The Pixel 4 & 4 XL were great smartphones with weird gimmicks that made them pretty bad value in 2019. But nowadays, for maybe $150 on eBay? Yea, that's pretty good, and they hold up better than you'd expect in 2023. Also, no Pixel 3 XL notch. (unfortunately)

The 4 was great. The radar made for superior face ID, but other uses of the radar never developed.

The 4 XL was my first Pixel after using only iPhones and Samsungs prior to that. Still have a lot of nostalgia for that phone, and truthfully, adding a fingerprint scanner alongside the Face Unlock and an ultrawide lense out back would have made the phone great even today. I've since moved on to a 6 Pro, which is a better all-around phone than the 4 XL in my opinion, but there's just something about the design and function of the latter that still has me thinking back on it to this day.

I love my Pixel 4XL. It’s amazing just how smooth it still is. I’ve never really run into anything that slows it down much. The camera I feel like is the best part of the phone (besides the display and face unlock). It really feels like a camera from just a year or two ago

Sold my Pixel 4 XL two years ago for a Pixel 6 and regretted it, got a 6a and hated it, got a Pixel 7 and 7a hated them also. Brought a brand new Pixel 4 XL a few days ago and Im loving every minute of it.

I for one like the build of the pixel 4 more than any other pixel build.

Still have a 4. Recently cracked the screen and will be getting another Pixel 4. I like the images are not over sharpened like recent models. I also prefer the colour. I tested a pixel 7 and the Pixel 4 took much nicer day time photos.

I hope you could revisit the Huawei P30 series. I think it would be interesting to revisit them specially because they are the last huawei phones with Google Mobile Services natively available.

I loved my Pixel 4 XL. I dislike large phones but Pixel 4 XL was an exception.

Have my daughter my 4,xl when I upgraded to a 4a, the 4a was alright but found screen size a little small, so I upgraded to 6a and use my 4a as a backup. Love pixels, originally had 2xl

I actually used radar a lot, especially in my car. Skipping songs - this is not the song i am looking for. Pretty nice, as in an older car I didn't have any controls on my steering wheel. I do miss my pixel 4 xl...

I bought the Pixel 4 back in Dec 2019 when it was on sale for under 600 and I still use it today. It was my upgrade from the Pixel 1. It's a solid phone. The build is great but I've had a case on it since day 1 so that doesn't matter to me. The camera is solid and takes great photos in almost any condition. This was the first Pixel to introduce astrophotography and so it still takes some amazing photos in low light. The telephoto may only be 2x but you forgot to mention the super res zoom which takes sharp photos up to 8x. But the video camera was poor in comparison to the photos. I have the 64GB and storage was never an issue because this phone still has unlimited backup to Google Photos, something which the Pixel 6 and 7 do not have. Performance is still good, never stutters or lags except sometimes in the camera. Battery life was bad when I got it and it's worse now. I have to carry around a battery bank when I leave the house. I don't tend to use my phone a lot outside, but when I do it dies fast. The face unlock works perfectly but I do miss the rear fingerprint scanner. I have never used the hands free gestures and turned them off to save battery life. Overall it's a solid phone apart from the battery and I am not tempted to upgrade to the Pixel 7, especially with the loss of the unlimited photo back up and no charger in the box. For someone who's interested in a Pixel 4, I think it's best to spend a little more to get the Pixel 5 instead. To me, that was the perfect Pixel. It's battery was 46% larger which solved the Pixel 4's biggest problem. It also trades the telephoto for an ultrawide which makes the camera a bit more practical. I think the Pixel 5 is the perfect Pixel to keep for the long term and still keeps the unlimited photo back up. One thing to note is that I think the Pixel 4 having a telephoto instead of an ultrawide was definitely made a bigger deal than it ever was by every single KZread reviewer. Everyone was more focused on that and the gimmicks like Soli instead of how it performs for the average person which is why a lot of you are surprised when it holds up so well. Coming from a Pixel 1, I found two things that it did slightly better than the Pixel 4. The Pixel 1 has more stable video than the 4 which is crazy because the 1 only used EIS while the 4 used OIS + EIS. Moreover, the P4 display looked washed out, even on the adaptive setting. The Pixel 1's adaptive setting was noticeably more saturated. This came as a surprise to me because I watched countless videos on it before buying it but literally nobody mentioned it. Again, it goes back to focusing on the wrong things. But overtime I got used to the Pixel 4 colours.

Watching this on one, picked one up a few months ago for $150 Google refurbished on Amazon. The phone i recieved was brand new and so far it's been great

I am from Egypt, still use pixel 4, though I face some glitches in the software itself repetitive but not most of the time, freezes, after you turn off the device, it returns back home to be fine❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

Still rocking my 4 XL today. A lot of the issues that were present on release were fixed with updates. I recently switched out the battery and it feels like new again. I'm planning on keeping this phone for at least another year. I just wish it got Android 14 but that's pretty minor.

I am watching this from my Pixel 4a 5g. Best 115 dollars I ever spent. Get my updates start of each month, and man this phone has just been very very stellar. I don't need an update, however since I been using this Pixel, I definitely am not gonna leave this eco system anytime soon.

Only the 5G version of the 4a is getting Android 14.

The radar isn't actually used for the face unlock unless you approach the phone while it's across the room, in which case it preps the sensor. Under normal use it's just the standard infared diode array like iPhones use.

I just bought used pixel 4 yesterday and its great i bought it for work because the application i needed to use for work isn’t available for iphone so had to go for the google pixel 4 and the phone is great for late 2023 love using it and the video review is great

I just bought a Pixel 4 off Craigslist for $60 as an emergency backup phone if something were to happen to my main phone. Not bad of a backup for a former flagship phone.

Im going back to the 4xl...that face unlock alone is incredible. I sent back my pix 8 and will get another 4xl.

I bought a used Pixel 4 and changed the ROM to PixelExperience, which gets regular updates and supports banking apps. The battery life sucks but its small size is quite convenient. I use it mainly as a streaming music player that happens to have a very good camera. I almost never use the phone and occasionally use the messaging app. My main smartphone is the Pixel 7, which I quite like although its battery life isn't great.

@@younglingslayer2896 The factory ROM for the Pixel 4 supports banking apps and Google Wallet contactless payments as long as the OEM Bootloader is locked.

This review of the Pixel 4 and 4XL, very Accurate! I still have the smaller White Pixel 4, when I used it as a daily driver, the battery wasn't up to par compared to the competitor Samsung S10e which I also have as well, I retired both of them at the end of 2021 and early 2022. Currently, because these phones don't get anymore factory Android updates, I use both of them as a KZread Music Player, I think the Pixel 4 manages KZread Music a whole lot better than the Samsug S10e. In regard to the Pixel 4, they have one of the Best Face Unlock even in low light situations the Samsung S10e needed some light behind it in order for the Face Unlock to work! I love the squeeze feature for Google Assistant, a very unique feature, too bad that Google got rid of it on newer phones. Also, the Pixel 4 and the Samsung S10e, were one of the last phones that were small form factor phones, easy to hold and to be slipped in a pocket. By far, this was my first Google Pixel purchase and don't regret it.

This phone had so much potential. It was one of those phones that felt a bit enthusiastic at the time because the features weren't implemented smoothly it just needed some polishing to be a "smarter" phone. I hope google looks back on this feature and cleans it like how pixel 7 was a well received clean up of the pixel 6.

The Pixel XL 4 is a great phone, sadly killing off updates actually didn't do a great phone justice. Just picked up the 8 Pro and haven't decided if it's worth the upgrade for 900 bucks. But one short my XL4 is my favorite phone to date.

You can still get Updates on it if you install a Custom Rom on it.

I love Pixel 4 XL. The face unlock. The speakers. I've always kept my battery between 80% and 25%. No over charging. No over draining. As a result, the battery health is still 100% after all these years. No kidding.

still rocking a pixel 4 since 2020 and i'm about to order a 4XL. i'm not into 5g either and i've found it does everything i need it to do. by the sounds of things, alot of people here don't like the new pixels and are going back... so i'm staying here

My girlfriend loved her Pixel 4 in orange. The only problem was, that it had 64gb which was at one point not enough anymore. She is using a S22 now, which she doesnt like as much as the pixel, due to fact, that die Pixel 4 was smaller and therfor better for small hands and it looked cooler! :)

I've had this phone for a year and a half ago brand new in the box. it's a very nice phone

The pixel 4 is still my favorite phone although I upgraded to a 6 5G later down the line but I still prefer the 4 due to the design and material used on the back. Felt more premium and good durable quality compared to back glass panels.

I upgraded from a 3 to 6a. Just doesn't feel the same and the selfie camera is trash in indoor settings. Just bought a $85 pixel 4 that I plan to use for my daily phone and I will keep all my secured apps on my 6a as a home phone on wifi

@@harveysimon3185 Try getting into Custom Roms on the pixel like GrapheneOS or CalyxOS. And instead of sim cards use a $100 T-Mobile device and add some form a sim into as a hotspot all the time. It helps prevent getting tracked onto your device since AT&T wouldn't answer questions regarding certain unique ID numbers that tell the company information about you. Sim cards are very dangerous in my eyes. VoIP numbers are a good alternative and very cheap. Never use Phone number verification. FreeOTP++ is a good app for authenticating but never encourage phone number in general. Serious privacy & security risk.

I had the pixel 4 XL and it was a great phone great camera, good software, but it has no more security update and the battery was getting pretty bad. Now pixel 7 and it’s even better.

Unfortunately the Pixel 4a never got Android 14 because it release during the year was before the normal Android release month. It was a good budget phone that got 3 years of updates so it wasn't a waste. Still have one in my possession.

*Recently bought an orange Pixel 4 for just AU$129 from eBay. Battery issues/reboots because it's only at 64% maximum charge. Will be replacing battery ASAP and will enjoy this awesome phone properly! LOVE it's camera!!* 😁

I don't wether it is the chip or the stock OS, but this phone is snappy af eventho it is already 4 years old.

My 4 was awesome, the side squeeze was great and so was the camera, but the battery life was probably the worst I’ve ever had by a mile, so it didn’t last long

Just ordered a refurbished XL a couple days ago, hopefully this will serve me well

I still use my pixel 4, honestly its great only downside is battery but you can manage

i bought pixel 4xl and after 2years battery showed ? not 60% or 100% i replaced it then a week or so after replacing it the camera stopped working.!! in a month of the replaced battery it showed ? again so i just threw it away googled pixel 4 xl battery question mark so its just a problem from the factory like the xbox 360 red ring so i just switched back to iPhone got 13 Pro 120hz and at least i know its not gonna break down.!

Currently a proud owner of a Pixel 5. No plans to change it for the foreseeable future. (Also the last phone with unlimited Google photos)

Phones just lose there value soo fast its just ridiculous thats i never buy one brand new and never will . I just got the 4 xl a few weeks ago and love it i had the regular 4 few years ago it was the black one and i also owned the OP7 Pro aswell and they both were amazing phones i liked the pixel for the camera and portrait shots but i also downloaded the google camera on the OP7 pro and it did actually help the camera when it came to portrait pics tho. This time i got the white version and love the no fingerprints . I do remember at the time for some reason the pixel 4 wasnt working that well for the face ID and i didnt have no idea what is was . But now this phone works flawlessly.

My mum still uses my old one and it's still working great battery lasts her the whole day even if it eventually needs updating pixel experience rom is always there

So I had one as a back up. Gave it to my wife's aunt who had a Samsung j3 prime. she loves it. She doesn't need anything more. To her it's like having the latest and greatest

I loved this phone. The speakers were so much better than those on the 6.

debating getting one. Sold my pixel 3 because I had a motorola for internet & it gets amazing reception but debating trying a pixel again, maybe my specific pixel 3 was wore out which caused the signal drop not sure. You wouldn''t notice it in a city but rurally you need top notch signal, top priority far as a phone goes my second priority is GPU computer power & the Pixels are always great at that. Also the Pixel 4 is the last phone before they started putting the face camera onto the screen, which is annoying & ugly as hell. I'd rather have the top bezel & a smaller but more durable screen.

If this didn't have the monster top bezel it would have been so much better and would fit in just fine these days.. other than the security updates. I wonder how much those actually matter. That face ID is fantastic. I just bought the pixel 8 and the face ID works great unless your in a dim/dark environment. The 4 is hands down better and as good as IPhone face ID. For $150 or less it's a great deal if you don't mind the big bezel and the lack of updates from here on out. Android 13 is pretty darn good though.

I am still using my 4xl

I bought a Pixel 4 XL used in 2021, and have been using it since then. It is great as a daily driver, except for the undewhelming battery life, and hence always need to carry a power bank during travels.

That matte back NEEDS to come back!

Looking to get this because the 7a is just too big imo.

Great device people that still have it know what's up.

Wish manufacturers made "I don't give a damn about cameras" editions, with no stupid hole on the screen, and no annoying bump on the back.

The new pixels seem to me slower than the 4 maybe it's the chipset but memory management is abysmal on the pixel 7 for me at least. The main reason I buy a pixel is custom ROMs being available which has allowed many phones from decades past to run the current versions of Android such as the Samsung S2 with lineageos. Edit: Flashed lineage on the pixel 7 and it infinitely more usable app don't constantly swap in and out of ram and the whole thing is way faster even the fingerprint is better.

Bigger cameras let in more light and take better photos and videos. Companies are realising that and making them much bigger than before. It's worth it imo.

If you know the smartphone, maybe you can tell me if it is normal if the back of the device is not completely flat. Fingerprint sensor is 1mm higher. Should it be flat?

@@mackmccord3743 No, I mean the area around the sensor. The middle of the back is here higher than the edges. You can check this with a credit card or anything like this. I ask me, should the back be completly flat like the 3a or is the 1mm a signal that battery stars blaoting up

Just upgraded to pixel 4xl 2 months ago in 2023. I Love it. ❤ My next upgrade may be pixel 7 pro for $200 in 2025. Save money live better. 😊 . Pixel 4 will not have android 14, it also doesn't have 5G support. They are no problem for my needs.

​@@mighty0914 never had that issue when I had mine. But the thing is , I read a lot of people are having issues with there display just going black randomly. That happened to me on Tuesday of this week. It wouldn't even turn back on when I held the power button and down button to restart it.

1:23 no, the Pixel 4a will not get Android 14. It launched with Android 10, just like the original Pixel 4 did, and ended with Android 13. Only the 5G model will get it ;)
