Awesome guide, thank you very much. I know it works because I am using google chrome to write this message lol. One advice I would give is to watch the video first as you might not be able to find the "AppData" folder unless you tick "hidden items" in the "View tab" on the file explorer.

Thanks there's so many useless fixes on the internet that require you to actually go into the chrome settings despite the whole screen being completely black. Not only that I don't have to disable hardware acceleration unlike those other fixes.

Worked like a charm, thank you. Reinstalling the GPU drivers and Chrome didn't do a thing for me, I'm guessing because uninstalling Chrome still leaves the problem folder on your computer.

Mike, many thanks. My Brave browser kept on crashing my monitor as I moved from tab to tab especially if the tab had a lot of black. I cleared my GPU cache as you suggested. Bingo! (Mac Sierra on 2010 mac mini) Thanks!

The problem cropped up again a week later. I noticed just deleting the (recently created) data_ files (not the entire folder) seemed to fix the problem. Also, I didn't need to restart the computer, just restart Chrome (which was good, because I was in the middle of a Zoom meeting). So this seems to be a quick fix, which is great - but do you have any idea as to what might be causing it so the cause could be corrected (rather than just the symptoms)?

generally it is related to corrupted shader cache and if a graphics driver is updated this sometimes will cause it. this is the most frequent reason it seems

Yeah I tried via promt command method it didn't work said cannot find path. This all started when I simply just changed my gpu its crazy how chrome went bonkers... But ur method worked thanks!

Every time I close a tab or navigate away from a recently finished movie/tv show on Amazon Prime Video I get a black screen for a couple of seconds. I tried the fixes in this video and the other one you suggested but it hasn't work. Can't find any info out there, it's driving me a little crazy O_o

possibly but that is down to badly written drivers and googles lack of a auto reset option

it says that the folder or a file in it is open in another program and i cant delete GPUCache cuz of that

Unfortunately, this doesn't fix it for me. I never had this issue at all with my former 1070 TI but I recently upgraded to the RX 6950 XT and it started happening. In my case, the entire screen just goes black like there's no signal coming from the GPU at all. Turning the monitor off and on brings the display back but if I switch tabs a few more times, it goes black again. I tried turning hardware acceleration off and it fixed the issue but it kinda bugs me that I have to do this when my old gpu worked just fine with hardware acceleration on. I guess what people say about radeon driver being buggy is true

Oh I found a way around it. Open Task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and then find any and all Google Chrome tasks running, end them, and then it should work.
