Wargaming says this is the way to gain access to research bureau: "Any player with five unlocked tech tree Tier X ships is fully qualified. Obtaining Research Points in other ways, e.g. through Dockyard events or Battle Performance Bonuses, partially qualifies the player for the Research Bureau." Partial qualification means: "Simply earning Research Points unlocks the ability to spend them - that is, the Research Bureau page in the Armory. See below. A partially qualified player does not receive a bonus, nor can they reset lines. "

Well, either they're lying, or they've changed it. I unlocked the RB when I had precisely three tier 10 ships (Montana, Des Moines, and Venezia) by getting research points from the Anchorage dockyard event. I got my bonus 10k points right then, and I was able to (and did) reset lines immediately (I reset the Montana line that night). So this explanation doesn't jive with my experience.

they really need to make the grind to T10 far less time-consuming if they somehow expect a new player to be able to reasonably interact with this.

As a gouden leeuw enjoyer, it does me good to see her becoming more popular Edit: today also got the leg mod, and yeah it's definitely a solid upgrade

giving up the reload mod is totally worth it. petro camps on island, one airstrike to set like 2-3 fires, activates damage control, have fun with 4 permafires

Don't forget, players have different Battle Pass progressions. PQ has the Yorktown as his premium bonus. My premium bonus is the Des Moines camo and the Yorktown is my level 20 premium reward.

My "premium" bonus is 3000 coal, so it seems to vary quite a lot...

Interesting; perhaps now with the UU it might end up being quite good in clan battles. Being able to bypass islands would be really good for smoking out hidden radar cruisers, both outranging them and not needing to worry about poor RNG with drops - it would even be good at blind guessing where they are, without having to wait an ungodly time till the next shot. CB's are fairly predictable when it comes to placement of radar cruisers so educated guesses galore.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the Elbing LM, as I think it also came with this update and seems to make massive improvements from what I recall.

I originally got my access to Research Points through a dockyard event but was only able to add to my RP stash once I had 5 tech tree lines fully researched

This was the first cruiser line I played since I enjoyed the airstrikes, but tech tree ships (too expensive) made me stop playing it once I gotten plenty of special ships. This upgrade caught my eye and I was wondering how it would perform, but seeing this, looks like I'm certainly getting it. Need to finish getting to my harugumo reset though.

With its legendary upgrade, it has become a complete damage machine.

Yup, I was cycling through BB's yesterday, and on one of the tier 8's. I in what felt like 5 airstrikes at 10 of 15 second intervals had me obliterated in about 30 seconds. I mean I only got off 1 volley from my main guns. At the time I didn't know about this Legendary Mod... I was speechless.

Gouden's already one of my favorite cruisers. In Top 3 definetly. I feel like they are being slept on for some reason. Now with this legmod she is more of a menace to enemy than before man. Looks like the legmod worth is for a fun play.

I wish airstrike upgrade was in the 3rd slot instead of the 4th to be honest. Giving up propulsion upgrade on the airstrike build is a bigger trade off than giving up reload/range because Gouden feels like a brick without it lol

Question. Secondaries can be destroyed/incapacitated. Main batteries can be destroyed/incapacitated. Torpedo tubes can be destroyed/incapacitated, on surface ships at least, unsure about water turds as don’t play them. Can these air assaults that aren’t manually controlled (hybrids, CV’s, etc) able to be destroyed/incapacitated? From memory, I don’t think so. Balanced?

Should give Elbing a try too. Seems like a huge improvement.

Only 1200 steel in the entire pass is a hard nerf. They usualy gave 3300 instead (with some of that being in the payed track). While they reduced the requirements to gain progress they now nerfed the rewards aswell. Feels bad man

Another, among all rest of them, reason to go 100% f2p. It's not about the money, it's about the principle. I like the game in general, I don't agree with WG practices and that's my way to show it. They won't see a dime from me.

If you can get a CV game on Two Brothers, you know what you must do. This ship farms AA Experts like you would not believe on that map. Most CVs can't resist dropping a ship in the middle all game, and the GL eats planes for breakfast.

For me Goudrn Leew is a really comfortable ship for me. It doesn't mean I will make massive damages, but it gives me a really high solo WR. it has great AA, meaning you can position yourself wherever you are without fearing that CV will delete you fast. Any sane CV player will try to avoid Gouden in the first place. It can farm people hiding behind the island with airstrike. It deals massive side damage from fire since both airstrike and main gun have insanely good fire chance. It has comfortable consumables: Hydro, DfAA, and Repair Party. BB fire/flood duration is not a massive problem since it is hiding behind island for most of the time. Even if you need to brawl, fast repair party reload is helping. Its only downside is against submarine, you cannot do anything to submarine hunting you with deep charges.

This is probably the first leg mod I have seen that I "have" to have. I do enjoy Gouden but it was just missing a lot of things. I do wonder, as a non-meme ship, would it be good for competitive? Hydro, quick heal, decent armor, decent fire chance, and now the bombs are nuts? Edit, about RB, you dont have to buy or play the ships until you are ready. I currently have a x17 on my ship line. Just use free exp to unlock the whole line (dont buy the ships), build up multipliers, then you only have to buy the ship once and play one game in the ship to get the RB points on that ship.

The only they thing will oneshot is a submarine on the surface. For regular ships the drop area is too large and you will never hit with more than 14 bombs per drop onto a stationary BB (tested with Yamato), muss less when the target is a smaller ship or actively trying to dodge. And as a result of this the alpha damage is not high enough to oneshot anything, especially when you take saturation into account as well. In 70 games playing that ship I have never gotten anywhere close to that lucky with damage and fires as PQ did in this video. Granted his matchmaking was pretty much the dream scenario for the Gouden Leeuw.

Hey PQ I wanted too ask, I have the leg mod for this ship also, and our builds are very similar, my question is I am at best only getting 18k bomb damage against british and french battle ships, yet I have seen you get 25k and 28k on different salvos, am I missing something, I even went in a training room I cannot get over 20k damage and the most bombs landed was 12?

You won't ever land more than 14 bombs in a single drop just because of how big the drop area is compared to the ship size. All you can do is make sure your target is fully inside and then it's up to RNG. This battle was basically the dream scenario for a Gouden Leeuw and PQ got extremely lucky with the RNG on his drops for both the direct damage and the fires. For every game like this you have 10 others where you barely get anything with the bombs. In 70 games played in this ship I have never gotten close to being that lucky.

I just find it wierd I spent an hour in a training room against hitting the super english battleship as its so big and only 32mm armour, I could not score anything more than 18k for bomb damage that was around 12 bombs landing@@tmGrunty

When I researched 5 tier 10 ships I received 10,000 research points and access to research bureau.

Love your stuff PQ, but you need to know this basic stuff like how to unlock Research Bureau as standard for when doing videos discussing it. The ingame HUD shows nothing about it, I remember watching all these videos about Vampire 2 when I started playing again, and no one discussed how to get Research Bureau. I couldn’t even find much about it on KZread. Eventually found an article somewhere, probably Reddit and then did my 5 T10’s grind. There is a lot of stuff hidden or hard to find, such as how to unlock unique commanders for some nations. What collections are good to grind through, etc.

Nuts, now everyone knows the secret! :)

Watch them announce the super Gouden Leeuw who has this UU as standard within a year.

This is my favorite ship. I still don’t have 5 tier 10s so I don’t have any of the special upgrades. Oh well

She's not really a tanky ship so i would build survivability over sec build. I think though the secondaries are kinda like Massachusett's secondaries, don't pen a lot but are good fire starters

Gouden Main here...I love this ship even more than I already did. I just wish IFHE would apply to the bombs. I'd trade off my fire chance for that any and everyday

Goulden Leeuw and Elbing leg mods are both pure buffs. Elbing leg mod removes both reasons Elbing is awkward to play and GL leg mod gives 50% more damage output on airstrikes at the cost of barely noticeably worse gunpower.

This is insanely powerful and is finally going to address all those ships that push up and claim the middle of the map. Finally we have something that is going to make everyone stay at range and shoot from the back of the map!

The Christmas battlepass was actually really good value IMO, so much that it was worth buying into the "premium" line, or whatever it's called. I know it was a holiday event, so they were being extra nice, but even so, this next battlepass is really disappointing in comparison.

This line has always been dependent on the airstrikes to get consistent results IMO so this UU plays right into the strength of the line. I haven't really bothered much with any of the UUs but this one might be worth a look. Also - not gonna bother with either the Rhode Island gamble box crap nor the battle pass this patch. TBH, there is almost nothing in 13.0 that interests me; IMO it is one of the weaker patches we have had recently.

So this is interesting. Your instant unlock for the paid battle pass line is the Yorktown and final reward is the DM camo. Mine was the opposite with the DM camo as the instant unlock and Yorktown as final reward. Is it possible they are tweaking things depending on user?!?! I’m guessing you don’t have a lot of CVs so they put it at the Yorktown at the beginning. On the other hand, I have a lot of CVs (don’t like them, don’t play them) they may think I’m interested in CVs given how many I have, and therefore placed the Yorktown at the end of my BP… PQ, do you think something shady is going on here????

Yes. They did say that they were experimenting with varied battle passes for each player. However, they are only collecting data to see when the player purchases the premium pass and what for, so i doubt this will be a permanent thing.

Like in the meme "ITS FINE"

NA is such a mess at this point. Now that we have API again, we also get to see through games played per day that bot pop is like 10%, too.

As for the battlepass, I dont think, that I buy me one this update. Usually you get 2800 steel during the pass time and a lot of coal after the end of it for each stage... it's definitely not worth it now. Completely nerfed, but that was expected. Who thinks, WeeGee gives you more stuff than needed, is pretty naive or dumb. So a nerf was suposed to happen. Also I got all ships I need and all resources for my gaming life in WoWS

I was buying battle pass more for coal and steel, but now it became more expansive with less resourses and with harder progression (more focused on everyday playing in contrast with previous system where you could do a progress with weekly missions). Now i probably wont buy it anymore

No more battle pass for me. The rewards such as steel ( a joke ), zero research bureau points, economic bonus and flags have been getting fewer and fewer , along with the increase in cost equals to me keeping my money and no more battle pass. I now play with what I have or don't have with economic bonus, flags etc.. Never spent any money on the bundles over Christmas. Thanks as always for your review and view.

It's almost like server population reflects the current state of the game.

Keeping Early Access ships in that state to bank as much money from it before making them free to play.
