Before watching this I didn't really realize how much of a sacrifice Jackson did in giving up fencing, i thought that yeah, he gave up a great future, but I didn't realize how much he loved fencing until I saw this episode, he practically glowed. But can you imagine having the courage to do what he did, giving up a stable and bright future, disappointing your country and parents and the people who had helped you to get this far, giving up something that is sure and you're actually good at to do something completely out of your wheelhouse, to start at the bottom again and without the certainty that you'll bve good or succeed.

Leah Curran fencing isn't that stable either. Sports esp at Olympic level gets super competitive and the expiration date may be even earlier than a celebrity. Even if got7 disbands at this point China would gladly have him part of their entertainment. It does feel like a waste to let go of the dream after practicing all those years though.

Leah Curran but me, as an athlete in HK I think he better be an idol like now because being an athlete isn't easy in Hong Kong and cannot earn much .. maybe i can say that the hk government didn't put in enough resources for sports. So I am glad that Jackson is an idol in Korea now and receiving lots of love from igot7😊😊

Jackson is the type of person that you thought he just a silly guy that always bluffing and act silly but actually has a really amazing talent. He will turned to absolutely like a different person in two situation. One, on the stage. Second, during fencing. As igot7, I'm sorry for him because he giving up his career in fencing to chase his dream. At the same time I really thankful for him to be Got7. Thank you, Jackson. We love you

I don't think we should feel sorry for Jackson because he chose to leave fencing to become an idol it's what he wanted to do, he's already said in an interview and at GOT7 Seoul concert he doesn't like people saying things like that because he's happy being in GOT7.

well being and idol was his biggest dream not fencing. fencing makes bad money even if you're a medalist. he's an idol now which means he makes more. he debut under the big 3 so he gets paid unlike small company idols. giving up fencing was good in every way. being an olympic athlete in china is just like a slave. i don't think he gave up much considering he now has both dreams and success.

+Meklavier Are u sure the "income" China pays them is good? I think it will just be a normal life. And that is only if u win gold medal... Not worth it at all. The chance of making it as an idol is higher than being gold medalist statistically speaking. Even if u are the best, u can still lose the gold medal. Olympics is also 4 years apart so too risky in addition.

I don't know if what I'm saying is relevant, but fencing needs a lot of practice to get the ropes or else you'll look silly and it'll be very hard for the judges to say who won, especially in saber. Idols don't have that much time to train. I think that's why a lot of the sports in the Idol athletics are rather simple, like sprint, relay, the fight while grabbing the rope tied to your thigh (I don't know how it is called).

Jackson is one of my inspirations in Fencing, especially since we specialize in the same weapon (Sabre). My coach once showed me and a friend a video of Jackson fencing and we didn't know it was him until the end. He really is amazing, and according to my coach he's even more amazing in person (yes my coach has met him and she said that he was one of the kindest people she'd met, I think it was either at junior worlds or youth olympics cause her student went as well). She's been training me up for nationals and potentially squad and I'm so happy I have someone as amazing as Jackson to look up to in my favorite sport. Even though I've only been fencing for less than two years, having an inspiration really pushes me to train as well as I can. So thanks Jackson :)

@@monicar4721 I went to the national youth championships in both epee and sabre and came 8th in sabre the first year I competed in the national championships! I was also selected for my regions team and fenced with them for 3 years. I was also selected for the national development program, but because I was leaving the country, I wasn't able to join it. The year I moved to the US, I qualified for a national competition, but I wasn't able to go because of school. I no longer train with the same coach and team because I moved, and because of Covid and injuries I took a step back from fencing for a while, but I still do it and love it! I don't fence for my college because of time, but I fence at a really awesome club in the city I live in and train with some amazing people (and my roommate who also fences lol). I have an internship abroad this summer and I plan to train when I go abroad because the country has amazing sabre fencers. Overall, fencing has been among my favorite activities and I'm so happy I made the choice to continue fencing. If you're thinking about fencing, I recommend it so much! I made so many amazing friends through fencing, met my partner because of fencing, and it has made me so happy.

While watching this and seeing how happy Jackson is, I felt like crying. I know he's probably as happy right now singing, and performing on stage but I hope just as everybody else have their own interests such as acting or going solo or whatever, I hope one day jackson will take time to return to fencing and compete again .. I personally think it can happen without the group being affected just like when you pursue other stuff.

Jackson had not practiced fencing for six years, still won over the world champ . I am speechless! A lot of people think that he is dumb, silly but actually he has high IQ which was evaluated by a Korean psychiatrist during got7 hard carry show. Fencing requires fast brain and fast act. How can be a young man who can be so handsome, so humble, so well-family educated, so championed, so charming, so multitalented, so.........in one body?👏😍💪🧀🤴
