Gordale Scar scramble, Janet's Foss and Malham Cove - a heavenly hike in Yorkshire Dales
In the late afternoon of the 4th of August 2022, my younger daughter Olivia (10) and I travelled to Yorkshire Dales in the North of Yorkshire, England to do a 6 mile circular hike from the picturesque village of Malham.
It's one of the classic Yorkshire Dales hikes going along Gordale Scar gorge (ravine), we scrambled along the waterfall to the top, then proceeded to Malham Cove - a lime stone formation with sheer drop cliffs. At the beginning of our journey, we also visited Janet's Foss waterfall where some adventurous people were swimming in the cold water.
We went there very late - after 4 pm - in order to avoid the crowds of tourists, which worked really well for us.

It really did look like you were ON TOP OF THE WORLD! The Yorkshire Dales look incredible - seems to be a very underrated part of the UK! Love the hidden steps across the dry stone wall, I definitely think the hole was easier to see! Great video, Olga!

Beautiful walk Olga and Olivia. I walked that route (except up the waterfall) a few years ago with my son and daughter. We had a little break in Yorkshire over Easter and that’s when we climbed Pen-y-ghent as well. There was too much water coming down the falls and at the time I didn’t even know on a calmer day you could climb it. It’s such an impressive place, I can see why it’s so popular 😊

Yeah, when it's too wet it's too risky to climb up it. We did it a couple of times on a more or less dry day. But when we came after the rain, we went up along the steep hill on the left instead of along the waterfall. It's a gorgeous view from where the waterfall starts, I didn't go there to film with the camera because I needed my hands free.

Wow the Yorkshire Dales look amazing. What a great place to hike. Those people sure are brave to get in the water at the falls.

It's a shame you couldn't hear my howling that well on the video, my phone struggles with audio. But the people all the way down at the bottom heard me. I am glad now you got to see the views from the top, David, without even having to go up it.
