on earth. I realized that was similar to what I was doing. I was trying to make the intangible, tangible. We can not be equal in the physical world. We are all physically unique. Our minds all work different. We all have different physical capabilities, from stamina to strength to speed. We all have different jobs, live in different places, we are simply all unique. Fortunately our unique individuality turns out to be our greatest strength. Which will later become apparent. We truly live in a special time in history. For we have already created a technological system that has the potential to give us unapologetic equality. The system I speak of is continuously opening the doors on our understanding and at the same time brings us closer together. This system has already been spread to about half the people on the world. The system is being spread to the rest of the world relatively cheaply with wireless technology. Of course, I speak of the internet. Since we cannot create equality in the physical world then perhaps we can do it in the virtual world. I believe that equality and freedom are two things that go hand in hand. I don't think you can truly have one without the other. We will never be handed our freedom. History has shown that we have always had to fight for it. Weather it has been violent resistance or non violent resistance through non compliance, we have always struggled for just a little more freedom. In fact freedom is so important to us people are willing to lay down their lives for just a little more freedom. Which is tragically ironic and deeply moving at the same time. This form of freedom is the rarest of them all. It comes with a price tag. If we really want total freedom each one of us is going have to assume total responsibility for our own actions. Have you ever heard the expression, with great freedom comes great responsibility? It certainly applies here. We will no longer have a small group of people making decisions for us. With the act of each individual accepting complete responsibility for their personal actions, we individually and collectively, become sovereign. So, instead of relying on a small group of, so called, "elites" to make decisions that affect our lives, we collectively make these decisions for ourselves. Now really think about this. Right now we consent to allow a handful of people the power to make decisions about war, economy, conservation, education, what rights we have, what taxes we pay, how much the taxes are, the list goes on and on and keeps growing by the day. Who is to say that these people can make better decisions for us than the pool of all existing people on the planet? Now stop and really think about that. No matter what problem we are facing, someone is probably working on it right now. If not, between all of us, we have a vast pool of knowledge and experience to draw from so that we can find solutions. One place where we can all go where we can talk about everything important to human civilization. This is where the internet steps back in. The internet will be our go to place to become educated on important issues. It will also be the place where anyone can go to be heard and to have the final, authoritative say in whatever it is they wish. Every user that logs in is recognized by the system, but appears anonymous to everyone else. This is vitally important if we are ever going to truly realize equality. Additionally anonymity will enhance the power of free speech, then to each person that is of the age of consent that wants it, we give ourselves the power of one vote as a common right. We talk, we argue, we share facts, ideas, we have smart software to help aggregate large information. When all is said and done we have a vote where anyone can have a final say. 2/3rds majority should be the standard. It is enough of us to give our consensus legitimacy. This is what true equality looks like and the internet is the only place where we can have a gathering of human beings without race or country, standing together, not always in agreement, but standing as one race that covers the spectrum of human experience. I believe our fierce individuality shines, in diversity, experience and our willingness to create a better life. I further believe that equality will bring an end to many of the troubles we face just by its virtue alone. We may be looking at a new golden age. With a click we can create a system based in equality where we can all have one voice and one vote, protected by anonymity. Here is the link to a video I made awhile back. vimeo.com/126000527 This is my first video. I believe it is not very good.

    Anonymity is know PROtection as it stems from cowardice and I say stand ure ground and face the music, rather than hide no rich person can buy the silence of what people think of them and certainly not a life !! The internet it like a barcode on the neck of a person it serves more to limit by monitoring than it frees !! The so called other world cuntries can do well better without this limits machine (I know, I know it's ironic or sumn) I read with my advanced class a book called The Giver in the 5th grade at a Montessori school which I had the privilege of life health and safety to attend - and in it traditions were valued and passed on by elders to the emerging youth, oral traditions don't need an anonymous log in as the community knew whom they dealt with and as I said it was not taken lightly !! This precious uniting endernett is alert from being "for porn" detrimental in that it creates screen babies and empty headed people with fake notions of reality !! Sitting down at the dinner table with ones family is pretty much a thing of de past starting with drive this and now everyone is on their dumb phone turning more introverted and antisocial !! Yeah- the real sterilizing effect of this so called gr8 age of connectivity !! I dont know anything about Anything nor do I claim to, but being who I am and having lived my life up to this point, I think the bs internet is just dat, I expect no one to glean anything from this comment and I mean absolutely know flack or friction but I suggest looking into the broader psychosocial I'll effects of this so called convenience as the price of convenience may be pricey !!

    Once upon a time everything in a barter was its own money. Then gold and silver simplified trade and they became the money, since they are considered to have value. Then Governments hijacked the meaning of a currency by creating monopolies of paper money. A lot of people hate money because we were all born in times of paper money, we don't know how it was like when money had some sort of value. The Venus project thing is OK, I guess, as long as it is voluntary: no "law" is made to force people into such system, this is pretty much what communists tried. Property rights (aka capitalism) are important because otherwise you get something called "tragedy of commons".

    schools roads and defense could easily be handled by the free market much more efficiently...just as an example home school children consistently outperform public school children...roll roads are generally better maintained and more efficient to operate...and finally private security companies now patrol neighborhoods in lue of law enforcement agencies with lower crime rates safer neighborhoods and lower cost. So, any other dumb reasons we need government you want to throw out there.

    Your analysis is utter simplistic - Home-school children outperform public school children? this doesn't mean the children attending public schools would have a better overall performance if they were home-schooled. Who sent their kids to public schools? Who home-schooled their children? Are they in the same situation? - Lower crime-rates and lower cost compared to what? to other neighbors? lower cost compared with the police? how they calculated those costs? -Any proof roads are better maintained without government? What about large critical urban infrastructure constructions like bridges, tunnels, subway.

    And if you don`t want to read through the entire blog here is the most important part Part 3. Not only is anarcho-capitalism not applicable to real life, its claims are logically incongruent. For instance: AnCap claim 1:``If we abolished government there would be no need to fear the Mob or warlords would take over. Most people are decent and honest and would organize against it.`` AnCap Claim 2:``Government is just a criminal take-over of society by warlords and bandits similar to the Mob, ruling via oppression over a mostly decent majority population that cannot or will not organize itself and resist it`` See anything wrong with that? For people who consider government to be a disease, they take a very superficial stance when it comes to treating it. They just say ``Get rid of it and all shall be better`` If you look at the map you may notice those damnable government things are literally all over the place. So clearly there must be some deeper reason for their existence, be it good or bad, right? So where did we first start seeing symptoms? Mesopotamia would be ground zero for this epidemic then. What set ancient Mesopotamia apart from the rest of the planet was its wealth. It was one of the first places human beings were able to amass significantly more wealth than they needed to survive.(Because of the fertile land and developed agriculture) This led to two things: Unprecedented population growth and specialization in labor leading to the first divides between rich and poor. If you are familiar with Orwell, this is where things start to get interesting. These ever-larger communities of humans had rising levels of anti social activity (i.e. raping stealing, murder etc)partly due to the fact it was easier to be evil to strangers,(just like big cities today have more crime than small towns) and partly because the farmers suddenly saw themselves as poor compared to the new rich class of merchants and skilled craftsmen. In Orwell`s language, the High had risen above the Low. Now, in order to defend their wealth, the High needed a class of protectors to defend them against the masses. These protectors had to be organized and armed to supplant the fact they were still vastly outnumbered by the Low. In Orwellese, the Middle were born. Now the wealth of the High was secure from the Low, but now the Middle were the threat. In order to preserve their position, the High turned the Middle against the Low creating a state of perpetual subjugation. And throughout time and space the story has been much the same. The world and civilization have been shaped by the conflicting interests of these three groups. The Middle strive perpetually to become the new High, the High strive to remain the High, and the Low, when they have an aim and are not crushed by drudgery and the routine of their daily lives, strive to depose both groups. And have we reduced wealth inequality? Have human communities become smaller and more tightly bound by morality and respect than they were through the thousands of years of human existence? So would it be reasonable to think that states would stay abolished if we destroyed them? If history has taught us anything it is that destroying the state gives us nothing but a far more brutal state.
