I'm a little disappointed that the charging port is still soldered. That has not changed since the P6, and although I've never had an issue with the charging port on my P6 (or any phone really), that's just another step in the reparability direction. The natural progression should be the orange that was around the other parts in this device. I like the whole 7-year thing, now they just need to make a phone you'd want to keep for that amount of time. I'm on a 3-year cycle myself, up from my previous "gotta have it" every year cycle that ended with the Pixel 3 XL. I have the P6P waiting on the Pixel 9 series, that orange would be sweet!!
hey man, congrats for the video. I saw that battery as you cracked the phone wide open and I couldn't stop wondering if that battery can be safely replaced. If you're talking about the battery in the pixel 8 itself, then it's not the easiest to replace, no. First off, if you just want to replace the battery, you would need to get the screen off first, and even though Zach makes it seem easy, if you do it yourself (or even some less-experienced professionals) you risk breaking the screen in the process, which would set you back 235 euro. Second, the battery is secured with glue that's quite strong, and unlike Samsung and Apple phones of late, the pixel doesn't have those "magic pull taps" which easily remove the glue, so you'd have to pry it out, which could possibly ignite it and most likely break it, but if you're only job is to replace the battery, I guess that breaking the old battery wouldn't matter. And if you really want a pixel, you could try one of those firms that offer a service where you basically buy a product that only ships to within Germany (for example) andin the check-out process give the company's adress, but off course your own name, and then the company ships your package to your actual own adress (international). It's a workable workaround that does seem pretty legit, but I haven't ever used it myself to be honest, and some of them also have a maximum value for the contents shipped, so I don't know if that would even work, but it beats having to travel to Germany and back, just to buy a phone, lol. Anyway, good luck!
idk y but for some reason i LOOOVVVE THAT GREY BACKGROUND AND SHIRT. so easy on eyes n less glaring
Thank you Jerry for suggesting the Bay color because omg I actually might get the Pixel 8 Pro in that color

Without it, the battery rattles in the phone. Companies could use small amounts of adhesive so it's easily removable and doesn't rattle, but they decide to go all the way and make it to where you have the chance of catching your phone on fire when taking the battery out.

The small dents in the back of the foil covering the display may explain why so many of us (myself included) are seeing bumps in the same locations on our displays. These bumps are difficult to spot, but if your phone has them they can be seen under certain light conditions and if you hold your phone at certain angles. I have reported the issue to Google and have asked for a warranty extension. There does not seem to be an impact on display quality on my phone, but I am concerned about premature failure of the display. RMA units that have been replaced seem to be seeing the same issue on the replacement phones. You may want to look at your display and report the issue to Google if the bumps are present on your phone.

actually a big brain move of google to make it open from the front, ive been wondering for years why they all did it in reverse. too bad the port is soldered, its always the first to go on my phones, despite cleaning them, they still fail to fast charge, then fail all together a few month later. +1 on transparent tech, although a copper colored phone would be epic! imagine the wireless coil, but as the whole phone 🤯

What's big brain about it? It's an extremely bad idea. What's more fragile, the back glass, or the front with a screen glued to it? Also if damaged, what's cheaper to replace? I have an Xperia 10 IV, easy to open from the back, as they use plastic for the back housing, and the adhesive is easy to open (and still water resistant), easily replaceable charge port, and fingerprint reader/power button is easy to replace as well. The perfect design. I have been thinking about the Pixel phones for generations now but their repairability is just so bad. They commit every possible bad decision with their phones hardware wise.

@@kosztaz87 the screen, by a huge %. nobody cares about a cracked back glass, the screen you look at all day long. that being the primary entry, will make it a lot easier to repair, plus waaaaaay cheaper, as most front screens today, are permanently attached to the whole frame, and comes as such from the factory, making a new screen repair cost almost the same as an upgrade to a newer model. now youll be able to get a new screen for a fraction of the cost

@@DecanFrostI had a Nokia 6 a few years ago, with the same construction method as these pixel phones. When the power button broke, I tried to disassemble it. And the screen got cracked when trying to remove it. So the £5 repair job that could have been easily done if the phone was opening from the back (ideally with a plastic back) turned into a £150 repair. @@DecanFrost Nice one. Then I will spell it out for you: suppose there is a hardware issue with the phone. You need to get into the phone. There are two different approaches to this depending on the manufacturer: through the back, which involves removing the back panel, or through the front, which involves removing the screen. Which one of these methods carries more risk damaging the phone in the process of disassembly? And if there is damage due to disassembly, which component is cheaper and easier to replace, the back panel or the screen assembly? I am actually eager to see how you are going to reply.
I'd go back to pixel phones if they got rid of the camera bae. Justake the phone that thick, add a larger battery and whatever else like a headphone jack or the rear fingerprint scanner, that was my favorite feature of the older pixels. My dream phone is basically a galaxy s5 with an old pixel fingerprint scanner on the back. And obviously updated specs, and a little lager.
