When i was around 14 years old in New Brunswick, i bought a Gordon Lightfoot album for my mother. At the record store, i quickly decided to buy it, not really knowing if my mom would like it. Of course, we heard Gordon on the radio at home all the time. Back then, personally, i loved his songs, and i'm not surprised that he's recognised has the top Canadian musician of the century.

Red and Rick always had such a special style and ability like Maury Muehleisen did with Jim Croce to play such perfectly complimentary parts for Lightfoot. When I was younger and first heard Sunday Concert the blend was so brilliant...a perfect combination of discipline.freedom, sweetness and dynamics. This video is just proof of the magic this music holds. It's like its patiently waiting to be discovered by new ears.

What a truly inspirational singer and songwriter he is! He can still carry you away to the Canadian North Woods or the Carefree Highway-he sings and you are there. oh, how long ago. Look at 'Richard' (the ol' strawboss, Rick Haynes) and the now late Red Shea. And Gord, with his sherry coloured eyes and impatient stage manners. There are songs here I never heard live and haven't heard in years. This, then, is why we know he is simply the best. And his was the first version of Me and Bobby McGee, and still the best I think.

It’s such a treat to see this footage from Gordon’s prime. What an artist! I’ve always liked Gordon, but really started digging into his catalogue during COVID and had my eyes opened to his incredible talent and the depth of his body of work. Those of us who came of age during the 70’s surely know him for standards such as if You Could Read My Mind, Sundown and Carefree Highway, but maybe not so much for gems like Summer Side of Life, 10 Degrees and Getting Colder, or Early Morning Rain. Plus, he had the musical chops to write the music and lyrics. Who does that? And as some have said, in his prime, he was such a force on the 12 string… no drums needed.

I think Gordon’s early material like this concert (Part 1 & 2) is the purest essence of his musical and poetic talent! His poets’ soul really comes through, and his choice of subject is so classical story telling of Canada and the things that were close to his heart. He was so pure and simple and sweet, before he was influenced by other artists that diluted some of this innocence. I also love his twang….these were early days….pure Gordon Lightfoot. He later lost the twang and Canadian accent…such is life! But, I really love this early material….he is lovely and enticing, and I admit to falling head over heels for his singing voice!! :)

@elltoft Hi, my name is Rob. If your father is Red Shea I have nothing to say but THANKYOU. Red Shea is a great guitarist and someone that Gord always talked about fondly. As for Terry Clements, same thing. Terry was there when Gord wrote the WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD and those electric guitar riffs are indeed Terry's. Gordon Lightfoot (although his prime years may well be behind him, is still a legend.) Oh by the way, I used to work with the Bass Players' song Jeremiah!

A few days after the Grey Cup last year, my mom borrowed Lightfoot's new live CD from the library; one listen and I was hooked! My mom's favourite is Early Morning Rain, it came out when she was in grade 9. She used to sing his songs during her summer job as a strawberry picker during high school. I was so disappointed when I wasn't able to see him at the Harvest Picnic last week, but knowing he was nearby made me love him even more.

Thanks for the upload! Had the honor of meeting Gord and the Band outside the Arlington in Santa Barbara.Stood around and talked like we were old friends. Swapped sea stories with Terry (we're ex-Navy) Great bunch of guys. My drunk friend bummed a Cig. from Gord. His body guard was'nt amused but he just smiled and gave him one. Such grace! A night I'll never forget.

His voice in his prime and amazing guitar work says it all. I accually moved my family from toronto to orillia in the late 80s. due tell the noon day bell really did sound in orilla at noon(summertime dream), And in restless, i owned a farm near orillia, and would hear the steel rail going by in the early morning. we still hear it

As I listen to Gordon Lightfoot, it is not to recall the past but to feel how he speaks to my experiences now...it is a shame that true storytellers are very rare nowadays...and there is no better guitar virtuoso...

You never got to see him in person? We went to see him so many times I can't count. He was soooo worth the price, and the effort of driving to wherever! His music is even better in concert than the studio recordings. I have loved him dearly as long as I've known his music....and that's a long time. Cheri B.

The first CFL game I ever saw (I live in the U.S., so it's not exactly advertised here, lol) was the 100th Grey Cup, back in 2012; I saw it on ESPN. Gordon sang a shortened version of "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" as part of the half-time show, and got a standing ovation. Justin Bieber, performing later in the same half-time show, got booed. He called on the crowd to make some noise; they booed louder.

This concert was recorded during a break in the recording of the LP "Summer Side of Life" and includes several unappreciated gems from that album. Have you ever heard such perfect live concert guitar as you hear on "Nous Vivons Ensemble"? Have you ever heard a more passionate Gord as you hear on this performance of "Talking In Your Sleep"? Will a new generation ever experience music as good as this?
