    When you get him off of the highly "scripted produced etc" American TV shows he's actually a really decent bloke, especially since he won all the stars and doesn't have that same pressure on him anymore, you can see it in Masterchef kids or the UK kitchen nightmares episodes like where he went to the Brighton Caribbean restaurant

    One of the best things about Gordon is that he fully recognizes he can be an a-hole and is humble about it. Yeah, he can be incredibly toxic. He has had issues with cultural appropriation. He reacts defensively at first but then he listens. He's got a massive ego but he has managed to constrain it. Must have a good support system around him. Imperfect, sometimes despicable, overall very likable. He's a character

    I think when Gordon said "not everyone is cut out to be top tier," that was something everybody needs to hear and understand. It's not to say that you shouldn't fight like hell to be the best you can be, but sometimes mediocre is all you are going to achieve. And there's nothing wrong with that, as long as you keep trying to get better. Very few people make it without working very hard to get where they can succeed. And sometimes, you just don't make it. And i think that the modern thinking of "everybody is a winner" that they teach in schools does much more harm than good. Learning at an early age that sometimes you aren't the winner is something everybody needs to know. So you can learn to handle it. Professionally, sometimes i perform way below what i think i should be doing. That's okay, as long as i can take that and try to get better for next time. Failure happens, and it's not the end of the world. Take that loss, try and learn from it, and get on with your life.

    I think this applies a lot in ultra-competitive fields like fine cuisine. It takes a lot of talent and hardwork to get to the upper echelons of that industry but it takes immense mental strength to just not fall through and unimaginable tenacity to make it to the very top. Sometimes it's not even worth getting to the very top of that food chain. It's important to be good at something but making it to the very top or being the "best" is often not as fulfilling as others might think.

  • @KBRoller

    @KBRoller

    That's not a "modern" thought. That's the definition of the myth of the American Dream, which has been taught in the States since 1931 to pretty much everyone from a young age. People truly believe that, at least in the US, "anyone who works hard will succeed at anything they try". It's pretty toxic, as if you believe that lie you must also believe its contrapositive: "anyone who hasn't succeeded just hasn't tried hard enough, so it's their own fault". But it's certainly not a new concept.

    I got half a mind to start a food business, but I KNOW top tire is not even something I will try to do. But most people are not after that and certainly not will to pay for it. So I plan to level up basic stuff to a point where people know what they are eating but at a level they can't be bothered to make at home.

    I think he does great by setting the tone with his introduction ending with the grilled cheese sandwich. And i'm sure Gordon Ramsey has probably caught on to josh's fantasy feud through social media if not likely did some research before appearing on the show. To be so world-famous, renowned and successful and still poke fun at yourself and do random KZread videos is unheard of. And he’s simply just having fun and making people laugh. There are KZreadrs with a fraction of the fame whose egos are massive in comparison and who could never do the same.

So happy for you Trevor, that's gotta feel good nailing the recipe and feeding it back to the man the myth the legend. And I know it's an awkward parasocial relationship dynamic, but I am really happy for Josh getting to do this, and how far Mythical Kitchen has come. Props all around. Josh isn't just a talented chef, but he's a chef that has some striking similarities to Gordon by the sound of it. Maybe it's just me being wishful, but I truly do see a world class chef in Josh, should he choose to pursue it in the future. I think Gordon meant in it a sense that if Josh were to pursue being one in a restaurant, he'd be great at it. Coming behind closed doors, which is definitely what he does at Mythical, is quite different from that of a line cook or master chef, serving the masses. _edit: removed errant "we've" from the start._

I wonder if what Gordon really meant by Chef, was _Head_ Chef; the one who leads the whole kitchen. Because, arguably, that's close to what he's been doing with the Mythical Kitchen... except that it's a private kitchen, without the same stressor. Thus, the compliment is in Gordon telling him that he has what it takes to do this in a restaurant setting. At the end of the day, *_whatever_* intricacies Gordon meant by it... @@THENAMEISQUICKMAN just a shame he perpetuated the "school expensive, mmkay" myth. School is expensive in the US...culinary school happens to be the most affordable at 15-40k total. 100k is absolutely the *top* tuition for a culinary program, 150, 200, 250k are unheard of and non-existent. Going to school/paying for it isn't the hard part...getting a non-abusive job afterwords that allows you a sliver of time to yourself and enough money to afford anything is.
