I can't believe you just shared, well maybe not "just", such valuable information. I was about to complete setting up my first sales funnel with Google sites. Okay I'm in similar situation 3yr later

You can get the naked url to work just fine. You can customize the url freely for each page. You may want to research your cons a bit better. One real issue is the lack of control of the height of images. Also adding an audio player that works across platforms is a challenge. Cheers.

Sure if you have a GSuite account but most don’t. Yes you can adjust the URL of pages. Never made the claim you can’t. My main issue is the lack of control over the on page SEO. Anyways, thanks for the comment.

Tell me about the redirection! I was going nuts for two weeks cuz I had purchased only a domain with the goal to forward it to my google site. Followed domain forwarding instructions carefully two times, and was getting the same error. I just checked it, and yay, it's working! :)

This content was very helpful I admittedly was/am feeling a little lost. In short - I was wondering if I owed the domain though a third party sight like Name Cheap could I just have that sight redirect to my google sight to bypass the naked domain thing you were talking about? In longer - I want to be able to direct people to my web sight. I am making a TTRPG and I want people to be able to find my web sight easily so they can download character sheets, maps, and other content they might need. I purchased the web domain name as soon as I as finalized the name. I was wondering if this could be a kind of workaround or if there is something I don't know that would prevent that from working?

This is one of the most useful video that I've seen in a long time. thanks so much for all you're doing!

sounds like it will be good for my uses. I needed a way to easily organize notes and information in a way that can be expanded and easily shared. Kinda like a mini version of wikipedia, but on a very specific topic for a small group of people.

Hi David, thanks for this valuable video. I’ve tried Google sites too and I’d like to know if there’s a way to add a section in the posts for “Comments”. Also embedded links open in the same tab when clicked, and there’s no option to make it open on a separate tab. We’re you able to add “Share Buttons”?

For comments, you can use a platform called 'HTML Comment Box' - they give you an HTML code which you can copy and paste it on your Google Sites pages

@@DavidUtke please do, i'm currently trying to decide if i need to change my small business page from google sites to something like zyro or gator. my page isn't showing up well on SEO and the page speed insights look like the load time is horrible (esp on mobile)due to all kinds of extra code that can't be changed either. The duplicate "home" page is still there and its screwing up not being able to set my homepage as canonical, which I'm guessing is messing up my SEO as well.

8:55 Google recognizes hierarchy but you have to correctly use the H1, H2 and H3 headings in order for Google crawlers to catch it.

The redirection issue can be solved through the domain configuration, which Google Sites clearly doesn't handle. Sure, they could implement it in some way, but it isn't in its scope of work.

when i share my site, it looks like a blue unprofessional rectangular box.

when add a domain to google sites does it come with SSL certificate?

Do we have to do anything else to be on search results with free google sites?

Menus…if not a page ( a different site) can you put it in the menu? Can you search across multiple Google sites in a domain without searching the entire web? I subscribe to Google suite….not sure if different.

I really like Google Sites.

David can you move away from a Squarespace hosted website completely and to a Google Site? Or do you have to keep the Squarespace hosting since my domain is G Suite domain is billed through my Squarespace account?

These are two totally different CMS. You can move away sure, but you'll need to copy and paste the content from Squarespace to Google Sites. A slow, tedious process depending on how complex the site is.

The video is great, although I suggest you either take it down or update/replace it to reflect the latest correct information because some of the information you provide appears to now be outdated and so could confuse viewers.

I do know it uses the storage from your Google / Gmail account, but I don't know if there's a set limit to the # of pages. I thinik he was saying if the site gets too large it will become unwieldy ?

I deleted my personal WordPress blog, used the domain for a Google Site then moved it over to Blogger where it exists today.
