This is exactly how you do an Ai event even though a developer event about 80% was for the average consumer unlike the Absolutely AWFUL Google I/o event that was 95% for developers & did not easily show the average consumer what the Ai would be used for & how it would help the user.
Your comment at 9 minutes is perfect. Apple is slow, but when they move they move, and usually they do it right. The amount of emphasis on privacy was so smart. Other leaders should take a note out of this. Only part where they missed is Siri having to query you before sending to OpenAI all the time. If a person is cool with OpenAI, they should be able to give permission for a period of time. Otherwise I was shocked to see that Apple delivered a great keynote and is on pace or further than Google and Microsoft.

This 💯 I think another prime example of this is always on display. Android has been tinkering with always on displays for a really long time, but Apple waited until LTPO displays could downscale to 1 HZ before releasing theirs. And my goodness they nailed it out of the park.

IMO, Apple has a really smart business model: they let Android spend their money on R&Ding beta features. And only after that experiment has proven successful, and the hardware is ready, do they release their version.
@Rockmirth

Agreed. But whenever apple releases their 1.0 feature android has had 0.8 for many years already! Then after a year or so they release version 1.2 and is above apple again. Apple takes too long time for me and if theyre gonna wait for everything to be perfect i already have a beta on android.
Which is why I'm never mad at some for waiting and thinking things through. It's not about the first to do it, but who does it best for their consumer.
5:42 the difference is that apple is known for their hard stands on privacy, and google and microsoft are data-selling driven companies, not only but thats a huge income part for them, that aside they have had so many law suits for not keeping their word on privacy or straight up lying about privacy that they lost trust for most users, apple was always about privacy and its paying off in this scenario
I gotta say that I'm definitely jealous. I KNEW apple's implementation was going to be cohesive and actually useful day-to-day. The AI features on Pixel are cool but I personally don't use them daily. Maybe once or twice a week? I really hope Google comes up with some AI features that are actually useful day-to-day for normal users and are not gimmicky.
Leave it to Apple to turn AI, into "Apple Intelligence". Genius. The funny thing is, I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max on my main line, and the OnePlus Open on my work line... And I barely actually use my iPhone... Even though it's on my main line. I'm just so locked into the big screen foldable form factor that everything else bores me.

Are Android apps built using a back-end processing front-end user interface to that scripting and automation interfaces can command the back-end of applications like Apple's are? I believe that's how Apple Intelligence controls applications - by commanding the back-end processing using the same interfaces that scripting uses. It's a more difficult and convoluted way to build an app but it pays off when you want to script or otherwise control an app's processing.
I got access to Gemini Advanced. Its pretty cool to be honest. Totally replaces the previous Google Assistant on my Pixel 8. The conversation is very natural and its also integrated into my messaging. I can maintain a running thread.
@Google keeps craping on it's users by rushing features that are half baked and then either cancel it or just throw more money at it. I am a android user but I am just frustrated with @Samsung and @Goole with the way things are thought out and launch products and software. For many years i've been fighting the Apple walled garden. Google needs a new CEO and direction ASAP if not I may just have to jump the fence and see f the grass is greener on the other side.
I imagined that Google would do Gemini better and then merge Google Assistant and Gemini. So, Google Assistant handling on device tasks completely secure and Gemini handling other ones. Apple did exactly that and I didn't even think of Apple doing it at all. The cherry on the cake is whenever data has to leave to the cloud for ChatGPT, it asks for permission and that's so neat.
As a Google Pixel fan since 2017 I can say that yes maybe apple did catch up to AI but we will see what else Google has in for us in October with the Pixel 9 and if not Google io 2025 it's gonna be interesting competition is good for consumers though
I have an iPhone for a secondary device & being that I've been fighting w/Siri which for damn near 15yrs was so-called "inproving" I'll wait to react.
Apple’s AiOS 18 implementation looks pretty sweet. Google still have custom routes in maps, so google is leading in that. The first to implement BitTorrent as the underpinning for media distribution and personal private cloud backup wins.
Shane for the ai security they did say that it’s end to end encryption and if your iPhone tries to do a task and the end code is not verified to be secure it will reject access to your iPhone. That being said I did notice how they worded it as the program has to be allowed to be verified by some type of open source program but yet didn’t specify it had to pass their standards. I forgot the time stamp of the video or I would post it.
Shane 🎉 You rock dude 😎 Love ya
It’s strange that they’re advertising type to Siri as a new feature. I’ve had my home button setup to activate type to Siri for years. It functions the same exact way for the same exact use case
I completely agree with every word and the general idea of your video
you can type to siri today but it’s a setting you have to turn on as a primary input method. so it’s good to see that it’s a more seamless UX with the upcoming updates to siri with apple intelligence
Some of the stuff was pretty cool. I watched the whole presentation. But there was a lot that is just android features with a bit more polish. The one thing Apple did mention is that all that info it needs will be handled 'on device' rather than cloud, aside from major problems that will require some cloud, but still keeps your info from apple's servers and encrypted to the silicon chip somehow.
First off another solid video bro that being said it was really really good but it was to be expected because that's kind of what Apple does you said it yourself they're kind of the ones to sit back and get a whole view of the scene before they make a very strategic big move. But what can potentially put them ahead of everybody else and I thought this was really interesting is they support their devices their older devices for longer than anybody else Google for instance just bridge that gap with their newer Pixel 8 lineup to where now they have that 7 years of support Apple has been doing that since the iPhone 6 and newer and even further still they're really affordable older iPhone or iPhones rather like the XR and the 11 will be getting the latest software that includes these features that is where I feel like Apple has the big advantage here because for a lot of people when you get iOS products it's not so much about getting the latest and greatest it's about getting what you can afford that you still know is going to be covered by the software that they're pushing out. Wow I made this comment longer than I wanted to anyway have a good one I'll catch you on the next one.
A lot of the things that Siri does that is personal context is happening on device. Also the photo generation is also happening on device. I wish that google would have added Gemini capabilities to the assistant rather than having people chose between the two. I think Apple’s AI will be more helpful to the user and will work better and more trustworthy and transparent than Google’s AI. I was hoping that Apple couldn’t come close, but It really came close.

You can use assistant to open photos of specific people. I can't say better. I've been using AI in Google for a while. In messages, summarizing in certain apps, call screening, etc. Google and others do things on device. Apple basically said they have to send things to the cloud as well but tried to make it seem as if the cloud they are using is more secure when they are more than likely using googles or Microsoft cloud servers for it.
Apple may look polished but they are way behind Microsoft and Google. This is a case where they can have more developers but fail because they don't have enough chips. The Nvidia chips are hard to get in large quantities.
I was confused as to why they mentioned type to Siri. That feature has been there for a while.

Well for one Apple Intelligence isn’t taking continuous screenshots (yikes). Another major difference between Windows Recall & Apple Intelligence is that Apple has years & years of built up trust with its customers. Apple for more than a decade has been emphasizing their privacy features & what they do to protect your data. Most Apple users don’t have any fear of Apple sucking up their private info, selling it or using it for training models. The same cannot be said for Microsoft & Windows.
Gonna be a real interesting race between apple and google. Few things i havent seen mentioned so far: 1. Most of the stuff they said thus far are only promises. The closest to a real demo was the siri presentation and it frankly wasnt really impressive. Generally gonna be interesting how capable the actual model is and how good it develops over time 2. Apples Intelligence is still quite far away. This fall there will be an english only beta which might take a lot of time till official full release 3. Im highly sceptical about results in different languages. The improvements to text recognition and Siri in the past years were super bad in anything but english. With an LLM i feel like huge improvements would be needed. Generally i think we currentely see two different approaches with the same target. Apple builds an AI model specific to the tasks they want to add while google builds a super versatile, much more capable general LLM and work on the usecases afterwards. Gonna be interesting which of these wins in the consumer space in the long run.
One thing I thought was cool is Apple's open-sourced mindset to the AI servers it spins up, which allows public access to verify its claims about privacy.
Only iPhones with A17Pro chip onwards and only in English. And more complex stuffis delegated to ChatGPT and more AIs in the future (probably Gemini as well). Still lots to catch up.
And yet, something I do with my phone every say 20 seconds, universal back gesturing, is WAY more important to me than fancy AI trickery
Apple is good at copying others ideas. You used to get in trouble for doing that in school!

So you are not giving Apple any of your data. Everything is processed on device, and if at any point it needs ChatGPT it prompts you to allow that particular query to go to OpenAI. That implementation is also extra secure by running only on Apple servers, inside Apple owned datacenters, with Apple silicon, fully encrypted and discarded after that particular query has finished, so no data is ever stored, AND all of this can be audited by a third party security firm to confirm it works as designed. Apple never sees any of your data, they don't have access to it, they cant decrypt it, they went even as far as building out their own datacenter with their own servers just to run the query that requires larger language models that the phone cant run itself. Its a very different approach from Microsoft and Google.
@scaryifliteral

I totally get what you're saying and you're basically dead on, but I'll throw out this caveat. It's not that different from MS or Google because they are both also using a mixture of on device and in the cloud computing. Several things on Pixel 8 run locally, granted it's not being used as much as what Apple is using it for. Microsoft's much maligned Recall feature also ran locally and precluded any data going to Microsoft. I guess my point is you can't just say "it's on device, therefore it's secure." It's always more complicated than that. I will say from what I can tell Apple is doing a lot right to convince people that it is indeed secure though. More than anyone else for sure.
It looks pretty good , leading up to the event some of the usual apple dudes did say , apple was making a big effort to make quality of life AI features on the devices , and this is what needed to happen on apple devices. Some basic stuff it appears will come across the board , but the way i read it , a lot of the AI features might be on the later model hardwareonly , i could be wrong though. I have an iphone 14 pro max, an ipad air4 , and an M1 macbook pro , i think my MacBook will be the only apple device i have to be eligible for the good AI stuff. But hopefully Siri will still have some improvement on the older models. No flies on apple , you don't get the full suite of cool features unless you upgrade your old gear😂. To be expected though I guess 😊.

As someone who actually likes and uses both, and switch between them constantly (well not as constant since apple went esim only) I can say that I have my pros and cons on both sides. Though I'll admit that I have way more cons for iPhones than I do with android devices, and no it has nothing to do with customizability, it's more that for an iphones we have to do more steps to do a specific function whereas it's quicker to do said function on an android. For example, turning on your hotspot. On Android we swipe down and we tap the hotpot icon to turn it on. For apple we swipe down from the left, press and hold the folder that has the hotspot icon in it, then tap the hot spot icon to turn it on. I know that's only a couple more steps, but it's a couple more steps that realistically shouldn't be a thing, and yes I know we can tell Siri to do these things, but still. This Apple AI sounds like one good decision, but doesn't help me forgive the other decisions Apple has and is making... Like for me the action button is stupid, they could have programmed that function in the power button like how android does, and next they're adding a shutter button to the next iPhone.... WHY?! I understand why it's on the Sony phone, that phone is designed for photography than it is anything else, an iPhone isn't designed for that, so a shutter button just feels stupid.

Don't forget about the Samsung Galaxy 24, particularly the Ultra. Sure, much of the AI on that phone is Google, though some is Samsung, and some of it is gimmicky and half-baked, but some if it is really useful and not a bad first try. And, much of it is performed locally and securely on the phone. Hopefully, Samsung will continue to build off it. Honestly, I'd prefer Samsung to partner with Microsoft and get Bixby infused with CoPilot and actually reinvigorate that heretofore worthless assistant. Some of what Apple is doing here is catching up with the summary, formatting, and chat features on the Galaxy S24, and, of course, some of it is way beyond what Samsung has done. If nothing else, this really underscores why Microsoft never should have given up on their own phones. I absolutely will not give up my physical Sim and ability to swap out phones so I will keep using my iphone 13 pro max until it's obsolete with updates then say goodbye to iphones. Eventually the easy swap will come. I'm told Verizon may be introducing shortly. Swapping esim between Android devices is supposedly easier. I hance a pixel fold and an iphone 15 pm. I swap main lines regularly. It usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Even still it's a pain, though a little one
In short, still not into AI, where it be Apple, Google, or Windows. Just a big no thanks. They can push anything they want, but if I don't have to, or need to, I won't.
I have a Samsung S24 . And it's AI seems a gimmick compared to Apple.
Siri: tell me what privacy iPhone has over other phones.... Siri: none
This is what Apple does. They seemingly let everyone build stuff, they then look at how to make it better, then they implement the better experience. It's like they actually pay attention to people's gripes and then work on ways to fix them. Unlike Samsung that will most likely now have 4 generations (with the fold 6) of Z Folds with the same camera setup. Just wait until Apple brings out a folding device, it's probably going to blow everything else out of the water. And I'm with you, i strongly dislike Apple. I tried the iphone on 3 separate occasions and i just can't do it. But you gotta admit, they make great hardware and software if you can stand it. My kids have ipads that are about 8 years old and still work like they did on day 1. Battery still lasts several hours of SOT, no lagging. They're great, for them.

I went from my iphone 4 to that phone and immediately returned it and got a Motorola Droid.
As someone who has an iPhone 13 Pro Max thanks for leaving us behind Apple. 😂 honestly curious how well Siri will be utilized on the older models. For context if you didn’t know only the 15 pro and pro max will get AI and idk if that means only the pro models going forward too?

Android has consistently set new standards for innovation, and I am impressed with how Google seamlessly integrates these advancements. As a result, I will remain loyal to Android. While iOS enthusiasts may find this news exciting, Android users have already enjoyed these features for years, and Google's implementation on their Pixel devices is unmatched. I understand the influence of Apple's marketing and the widespread admiration for its products, but I urge you to reconsider your enthusiasm for Apple. As an Android user who has used both Android and iPhones, and current on a Samsung I'll explain it to you, even though Shane already explained it in the video. What Apple is doing with AI is far more polished than what Android AI did. Sure a lot of AI features are polished now, but a lot are also still very glitchy. Apple took their sweet time working on their AI as well as partnering with chatGPT which has been doing AI a bit longer than Google has.... But basically unlike how Android rushed their AI out, Apple didn't even though they could have when they released the iphone 15 pro/pro max. Also far as innovation goes, let's not forget that if it wasn't for Apple, we'd still be using smartphones with a small screen and a physical keyboard. So while you are a Android purest, that's cool, but gotta remember that Shane and a lot of us out there are "Tech Enthusiasts" and we love and get excited about all tech.

@@hobbitpsi Although I respect your views as an Apple enthusiast, I have to disagree with your assessment that Apple consistently innovates by observing and refining the work of others. While Apple may introduce new technologies after other platforms have taken the lead, I believe Android has shown exceptional AI capabilities that match or surpass Apple's efforts. Additionally, Apple's recent AI demonstration highlighted their potential, but I remain doubtful that their products can consistently deliver the same level of performance in real-world settings. I think Apple's marketing prowess is often exaggerated, and their influence among technology enthusiasts can lead to an inflated perception of their dominance. While Apple's financial success is undeniable, I maintain that Android stands as a competitor with considerable strengths in AI development.

I had the iphone 14 pro, but then went to the Pixel 7 pro, Z flip 5, and now the s24. Now that being said, you keep saying "Apple's AI" but when you look into it, Apple isn't the main one on the AI, they are doing like Samsung and just adopting their AI from someone else, namely chatGPT. And if they're going with chatGPT then it should work pretty well considering the strongest thing Apple does with software is optimize it to their devices. It's only been recently that Samsung started fully optimizing their devices as seen from the s23 and s24 models, and while I absolutely love Pixels, they haven't gotten the optimization down fully yet, but I blame the chipset for Google's shortcomings, which hopefully, if the rumors for the Pixel 10 are true and they're finally ditching the Exynos variant that they've been using for the Tensor chips, then it'll be much better. Now all that being said, I'll give Apple the benefit of the doubt however, until Apple copies Androids feature where the assistant can answer calls for me, I more than likely won't even give it a try as that one feature for android is one I use a ton. lol
