Great comparison David. I own both but find myself using the Insta 360 go 3 all the time. It's just so much more convenient and versatile to use when traveling with family.

here is a secret... I think 99% of people would not have any clue you aren't telling the truth if you made a video with only Insta360 GO 3 footage and said it was Hero 11 footage. Side by side you can strain to see a difference, but if you just made an entire video from GO 3 footage I think almost no one would bat an eye. that's impressive. I have the Hero 11 but ever since I got the GO 3 I just don't use it anymore.

I’ve read so many bad reviews about the Insta 360 Go 3. Was afraid to buy even on Black Friday. It looks cool. Thinking I screwed up.

My dad used to water ski with my little sister. She'd start on his shoulders and then crawl down and stand on the skis. This was WAY before wake surfing. Thanks for the comparison, but I have the Go2, GoPRo and Insta 360X2 and all three are failry different, but the Insta360's are far and away more useful day to day than the GoPro.

Great job on the video David! Thanks for making it. Did you boost the audio of the thumbscrews at about 6:30? The sound effects are what really drive home your point about the mount-swapping on the GoPro.🤣😂

Good review and comparison. Agree 100% that both the GoPro and Insta360 action cameras are excellent, but are built for different use cases. My partner and I use them both, but we turn to the Insta360 for everyday action recording (parks, road trips, etc) and the GoPro 11 when we venture into the waves, onto the ski slopes or anything else that is more rugged.

For sure. Different cameras. I’m using both, but the Go3 is definitely more of a b-roll camera. Surprisingly good mic on the Go3. But the non replaceable battery and SD card doesn’t really allow the Go3 to be a main camera.

Great comparison David. just ordered the GoPro 11 (I know, I know the 12 is due and the DJI Action 4 is out), but you've offered some good guidance on these. If the Hero 12 is released and is has a quick release and a more convenient mic portal, then I will probably upgrade.

Totally agree it’s a weird comparison but good job nonetheless. I think a better comparison is between the Go3 and DJI Action 2. Not just video quality but usability as well. I’m curious when you would use the Go3 vs Action 2…like you pointed out in your conclusion between the Go3 and Hero11.

The GO3 is kinda on its own niche in my opinion that I'd buy it to compliment my action cam. My wish list this year just gets bigger and bigger 😢Sony A6700, DJI OA4 and the GO3, this 3 is such a great load out that you've got all bases covered to cover all situations.

Which has better horizon lock? I try to find a camera to capture my camera behind the scènes photography weddings

Couldn't agree more in the comparisons. I think carry three 'non-main' cameras in my bag all the time. The X3, the Go3, and GoPro Hero 11. What I'm doing will drive me to pick the right action cam. Timelapses? GoPro. Day to day? Go3. Shoot and edit/compose later? the X3. None of them will replace my R5 and none of them can/will replace each other. We'll see what happens when the GoPro 'whatever' 12 comes out.

I am looking for a camera to do car driving POV. I was first choosing between DJI 4 and hero 12. Then I stumbled up this camera and now I am considering it, because of how easy it will be to do my driving videos VS having DJI 4 or GP on your head. What would you suggest? I also have an old Sony action cam. Does go 3 actually lasts 30-45 minutes recording? on 64GB, How many hours of video would a user have, or is it better just to pay $30 more and go for 128GB.

Great comparison David. Totally agree that these are not direct competitors. Although Insta360 marketing tries their best to push that idea:) I think Go3 is a great option to capture memories when image quality does not really matter. Old VHS had much lower quality - but we still enjoy watching old family videos:) With that in mind I think comparison with GO2 is more adequate. And in this case for me (I own both) GO2 is a clear winner with 200$ vs 400$ price tag. Image quality is almost the same. And I don't really need added features of the new Pod, since if i start thinking about composing a shot and changing modes - I switch to GoPro or other main camera to bet a better picture quality.

Dave I watched all your vlogs about action cameras especially the comparison ones but recently ( through no fault of your own ) it doesn't really matter because the cost keeps going up and up and us normal vloggers can't buy these cameras every year ....cheers fae Scotland mate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My concern is battery life. With the GoPros I can bring a lot of batteries, with the GO 3 i have to charge and wait.

I just bought the Dji action 2 yesterday but don’t really like it. And it over heats quick 🤦🏻

Looks to me the use case is similar based on this video. However, other factors may enter that differentiate them, such as battery life, recording length, overheating (I'm looking you GoPro), attachment ubiquity, focal length, waterproofing, salt water resistance, etc.

I'm sending back my 2nd hero 11 mini. First one bricked and now this one died because it has an sd card error and doesn't see the sd card. Hero 11 is better image quality but I have had no issues whatsoever with the go 3

Did I miss it? Battery life?

The Go3 seems to be competing more with the DJI Action 2. Small enough to not look silly on a hat. If the Go3 was dark grey or black it would be more stealthy on most clothing

They sell cover skin stickers for the go 3 that turn it black, grey, you name it for a couple bucks.

David, can you tell me on the 360 Go 3, how far you can separate the camera from the mount controller and it still stays connected and operable? Example: Could it work like a for a back up camera on a truck hooking up a trailer?

They aren’t even for different people, the go compliments any set up, especially if the user understands lighting and angles.

Doesn't the GoPro have a quick snap-in mount thing? Not magnetic and not as nifty, of course.

They have the buckle mount bit, but only a few mounts accept that piece compared to the flip down feet or 1/4 screw

PS the Go3 looks too sharpened and contrasty, a bit like the Chinese action cameras that were popular on KZread 5-7 years ago. SJ Cam, Firefly etc.

Don't get me wrong, because I am intrigued by the convenience of the magnetic mount system, but we are also talking about a matter of seconds to unscrew a gopro to switch mounts... Not too big a deal, especially for the video quality you get from it.

Not true according to my use cases. The X3 is a good camera, but my max can turn out better quality video more often than my X3 can. Insta’s app is light years ahead of GoPro’s app.

Probably not for mobile devices. But I do care for 4K since I upgraded to 32“ screens on my desktop.

InstaGo3 had the better microphone. GoPro does have a controller.

I think you forgot to mention that you can use your mobile phone as remote control for your GO PRO 😊

There’s magnet mounts for GoPro and we’ve all seen you use them. Kind of nonsense for you to keep bashing GoPro for this.

I returned my Go 3. The stabilization was atrocious when I had it attached to the magnetic pendant under my shirt. I wasn't even running, and the footage was not usable.

That’ll happen on looser fitting shirts. The magnetic pendant is essentially turning your shirt into the mount, so the more secure your shirt is, the more stable your shot👍

Depends on what you’re doing. Pool, beach, in the surf, the GO 3 is perfect for, but if I’m headed out surfing, I would switch over
