Just consider that these corporate AI's will be ratting you out to their corporate master about everything you do, down to the minutest minutiae. There is nothing 'free' here: it is a corporate grab for the very core of your personality, An AI assistant is awesomely cool, providing it is on your side, and to that end, consider looking for independent companies in which the AI is created outside the grasp of corporate giants. For sure, you'll have to pay out of pocket, but the AI will be yours, not a corporate tattletale.

indeed open ai videos were mindblowing, but google gemini is very very close in all the tests to chat gpt engine, and google has youtube and entire google engine to work with, they also make smartphones, earbuds and smartwatches now, not to mention google home, their ecosystem might even be more insane in future than open ai stuff that focuses in AI alone, while google does all the things at once, they also started later with ai stuff than open ai

@@NostalgicMem0ries yeah. but I still can't use the good gemini models. the *very* new gpt-4o I can use right now. OpenAI announces releases, Google announces shiny promises (they tend to break). So it doesn't matter what Google builds if they continuously fail to actually deliver it and abandon what they managed to deliver 2 years later.
Its basically the same as the OpenAI Announcment but more corporate

Well tbf Apple presenters these days sound like if they're AI too, that iPad launch was just painful to watch "So today we are launching the iPad air and the iPad pro which ironically is lighter than the air (?)... and we've made them thinner... which noone has ever asked for... cause making something thinner and more fragile is obviously better than increasing battery life or improving hardware. And also our new chip is 50% faster!! (than the one we made 2 generations ago)"

This entire keynote was the equivalent of Microsoft announcing a new version of Microsoft Office. A bunch of little features that ultimately are worth less than the sum of their parts. Not the event of a frontier AI company, or even a company that has any focus.

Also, yesterday's OpenAI announcement consisted ONLY of Apple phones, tablets, and computers. And the new desktop app is only for MacOS for now.

The thing is, what OpenAI worked on since years and released, Google had this tech, all along. They never released it to the public. Now that they have the push and competition from OpenAI, they are quickly releasing one by one to the public since the last one year, which they should have done since long back. They would have had the crown of the most innovative tech company. But now, OpenAI has the crown instead and Google looks like it is always playing catchup.

tbf google is sitting on a massive amount of proprietary tech, most of which will never be useful comercially. Predicting that the transformer model architecture would be the next big thing if you just throw billions of dollars of compute at it was pretty much impossible before the transformer paper showed that potential. It's kinda like saying that people should've bought apple stock in the 90s even though they had lost 80% of their market value. Very easy to do in retrospect, idiotic at the time.

The same thing basically happened with touchscreen smartphones. Apple wasn’t the first company that invented it. It also happened with GUI operating systems. IBM invented it first, Jobs and Bill Gates copied it and came out with it first.

Being innovative is a hit or miss in the tech industry(LG and Sony in the phone market say HI). I think OpenAI had a great product and released it in a good moment. From Googles perspective, why create a chatbot that gives you the answer directly, when the user can spend time reading 3-5 pages and watch their ads which makes them way more money this way. Google currently is doing a good job to stay right behind openAI in this field, and when the right moment comes, they can even surpass them because google has more resources and probably better minds. But tbh I do not see a big reason for them to try so hard to be leaders in this field. They develop just enough, so their environment can have good AI assistance.

The only interesting thing here is the pun at the end regarding someone invariably counting the number of times AI was mentioned during the presentation. At least that got a giggle out of me. If OpenAI truly is in bed with Apple now, Google is SCARED.

OpenAI has a huge amount of funding from Microsoft. If anyone is 'in bed' with OpenAI, it is now, and has been Microsoft all along. Apple is the one who's truly playing catchup here, and latching onto anyone not named Google who will help them elevate their ecosystem.

However, when you look at the announcements made by Google and OpenAI in the last few days, Apple’s move to sign with OpenAI to bring Siri out of where she’s been forever and into the modern AI fight, they made an incredibly strong move. Apple needed something and they needed it quick. Even if this was a temporary partnership, it was incredibly strategic. It will give them the time they need to catch up too.

3:11 I’m all for language changing with usage but I’ve never understood the gravitation towards reading “4.7x” as “4.7 Ex” as opposed to “4.7 times”. I always understood the “x” to be the mathematical multiplication operator, not an actual “x”. To me, it’s an equivalent situation to read “5+” as “5 Tee” rather than “5 plus”.

It would be nice to have the ability to twist around showing the AI your surroundings a bit, so when you want to expand a picture at that location it could expand with real-world info.
Interesting announcements but we definitely need to put them to the test to see how they really compare. If the public gets access to Veo before Sora, that will also be relevant.

We want google assistant with AI on phones, laptops, watch, and tablets regardless of what operating system they are running
Why does cloud run still take so long to start up, why isn't google the market leader using firecracker vm technology for near instant start-up times. It just doesn't make sense. If the creator of lightweight containers can't get it right and lead the market with cost and cold start speeds then why would I trust or build on your cloud at all? You don't lead in anything cloud related. Neither does AWS for that matter.

It's funny because I think the Developer Keynote was significantly more interesting as a developer, given the changes to Firebase and their IDX cloud IDE
Now to wait a few days/weeks and find out which of these demos were "aspirational"

Real. I signed up for the gemini 1.5 pro, and I don't have any of the above features. It's really cool without, it was even able to surprise me but still, not seeing the above features

Quantum computing is quite a ways out. Even when we figure out the basic physical challenges, that will have to be followed by implementation work. You may or may not be right about quantum, but I'd like to see one even approach its initial promise in any recognizable form before I start fantasizing about what they may be like together. We have absolutely no idea. And it may just be terrible and boring.
When we stopped getting scam by KZread videos and advertisement then we can believe Google Ai works sometimes

Some seem to forget on what platform they are watching this. Google owns half the internet. The fact you don't realize that is the reason they make so much money. Apple will decide who is the chosen one. My stupid iPhone is waiting to get a real assistant.

You are right, Google does own massive properties. This is all standing on the shoulders of the decisions that Eric Schmidt made. We wouldn't even have Android without him. And the idiots that are now in charge of Google, have finally gotten off their rear ends and tried to do something because of open AI. I'm telling you, that Google is going to dissolve into a Disney, or a Comcast... And the founders have no one to blame but their woke mindset and poor hiring decisions. 😥

Indeed. Consider that these corporate AI's will be ratting you out to their corporate master about everything you do, down to the minutest minutiae. There is nothing 'free' here: it is a corporate grab for the very core of your personality, An AI assistant is awesomely cool, providing it is on your side, and to that end, consider looking for independent companies in which the AI is created outside the grasp of corporate giants. For sure, you'll have to pay out of pocket, but the AI will be yours, not a corporate tattletale.

really good AI infrastructure brought into phones, I think in the future with more efficiency and better chips when trying to use AI to extract info about youtube videos it should look at the whole video and not just the captions, and it should work on everything not just google owned apps, so instagram as well, or X (instead of their built in AI models)
