I’ve seen a lot of clips of Mayer just sitting in with people and hanging back out of the lights, just digging playing his guitar. He’s a thoroughbred musician and student of the craft. Love him for stuff like this.

If you don’t have it you need to get David Ryan Harris‘s first solo CD. part of why he never made it as a solo artist is he is so talented and does music from so many different genres the record company didn’t know how to market him and what radio to play him on. I first saw David in 1989 in Clemson when he was a teenager. He was lead singer and lead guitarist for Follow for Now. I saw them in Clemson, Columbia, and Charleston probably at least a dozen times.

He recently joined repeat SP vocalist Lizzy McAlpine (I think it was at the Troubadour too) so it's not as surprising as it may have been a few years ago. He's really gotten into interacting with other artists online, regardless of whether they've sold a million records or 1000.

I see where my phrasing was confusing because I wasn't quite sure what I meant when I read it back.

@@eamonnw true, good point! There's a big dose of that too. I think the best way to summarise it is that the phrasing is quite BB King but the attack of the notes and some of the more aggressive licks like the 12th fret strumming are SRV.

I love David Ryan Harris, and you got FREAKING John Mayer!! Love that John is popping up and having fun with different artists.

Drummer is incredible. He matched the soloist's intensity and feel so well! That's such a hard thing to do for live solos, but he caught Mayer's thoughts and shapes and helped it along. Mad respect!

Man, John Mayer is a virtuoso, even though you expect him to be good he keeps amazing you. This is how good he is. DRH X John Mayer X Scary Pockets = Winning combination!

john is everywhere these days, i would have never thought back in 2000 that he would be such a great musical chameleon some 20 years later.

WTF! The grooviest groove on the Tube! Scary Pockets are a seriously class act and the ease of JM’s playing is off-the chart. I loved how everyone is so in the pocket and enjoying themselves yet giving space to their featured guitarist!

In every performance I've seen/heard of John sitting in with other bands, he's always been tasteful with his playing and respectful of the other musicians on stage. Think I remember hearing or reading him saying something about how much he enjoys being *in* a band, as opposed to leading one. It definitely looks like he's having a ton of fun whenever I watch him perform as a featuring artist.

I can’t help but think that this is DRH’s song to John and John’s song for DRH. Beautiful!

First time I think 🤔🧐 and see John So good and a same time soo good time and enjoy the this blues soul masterpiece

when my son is born in March, this will be on replay forever. Maybe I'll try singing it to him, but I'll probably leave that work to the professionals lol
