Gopro Mounted to My Crab Pot

Спорт

I strapped my Gopro to my crab pot and sent down to the ocean floor. We set out pots in about 10 foot of water, and the sunlight came through to brighten up the video, the crabs had more details on them due to this increased light.

You inspired me to go crabbing for the first time today. We got 17 big males in just a few hours! We were crabbing the suislaw river in an underpowered inflatable boat, so much fun. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Definitely clearer video quality, PK! It's kind of sad to watch them panic and not be able to get back out, but that's the name of the game! ✌️

Crab season closed here in so-cal but I've heard but not tried using a small can of the cheapest dollar store cat food along with the chicken. just barely open the can on opposite sides and zip tie into the pot. The oily the flavor the better, I've read it really puts out a really good scent trail. I'll be trying it in November. I was thinking maybe you'd give it a try the next time you go. Tight Lines

Thanks for that footage pk. I went out to the south Jetty docks yesterday and the crabbing was amazing for dock crab. Limited out after 9 hours. For me that's a good day! First time limiting out. This is going to be a good year!

👍 This prove crabs don't communicate nor read sign language. The guy inside desperately trying to escape but they keep coming in.

The crab not being able to enter could be from two reasons. 1. The crabs inside are blocking the tines of the door from swinging inward. 2. I have had to adjust a few of the swinging doors on my pots so they would swing freely. Sometimes if the door is all the way to either side of the opening the door sticks. They can stick in the open or closed position. You should check yours to make sure they can fully open and freely shut from any position.

Pretty interesting vid Pk...I think i have a good explanation regarding the crab scatching its back on your trap...It's in the begining stages of molting. I can compare with other animal parts, like the whitetail deer after their antlers finsh growing they rub them on trees to get the velvet off. I know, not the same, but similar...our blue crabs molt about 25 times in their 3.5 yr life span. I imagine about the same for dungees...and you caught it on video! That one is gonna get even bigger!! *I think youre gonna need a bigger crab pot... haha. Tight lines 😎

@@oregonlife Sure, it would be a great way to not waste time placing traps to soak in a crabless area.! The camera, lights and cable is approx $4000. but well worth it. These crabbers rely on bringing in $700,000 plus hauls every trip..!
