Thanks, I wanted to compare with mine as it sounds a bit "grating" and I wondered if it was nornal or if mine had sore throat. Beautiful song. Oh god I hope it's not because both of ours have mites, lol.

Entiendes inglés o francés? Francés : L'habileté au chant est en partie génétique. La plupart des pinsons de Gould mâles chantent, les femelles font de petits cris. Un male qui ne chante pas n'est pas nécessairement malade, mais c'est possible. Les acariens des voies aériennes irritent et obstruent la trachée, faisant perdre le goût de chanter au mâle. À part l'absence de chant, les symptômes sont : la toux, le frottage de bec excessif, des cliquetis à la respiration, respiration la bouche ouverte. Les pinsons de Gould sont très sujets aux mites. C'est facilement traitable avec du SCATT ( Moxidectine ) ou du S76 ( Ivermectine ). Bien suivre les instructions et bien nettoyer la cage pour éliminer les acariens. Traiter tous les oiseaux à la dose approprié au poids. Inglés : Singing abilities are partly genetic, and most male sing. Females usually chirp a bit. A male that dosen't sing isn't necessarily sick, but usually he is. Most common cause is airsac mites. They irritate the throat and block airways, making singing difficult and painful, so the bird stops. Check other symptoms : coughing and sneesing, excessive beak wiping on perch to chase mites, clicking sounds when breathing, tail bobing, open mouth breathing. Gouldians are very vulnerable to airsac mites. Easily treatable with SCATT ( Moxidectin ) or S76 ( Ivermectin ). Follow instructions and repeat treatment at the appropriate dates to catch any surviving mites. Respect weight dosage. Clean cages carefully. Treat all birds, even those that have no symptoms, as they can host active mites but control the numbers. Mites can stay dormant for months in a bird, in the back of the birds' respiratory system where insecticides don't reach them, so a relapse is possible if the bird gets stressed and its immunity declines. Birds that constantly relapse will also re-infect other birds, so you have to isolate such a bird. That sort of weak immune resistance to mites is inheritable, so don't use birds that relapse multiple times for reprpduction.
