Google Pixel 7 Pro Astrophotography Review Part 2

Ойын-сауық

It's astrophotography time, again. This time we've got the right conditions to let the Pixel 7 Pro shine, so we can do an honest review. We're going to Gerlach, Nevada, to the same desert where burning man is held each year. That will give us the darkness we need, and a great foreground to use as well. Now I'm no expert on astrophotography, I don't know the constellations, it's never been a focus of mine. I'm hoping that the Pixel's computational photography will help me get some great photos, despite my obvious lack of experience in this arena. It should at least give me the best chance, outside of spending thousands of dollars on specialized equipment for the job. So come along to the black rock desert, let's see what stars we can find when burning man is not in session.

Nice. It's the best phone I've ever had to capture stars so clearly.

That's brilliant, love seeing meteorites leave trails...they're really exciting to watch. The magic eraser is a great tool to remove the star trails in the water if you don't want to see them. Such a great photo though!😎

It's hard to get color from the milky way. Because it doesn't really have much actual milkiness. The milk is the stars. But, there are planetary nebula (old misleading term) that are pretty big. Beginning with Andromeda, which is as wide as the moon, but you can't see it because it's so dim. I am going to try 5x on it when I get my 7pro. I got some rather decent shots of it with Pixel 2XL at 2x zoom. I say decent, meaning I could tell there was an oval cloud there exactly where it should be. Which was exciting! I could also just begin to make out the Orion nebula in the 2XL, so I am really looking forward to pointing the 7Pro at both Andromeda and Orion's belt sash with the 7's 5X optical zoom and much longer AI exposure to let in more light! 🤩

The time of year determines weather you get that galactic center core of the Milky Way. I have read it’s visible between March and October. The center core is not visible in the winter months. So the time of year is really important. Also the direction you are shooting is important. In the northern hemisphere the center core is visible in the southern sky . An phone application called photo pills is great for planning Astro photography. Hope that helps.

does astrophotography also works with just the pixel 7 variant? I'm not seeing anyone put out astrophotography using the base pixel 7
