I'm a firm believer that Gordy would have also mauled the boy to death too had his eyes not been obscured. He would grow up to think he had some special relationship with the animal but in reality I think he was just lucky that Gordy didn't see that he was making direct eye contact.

This scene is both terrifying and sad at the same time. Clearly Gordy had a friendship with the family, only to be spooked from the first balloon popping and probably thought it was something else, like a gunshot perhaps. Which caused him to freak out. When the last balloon popped, it caused him to snap out of it and not remember what he did. Only for him to get shot dead while trying to communicate to the boy who he saw as his friend. It goes to show you why it's stupid to have dangerous animals around without the proper care. I'm a believer that we us humans have the abilities to help animals who are in need, but I am not a believer in capturing animals who are not in need and force them to be entertainers

If you look at all the chimp related documentaries from Cid Dwyer on youtube, you will see that chimps in the entertainment industry have been horribly mistreated. A lot of movie chimps came from the same breeder that Travis the Chimp came from. They are intelligent enough to understand that they are captive, but still animals, which leads them to lashing out. Captivity is awful for a chimp's mental health, and so is being forced to perform. So they eventually lash out

There's several comments saying he signed "im sorry" and "what happened" after the incident but no asl thread or discussion supports this theory. The consensus seems to be that it's a learned/rehearsed gesture that he'd get a treat for, or he's trying to communicate *something* to the kid. The movie's whole message is to not humanize animals, so it doesn't make sense for Peele to write the chimp as apologetic for what it did.

Not to mention, he dies direclty because he (like everyone else in the crowd) looked Jean Jacket in the eye/directly...

This scene goes from terrifying to tragic so quickly. After you see this horrific carnage, you slowly realize that Gordy's an animal. An innocent animal that doesn't know right from wrong. He's scared, confused and doesn't realize what he had just done. His friend is cowering and hiding from him and as he reaches out to him for comfort, he's killed.

Easily the best scene in this incredible movie. The overall symbolism as well as the dipiction of the animal is nothing short of genius. I'm positive this was inspired by the real life story of Travis the Chimp, which really brings this story to life because...it DID happen.

The way Gordy dies also ties into one of the central themes of peele’s movies in that humanity isn’t the hottest meal on the plate. Both Gordy and jj are examples of how dangerous nature is and how people thinking they have a better understanding than they really do means they can control and exploit it. In spite of how terrifying these creatures are they still went down like any other wild animal would when getting their brains blown out.An ongoing theme of these movies is of people who try to control what they not only don’t understand but also believe they have superiority over only to get the worst humbling of their life. The final nail in the coffin is they can’t even say they lost to something larger than life and say it took something nearly unstoppable to beat them as they lost to something just as vulnerable as them.

Gordy usses sign when he saw young Jupe. I am pretty sure he said "what happen family" or "why family gone" My sign is a little rusty. Gordy really didn't know what was going on and never intended to hurt anyone. But that's what happens when you try to have a chimp as a pet, they're ment for the wild
