A diesel or electric is faster these days, but the experience of riding on a steam locomotive just can't be beat

I love the inclusion of the photo of Gordon and the Flying Scotsman in the cab at 5:54.

In theory at least, Gordon should be able to top 100mph, which would put him in the "conventional line high speed" category. After all, Flying Scotsman did it regularly in service, and Tornado proved that even the early-model A1s could do it.

@@AbbeyYard Of a locomotive class with a top speed of over 100mph. And it's not like he was just built and then just left to run as is. He's received multiple rebuilds over the years. One of those likely brought him up to production standards.

No Scotsman did the 100 mph with a light train test run Maybe a a3 or a4 can reach 100 mph consistently And tornado’s design is much later than Gresley a1

@@rocketchen2890 You're not the first person to make that argument, and I've already addressed it. Even if Gordon originally couldn't, it's canon that he's received multiple rebuilds over time. Seriously, read the thread before posting. Sometimes this happens if a thread is particularly long, but there's only been two previous comments here, you don't have an excuse.

But that’s where you’re wrong In awdry’s cannon Gordon was rebuild into a two cylinder loco So he lost a handful of traction and his boiler hasn’t been upgraded into an a3 so I think the boiler pressure is around 180psi I think Gordon in regular service speed is around 70～80 Even with the upgrades 100 mph consistently is still very difficult Heck Scotsman nowadays only can be allowed to go more than 75mph

HST's do have concealed couplers, specifically for being towed like this. I will admit the layout of Pip & Emma's faces make it a bit...difficult, considering the coupler is supposed to be

In reality the HSTs have couplings that are stowed if they ever need to be rescued. But with Pip and Emma's face, it's kind of awkward. The couplings would be where their mouths are
