Gopro Mounted to My Crab Pot
Спорт
I strapped my Gopro to my crab pot and sent down to the ocean floor. We set out pots in about 10 foot of water, and the sunlight came through to brighten up the video, the crabs had more details on them due to this increased light.

That one crab was Huge!
Kinda sounds like it's a South Park skit with his play by play...lol😄😄
You inspired me to go crabbing for the first time today. We got 17 big males in just a few hours! We were crabbing the suislaw river in an underpowered inflatable boat, so much fun. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Nice! I had an inflatable before, and we took it out all over in Coos Bay. Fun times.
Definitely clearer video quality, PK! It's kind of sad to watch them panic and not be able to get back out, but that's the name of the game! ✌️
Crab season closed here in so-cal but I've heard but not tried using a small can of the cheapest dollar store cat food along with the chicken. just barely open the can on opposite sides and zip tie into the pot. The oily the flavor the better, I've read it really puts out a really good scent trail. I'll be trying it in November. I was thinking maybe you'd give it a try the next time you go. Tight Lines
Underwater footage is so cool. We would love to go crabbing with you. I want to learn how to clean them.
Thanks for that footage pk. I went out to the south Jetty docks yesterday and the crabbing was amazing for dock crab. Limited out after 9 hours. For me that's a good day! First time limiting out. This is going to be a good year!

Entertaining and educational, keep up the great videos!
If I ever come west coast you're taking me crabbing bro...looks fun af
Haha I can't get enough of that crab rubbing on the trap!
Ngl, that crab was literally tea bagging you. Like "I see what you did here, get effed" LOL gotta respect these creatures, yet, we're way more up the food chain ...
👍 This prove crabs don't communicate nor read sign language. The guy inside desperately trying to escape but they keep coming in.
Crab Cam!
The crab not being able to enter could be from two reasons. 1. The crabs inside are blocking the tines of the door from swinging inward. 2. I have had to adjust a few of the swinging doors on my pots so they would swing freely. Sometimes if the door is all the way to either side of the opening the door sticks. They can stick in the open or closed position. You should check yours to make sure they can fully open and freely shut from any position.
Pretty interesting vid Pk...I think i have a good explanation regarding the crab scatching its back on your trap...It's in the begining stages of molting. I can compare with other animal parts, like the whitetail deer after their antlers finsh growing they rub them on trees to get the velvet off. I know, not the same, but similar...our blue crabs molt about 25 times in their 3.5 yr life span. I imagine about the same for dungees...and you caught it on video! That one is gonna get even bigger!! *I think youre gonna need a bigger crab pot... haha. Tight lines 😎

Ah, that makes sense, Roland. Tight lines!
Big crab are poser's. Ha. He's playing with ya man! Good stuff, cool seeing how crabs react around the trap. Cheerz Sir!
I Just Love your Vids, How about some more Clamming . Living here in AZ with the temp reaching 115dg F its nice see see some one in a Jacke or sweater in the summer :)

We went clamming today, and didn't get any. We saw a lot of gapers, but would need a jack hammer to dig them out of the rocky shore.
You should name your pot _Marriage._ Easier to get into than to get out of.

Haha, I like that one! I will do that. The marriage trap
Thanks PK but I was still waiting for the keeper count. Question: have you ever noticed a difference in the quantity or size when you go into deeper water??
Nice underwater footage cool to see. Do you know where to crab or fish in Brookings? 👍😄🦀
Never seen a trap like that how are they getting in I don't see doors and they are smart reason have hard time getting out is everything blends in as one
maybe big crab was scraping barnacles off his shell
Great video PK..!! I wonder why the Deadliest Catch guys don't do this to inspect how many crabs are on the bottom??? or even drop a remote camera with 500 feet of line in Alaska

It would be interesting to see what crabs are like at that depth. And the camera that can survive that environment, can't be cheap.

@@oregonlife Sure, it would be a great way to not waste time placing traps to soak in a crabless area.! The camera, lights and cable is approx $4000. but well worth it. These crabbers rely on bringing in $700,000 plus hauls every trip..!
Maybehe was trying to get the barnacles off his back? But very interesting footage!!
Cool footage. I wonder if that big one was trying to scratch off barnacles from his shell? 🤷♂️

someone said it was in the beginning stage of molting.
How did you mount your go pro to your crab pot
The current was too strong the crab wasn't purposely getting a back rub. You can see because of the white tail on the pot
it's getting a backrub lol
How do you mount the GoPro to the poll? You use any special gear?
@oregonlife

No, just electric tape is enough, and a gopro bike handle bar mount.

Back rub is more for bears 🐻 😃
You had a Salmon swim past.
pot too short small little
Pk where's a seal when you need one? Looking FWD to seeing a seal assault a trap on camera, Next time instead of chicken or fish as bait , put a cat scratching post in side the trap! that was really bizarre , maybe send that footage to a marine biologist
First!
Love PK love his videos. But not going to lie.. Oregon fishing sucks compare to CA.. you out in half the work and get twice the first in CA
