I had the Original Google Home WIFI and while it worked for awhile we started having issues after a few years of use. The units or nodes never moved however would start having quality issues. It was a good system when it worked. We had 4 of the google home units and no matter what they just wouldn't cover the distance we needed. Reluctantly, due to google not having ethernet ports on the back of the units for the 2nd Generation, we decided to try a different brand. We went with the TP-Link Deco X20, you get 3 Routers for $180 and I was surprised at how well they work. We also ran Ethernet backhaul to 2 out of 3 rooms and that has been stellar. If you have the ability to run ethernet backhaul to your google Wi-Fi or other mesh routers you should definitely do so. One of the abilities that TP-LINK has for our particular setup that google does not is the ability to turn off either the 2.4GHZ or 5GHZ network essentially forcing a device to switch to the other band. My main PC once I upgraded the WIFI card to a WIFI 6 unit ( Also from TP-Link) had a dramatic increase in WIFI speed going from 150Mbps to 500Mbps consistently.

Is this a standalone ISP or it's just a router essentially to connect to your modem?
The speedtest is not based on the Wi-Fi. It is based on the Nest router to modem alone. Do your speedtest via a browser and it will vary.

Even worse from modem-router-to laptop. Direct to modem 1200mbps all day. Insert google “pro" and half 700at best
Thanks for the video, Orbi still rules the mesh system.
My modem has only 1 ethernet port and i use 5 ethernet ports on my router. can I plug the main node to the router instead of the modem or will it cause some limitations?
Excellent review. Very helpful. helpful for a neophyte like me :)
I really need to know what you got that calendar/clock desk piece.
What modem did you use? Are you supposed to buy a modem separately?
Love your videos❣️
So nice to finally see an upgrade to these. Definitely the ones I would buy. Only thing I don't get is why they don't combine these with a mini speaker like the old ones.
@JohnOBryan
Жыл бұрын
They said it was due to people placing them in the home where they wanted a speaker vs where they would perform best as a router/mesh system. This impacted the system's performance.
Which Modem would you recommend to combine with the Google WiFi Pro - Wi-Fi 6E?
pixel 6 wont set this up? So you have to have a 7 in order to setup? After setup can older devices still use it aa a router?
Is there a way to access the settings from your browser? If not that's a little concerning.
How was it connecting other devices to the new wifi network? Did you have to reset your Nest Cam settings to connect to the new Nest Wifi Pro?
Thank you for your video. Do you get the Wi-Fi at an additional monthly cost through google?
Is there a second generation of this Google nest?
I would buy the blue version which would you get ?
This guy is amazing
Good video. I wish it kept the matt finish.
Hey Tim when connecting these units do I need to shut off my wifi network from my internet provider? That way I don’t have 2 networks transmitting at once

Yes, that's always helpful
If your modem goes down for whatever reason do you loose all local network connectivity? The previous generations network always went down which caused me to purchase a regular router.
@Ndlelex

I still use the original Google Wife. I have never lost local connectivity whenever my WAN's gone down.
Hey Tim... The internet speed test you did was from the router itself, so that was a wired test🙂 you have to use another app or website to test the speed from eg your phone.

Timmy Scho…..if I jhave a service like Xfinity and I’m using one their routers for my wifi, would I have to plug this into the modem and another Ethernet cable to the xfinity router? Or could this be used as a stand slone and I would still be able to use my Xfinity services (cable/wifi). I’ve been interested in trying one of these for a while now.

If you have a separate modem, you should be able to just plug this router into the modem instead of your current router.

Fact: "I do have the one set from COSTCO (4 pcs.) & the 3 different colors set from Best Buy, and I will tell y'all that it is freaking SLOW, even though I have 1 GIG internet with GOOGLE FIBER, period." I called and sent feedback to them since Friday, and it's freaking SLOWWW!!! I can only get 100 - 150Mbps with my new iPad M2 & Z FOLD 4, that have WiFi 6E modem, and even with wired connection to my Mac & Windows computers, I can only get 400 -500Mbps, but when I unplug it and use the NETGEAR ORBI WiFi 6E, I can get the 950Mbps - 1100Mbps (wireless & wired). The FASTEST MESH ROUTER in the market now is still the latest NETGEAR WIFI 6E. This is another BAD product from Google. Just get Netgear & Tp-Link Deco WiFi 6E mesh router.

I'm so confused as to how many of these devices I should get. I know that it says 2200 sq/ft but I have a current aaus router that covers the house but sometimes the external home products fall off. I thought mesh might help but also chatting with support I get advised I don't want to many because I don't want to cause congestion. The placements and configuring for a non networking person, I'm really confused as to what I need. As last time I tried to get a mesh network using orbi I caused my thermostats to drain because they were bouncing between mesh points. but also a known or discussed item on the orbi forums... So for. a use I would rally like to make this mesh network for roaming and such using a wired backhaul but kind of stumped and sticker shocked as to what I should grab because the larger packs get you the discount to make it friendlier than having to buy more later.... So I guess do I buy a 3 pack, setup one and then let it settle before adding others and then work with maybe family if they can use any of the extra points nt used for thier homes? Thanks.... - The confused! lol
Does this new one give the ability to administer to the router device via a web application using a browser? -or- can you only administer using the phone app? I have the older version of this router and only being able to administer using the phone app is the one major thing I do not like about this router. Using the advanced DNS or DHCP settings is a pain using just the phone app. What a pain.

Same situation here using older version. I was hoping they would provide web access and more control. Another issue I have is lack of control kicking devices off once joined. Its possible to pause them, but I would like a blacklist of method to cleanup.
I ordered this new "pro 6e" 3-pack units, tested for a week, and then I decided to return them. Speed isn't as great as my current TP-Link Deco X60 which is wifi 6.
Why I cannot buy in Australia google store?
Does it have speakers and a mic?
Hey Tim! We need a KZread redesign review from you!
Those points don’t need a Ethernet cable connection?
Are you able to tell what band your device is connected to and if so how?
@martin-samsoe

Yes. Go to the devices list, select a device and go to info tab. There you can see the band frequency, aswell as IP adresses, which access points the device is connected to etc. Unfortunately the information isn't available directly in eg the devices list.
Hi Tim, thanks for the nice explaination. Just to be sure. You said you can connect another device to the Nest Wifi for a wired connection. Could I add a switch on it (with 5 ports for instance) and then split the internet connection that way to tv, console, etc? Or do you think a switch might not work?

I got none of these prompts changing from Google Mesh to Wifi Pro, this is a pain.
Don't forget, it as a simple as connecting an unmanaged network switch to that ethernet port to get more connections.
Using the 5ghz as the wireless backhaul channel seems counterintuitive being that most things are on the 5ghz channel, not being able to force it to use 6ghz channel as backhaul is deal breaker.

That's part of the reason I'm ditching Google Wifi (in addition to not having an actual bridged mode), but honestly it's way more fun to just build my own router 🙃
Why doesn’t mine show the gaming in the preferred activities????
Easy to set up - what about security ??
can i use it from india??
That glossy finish looks cheap. Wall/ ceiling mount will look off with this one. Prefer the last 2 designs, nice functions though
I wouldn't use it, but not too shabby. I need external antennas and one gigabyte speed over the air period.
So I don’t have Internet and my spectrum Internet is off. I can use the Google Wi-Fi without the modem.
After my (and hundreds of other users) horrible experience with the previous Nest Wifi system, botched firmware updates that broke speeds for almost years at a time, i'll never use another Google router system. Switched to Orbi and haven't had to think about my router since.

I wonder why apple stopped making their WiFi routers. Google now took over the market.
😍😍
It is 4g Or 5g
Had previous and got faster speeds than with this setup. I had three nest google mesh pods. And now have the three of these. Used to get 850+ down on a 1200mbps plan over Wi-Fi to IOS. Now can’t get over 600mbps with these “pro” devices. Ymmv but I’m not happy google…..
3 Ethernet ports. That’s all. 2 is not enough. At least 3. Apparently too much to ask. Good video, though. Great summary of the features.
