A lot of ranchers use goose neck to pull their horse trailers so they don’t lose the capability of using the truck bed when they are not towing.
Thank you for the education on this ! I’m planning on changing from my 27 ft pineneer travel trailer to a appropriate size 5 th wheel to suit my ram diesel 2500 short bed truck and this video has been very helpful! I also watch JD from big truck big rv myself! Thank you !
I'm working on a 2018 Montana Limited now that has frame damage from a gooseneck adapter. Its about a 12k repair job. Dealer wanted to send it to factory were it will sit for months so they brought it to me and the front slides do not work because of the damage. front cap has to be removed. Do not use a gooseneck adapter. I get 3 or 4 of these a year in. I won't mention the manufacturer of the frames that mostly break due to using these adapters lol. Now you can put a gooseneck adapter on a 25 year old fifth wheels and tow it everywhere with no damage but not with these newer frames. Also slider hitches will eventually fail. A fifth wheel hitch with less moving parts will always be more dependable and that you should always tow with a LWB and long bed truck. It rides and tows much better to and you can make a lot more shaper turn without crunching your cab corners. Very informative video
Glad to have learned this thank you Matt and Wil. Glad you have something now to hook up your fifth wheel. Can’t wait to see it all hooked up. And you go on down the road.
Love it!!! Thanks fellas, keep these type videos coming!
Great stuff Wil and Matt, learned something new tonight. Would love to see a comparison on power RV steps in the future
I'm so thankfull I'm becoming an rver and seeing these videos first!! ❤thxxxxx
I'm on my second Curt 5th wheel hitch and solutely love it! Awesome review thank you!
Happy new year to Mat and will and everybody on Mat and wills team Always enjoy watching
I had a Curt Q20 hitch which was fine for towing but several times it was difficult to unhitch. I went to a B & W Patriot and have not had any issues unhooking.
Great job Will and Matt! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I’ve had gooseneck hitches as I towed both large 5th wheels and horse trailers (3H slant). Biggest issue I had with a gooseneck is that you can end up with “chunking” especially on roads with a lot of seams. But, if you have a gooseneck setup in your truck, go with ( the B&W Companion hitch. I did replace the gooseneck with the B&W and life was better. I think the companion is a superior hitch to other hitches, and one person can take the hitch in or out I. 10 minutes, or less. Hitch like the one shown here are just too big to manage in and out of the bed. Each has their own preferences.
Great video as always! I've seen video's of what a Goose neck adapter has done to the frames on 5th wheels. When I check out a new dealer when looking for a new RV I pretend like I have no clue what I'm looking for. It's shame but most or the many dealers I've checked out have ever asked me even the basic questions. How many people do you need space for, what are you going to use to tow it, what type of camping do you plan on doing? When I show up with a detailed list of what I want, I may as well have thrown it in the trash. There going to show me what's on the lot, even though it has nothing to do with what I'm looking for. I have a 2002 F150 with a 4.6 V8 and there trying to sell me 37' trailer.
Wished you touched on the comparison of the Reese Goosebox instead of a gooseneck adapter and I’m also curious on the comparison of that Curt slider hitch to a Pullrite slider that auto slides but overall, very informative!

Correct because Lippert DOES warrant a reese goose box.
Feels a lil intimidating think I might have mine delivered. Nice to see will getting the respect he's always deserved. Some people's silence is interpreted incorrectly. Will is just like my son, A gentle giant, meek and mighty, so smart he doesn't need to be loud or arrogant. Respect❤
Great, well explained educational video between the two hitch types - thanks!
Nice info, Matt and Will. I have a long bed and B&W 5th wheel. So just hook up and forget about it. ☺️
Very informative. Id enjoy a few more of these technical how to videos.
Good choice on that fifth wheel. It's locking mechanism is similar to what is used on commercial trucks. Did they ever mention about greasing your fifth wheel for safety or easier turning? I think you need some of that good old fifth wheel butter

I came to comments to say that thing need some grease
What are your thoughts on the Andersen Ultimate Hitch or the Pullrite 2400? Will Lippert really deny warranty?
Hahaha the Nike Socks reference thou this man is of the culture lol
Thanks for this! Been wondering and just hadn’t looked it up yet because we’re still a ways off from buying a fifth wheel
I FINALLY UNDERSTAND NOW ! MATT AND WILL I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU WHAT HAPPENS IF A 20 COME IN STOCK WHAT IS WILL GOING TO DO IF IT COME IN
Good video and good information. Thanks guys!
Wil and Matt great job on video. thank you
Good Morning Matt and Will. Love your videos. I see that Curt has a new fifth wheel hitch called a cross wing. Any chance you can do a review or provide any feedback. Thank you Larry
I had a B&W 5th wheel hitch which worked pretty good but the only thing I didn't like was I had to crawl up on the the side of tire to reach the handle to release the hitch locks. Very hard on the knees for an old man : )
I appreciate educational videos!
Great presentation Will.
I am looking to purchase my First 5er a GD 320G I have a SB F350 Tremor. I found out that Lippert won't warranty the gen y products because Gen y won't/can't give Lippert exclusive distribution. My choice is the Gen y goose ball 5" off set with the Gen Y Executive Torsion flex gooseneck pin box 5.5k. This combo will not only open my bed up but all save 315 pounds of payload.
The Anderson Ultimate Hitch is increasingly popular and seems to be a hybrid between the two?
Great information!
Thank you so much for this Literally didnt know goosenck and 5th wheel hitches were diff!
what do i have to buy to have your 5th wheel hitch
Great explanation. I’m wondering about your payload because I have almost the same truck but the Chevy version and my fifth wheel is 10k loaded, hitch weighs 150lb, and I’m right at payload. I’d imagine with your hitch at 300lbs, people inside, and roughly 2,300lbs trailer weight you’ve gotta be close or over capacity on that truck. Am I right or is my Chevy just an under achiever when it comes to payload?

Chevys are for going down the road, if you're towing go another direction...
Because your sponsor is Lippert can you do review on Lippert propane and temp sponsors by Lippert?
Great stuff. Grand Design is about to get a class action lawsuit for cracked frames not due to goose necks but actual factory issues. Thank God I did not buy an RV with a Lippert frame.
Where is this park? Looks great!

You need to give better description of gooseneck hitches other than saying its a adapter. The Reese Goose neck for example that doesn’t void your warranty.
To be fair, you didn't talk about changing the pin box to gooseneck. The pull will be the same.
I'm thinking these guys like to dine out...frequently.
👍
I have a dually. Shouldn’t it be called a 7th wheel?
I look down and I'm wearing Nike socks with under armour shoes.... 😅
Demco AutoSlider is about 100lbs and it is a lot heavier than that. lol
It's the kingpin not the pin box that locks into the 5 th wheel hitch
Will, you are very nimble for Floridian.
When I was hauling horses I always used a gooseneck because it freed up the bed of my truck and they turn better especially when backing. A fifth wheel hitch takes up your whole truck bed. If RV manufactures can't build a sturdy enough frame to handle a gooseneck I would not be buying that RV. Something else to check out while looking at RV's to buy.

Gooseneck horse trailers are built differently than an rv frame. Horse trailers have a more robust Gooseneck frame
@BarTGila
2 жыл бұрын
@@erod6214 A 3 or 4 horse slant with living quarters is put together much better than any RV I have ever seen so yes your are right. RV's are pretty much built as cheaply as they can get away with and are not meant to handle the carrying weight that a horse trailer is. A horse trailer is set up to carry 5K pounds of horses plus supplies. Still you would think the RV industry would build a better frame.
All this talk of stability, but the heavy use trailers (stock trailers, flatbeds) are getting the gooseneck. Go figure. Trust, there's never been a camper made that weighs what a 35' gooseneck full of cattle does, not to mention the shift factor. Give em too much space to move and livestock will show you what "live load" is all about...

If a goose neck is so much better for heavy weight why don’t semis use them?

OUCH, no cummins & no dually. All that hitch and a tiny truck... is there a goose neck 5th wheel combo hitch?

It doesn’t *have* to be a dually or have a cummins but that’s not a bad choice
thats not true because they have the new gooseneck adapter
Grease your poor dry hitch lol but nice video
Same thing as Mr. Calbaugh
lol, that's not 300 lb... lol
Tig ol biddies😲
Maybe you should just stick to reviewing RVs. I think you gave several bits of misinformation. You clearly aren’t experts at hitches and this should have been done by someone who is… maybe you should interview someone from Reese at the Tampa show since they make both types. Then take this video and throw it in the trash.
Awesome information, thank you!
Hahaha the Nike Socks reference thou this man is of the culture lol
A lot things are missed here. Unless you have a heavy load the 5th-whyl is overkill. 5th wheels cost more occupies a lot space in the bed Not easy to insert and remove if you need a function bed The advantage of the 5th-wheel it's quieter on the road and easier to couple.
