    Baz that is amazing .. all the way up the fingerboard. I have been looking at Guitalele's for some time now and I honestly think this has such an amazing sound and tone. I wasn't sure whether I would pay £350 but having heard it .. changed my mind. Thanks Baz! Loved this one and I hope you are well. Much love. x P.S. It's so lovely to see you enjoying playing an instrument.

    My jaw hit the floor when I heard the price... and free shipping here in the Unglued States! Sounds loud enough to drown out my wife's complaining, too. ;-) I'll pitch it to her like this: "You can trot out all your old guitar chords--it's compact, and works like a gitbox with a capo on the 5th fret!"

    What I've heard works better than the standard E to E tuning (if you wish to tune a guitalele like a guitar), is tuning the E-A-D an octave higher than you would on a guitar, and the G-B-E with the same octave as on a standard guitar. My understanding is that the body size of a guitalele responds significantly better to those frequency ranges. Sure, for a guitarist you won't be able to do a scale run that easily crosses between the D and G strings; but the chord shapes are right and you don't have to worry about transcribing to a different key when playing with others.

    Great review. I have an Islander guitalele that I bought several years ago and enjoy playing it. I did change the strings to fluorocarbons, but don't remember the brand - pepe romero or d'addario. It also has an active pickup, but with the controls on the side. Wish they went with a sound hole model, but when I bought it there weren't many other options.

    Gotta admit I was intrigued from the macro shots to see what brand you would be reviewing. Expecting to see a guitalele, I figured I would just watch out of curiosity and nothing more. Well, now I have to find something locally to try to get a feel for the ergonomics in general. Well done Soundsmith and thanks for the review!👍👍 One question, were you playing the regular guitar chords you would play on a guitar? Wasn't sure if the A-A tuning would require changing the chord shape.

    I'm guessing you'd have to use thicker guage strings to tune it E to E and still get the proper tone response from it...the tension would be too slack if you simply tuned it down from A to E without a different set on

    @GotAUkulele my original plan was try guitar. Right to full sized classical felt like I was hugging a piano. Guitale from Luna got me into 6 string BUT the bridge exploded so I made it into a birdhouse. So I gave up on that and got a parlor guitar from Peavey. That you've not reviewed yet. I like the thing enough that I kept it.

    I tried a guitalele but didn’t take to it. The nut is too wide for my woman fingers. Of course, mine is likely not as well-made as this one. If I want six strings, I’ll just play guitar.

    I love the sound of these, but sadly, the nut is way too wide for me. I can't do any bar chords and my left hand gets very tired, very quickly!! I invested in an 8 string tenor also, which has turned out to be so much fun. Been trying to sell my guitalele because I will never play it. It's the only instrument in my collection that frustrates me.

  • @GotAUkulele

    @@GotAUkulele but, 8 string tenor's neck is quite a bit slenderer than the guitalele, I find, so the poor guitalele is quite neglected now.

  • @GotAUkulele

    @GotAUkulele

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, but that is because the strings are paired on an 8 string and designed to be played as one. If you spaced a guitalele in the same way it would be impossible to fret.

  • @karenlynnkennedy6162

    @karenlynnkennedy6162

    @@GotAUkulele I guess what I'm trying to say is that I also have an Ovation guitar that I have had many years, and its neck and nut are still noticeably narrower than the neck and nut on my guitalele, and I understand about the pairing of the strings on my tenor, and everything you explained, but I am sadly disappointed that the neck and nut on my guitalele that make it too wide and difficult for me to play and enjoy. You gave a great review however!!

    @@karenlynnkennedy6162 and without labouring the point - I have steel strung acoustics with narrower necks - but again - that’s about string gauges being thinner and allowing a closer spacing. I honestly don’t see how this could be any narrower whilst still being fretable

    I cringe whenever I see a strap button mounted perpendicularly to the heel like that. Always in the way if you lay the instrument down, a hassle in a hard case, and not a particularly good place to attach a strap, anyhow.
