The compositions selected for this recording show the musical past of Bohemian music. To a large extont there was a cosmopolitan style that was shared by musicians throughout Europe. But at the same time there were regional styles whose individual characteristics were also borrowed eventually to appear beyond their riative area. Nowhere is this mixture of the cosmopolitan and regional better represented than in the Czech lands of the Middle Ages. In the 13th century the last of the Přemyslidi rulers strengthened the political position of the Czecn lands within the framework of Europe. This was also a time when music flowered, particularly at the Pregue courts. Several prominent minnesingers resided there, notably Neidhart von Reuenthal (1190-1240) and Tannhäuser (1200-1266). Medieval musicians, minstrels and joculators included not only love songs but also dance music in their repertoires. "Ductia" is one of the oldest preserved polyphonic dances of that time. Czech music was influenced by the love songs of the troubadours, and by that of trouvères, as transmitled eastward by minnesingers [...]. (from the booklet)
Concerning the video: I decided to use the wonderful Codex Gigas, also known as the Devil's Bible for the giant painting of a devil figure inside. This manuscript is the largest medieval manuscript ever made and was made in Bohemia in the 13th century, perfect for the music presented in this album.

Quite wierd putting latin music here as it's more European im general, theres above 50 czech language songs just from 14/15 th century, The good example: Jistebnický kancionál.

In the 12th-15th centuries there wasn't much, if any religious music written except for the Catholic Church. If the Gnostics had music it did not survive, and they were the only real competitors for Christian adherents until the Church exterminated them as heretics and drove their remnants underground. I'm also not aware of much medieval Judaic music, which is not to say it wasn't written and performed but it wasn't saved in quantity, so in terms of non-secular, 95% of what you hear was written for the Catholic hierarchy.

@@lisaramaci6973this musical tenant was taken from the Pythagorean schools, there was nothing New about this music during these centuries. The Renaissance period in terms of all the Art's were a copy of what Pythagoras himself taught his students, and goodness knows how long before Pythagoras. These harmonies wisdom and knowledge of Natura Naturans are nothing new....

Yes, this is all Christian music in the sense that it was written and composed by Catholics but it isn't necessarily sacred, holy music because even back then, people wrote music about a plethora of topics.
