Sounds like you have Data validation applied to the cell. How about just removing the Data validation or changing the settings on it.

@@ProlificOaktree thanks for the reply. It was pre-made for me to use so it has a bunch of background code and I’m so new if I delete things I could break the whole sheet. I’ll just put up with the red marks if I can’t find the answer lol thank you though.

Right-click and choose insert note. You couldn't do it in the cell because then it wouldn't be a date field.

Thank you for the informative short video Can you please tell me and how we add time like we did the dates? Plus, despite marking reject input if the date is invalid in the advanced options, the spread sheet still accepts wrong dates. Wrong date means ...the date that is not similar to the data entry date, as I understand. If so, how can we limit entry of back or future dates, and allow only the date similar to data entry date

OK - how do you leave it so the user can hit the cell, see a calendar - make a date choice and have one of the fields of that date be all that's shown - like the 21st or the year of that date ? Basically nest the @date so that it's return then gets stripped down to just the day the way the =day would do with a valid date ...
