I think I've heard Stadia can eat up to 20 gigs in an "average day of play" - so I can't wait to see Stadia destroy people's data caps in literally hours and totally be a worthless "investment" for all but a single day per billing cycle; Stadia will be viable for 12 days a year, and still cost exorbitantly more than a console or PC would at face value after a year of service, and a few games are bough; and that's not counting the fact that you're going to need to buy high speed, unlimited internet package to make it a viable alternative to a PC or console (and shockingly, most people in the world really don't have access to that kind of internet without restrictions; or if they have access to it, probably don't want to drop the equivalent of a full months salary to pay for it, every month). I think anyone who's dumb enough to get into Stadia is going to learn fucking fast what a waste it is when they have restricted internet for a whole month after playing Stadia once.

Not only individual data caps, but I wonder how much this Stadia methodology will drag down the performance of entire trunk lines of internet service. - - - Services like cable, Fios, electricity and piped-in gas are laid out a lot like the roots of a tree, and you the end user are sharing a larger root with a lot of other tiny roots. Given that a particular conductor or fiber has an upper limit on throughput, if a significant percentage of the users on a given branch are using a data-intensive service all at the same time, then depending on the settings in your service's systems, it will either bog EVERYBODY down, latency will be added, or the service will just drop people to bring throughput under the capacity. - - - I saw this when I lived in a new branch of my cable service, that at around 6PM, when people got on line after dinner, my ping would grow, my individual data speed would drop like a 1929 stock market, and even my TV signal would break up and drop. It also didn't help that a good number of the hookups to the cable were illegal sharing between apartments and even illicit hookups directly tot he line on the poles. - - - So to summarize, the more people using their internet in the Stadia methodology, the worse and/or more expensive the service could be for everyone.
The people who buy into this are the ones that wet themselves every time apple announces a new i-phone. shesh

@@Adam-tp6ch Not quite that bad. VHS quality is analogous to around 320p, (very) roughly speaking. To be honest, most data caps up here in Canada tend to be 500GB to 1TB per month. That means for any non-casual gamer, you'd probably be looking at 720p maximum to stretch it out, if you don't also watch some Netflix or whatever at higher resolutions. And if you're a non-casual gamer, you probably have a non-casual setup, which means you can already play games locally just fine and switching would be a downgrade, not an upgrade, in graphical fidelity. Sooooo...casual gamers only I guess, and even then, only ones with very limited setups, but they don't have a line-up of games that tend to appeal to the more casual crowd (I'm thinking The Sims 4). I will never use a game streaming service, I have a PC, and no online only service will ever match my PC's latency, because however low it is, it would be it would be added on top of my PC's latency. I will never game on a phone, or any other device than my monitor, I have a PS Pro, and the last game I played on it was Horizon Zero Dawn, great game, but it would be much better on my PC. Owning the games, as a PC gamer means (for me) using GOG's offline installers whenever possible, but more importantly, it's having full control of the games files, for modding them. Streaming, and sub services, take away that right to own the files, and owning them gives me full control over modding them, I'll stick to buying games for that control is vital to my enjoyment of games.
Don't tell them! Just sit back and watch the show :)
A product with no selling point doesn't get any pre-orders, what a shocker!
first the COPPA thing, now this. I wonder if they're related.
A tad bit of math. For 720p, you'll be burning 10 megabits per second playing assuming no connection to a server on a singleplayer game. Not too bad right? Well, this depends. Based on quick google searching, multiplayer games typically burn anywhere from 40 to 300 megabytes an hour. Not a lot compared to Stadia. But remember, that needs to be tacked on top of the streaming of the game. So another about 40-300 megabytes an hour for multiplayer games. So you'd be burning 4.6-4.8 gigs an hour or so for 720p multiplayer. Now, sitting at 720p streaming, at what point does streaming games overtake the bandwidth for downloading the game? (Assuming 4.5 gigs an hour here.) For Assassin's Creed Odyssey, we have 10.22 hours. For Red Dead Redemption 2, we have 33.33 hours. Mortal Kombat comes in at a measly 5 hours. Wolfenstein Young blood at 4.58 hours. Now, as times go, these are pretty short. Especially for streaming at 720p. Example being I saw (on a quick google search) a good amount of outlets stating that it took approximately 40-60 hours to complete the story of Red Dead Redemption 2. Even on the fast end of that estimate, 720p streaming would surpass the full download of the game by the time the story ends. This is not including any multiplayer or the myriad of other quests in the game. For those out there with data caps like myself, it's important to do math. Find this stuff out. This took me about 10 minutes to figure out. 10 minutes of quick google searching and data crunching to understand just how poor Stadia's service is for a data cap. I didn't even touch 4k bandwidth costs. I highly do not suggest touching Stadia unless you absolutely have an immense internet plan without a cap. Even then, I do not suggest any games that are PvP as every ms counts. Is it a good alternative to those who lack the hardware to experience games that they otherwise couldn't due to hardware constraints? Right now, no. The library Stadia offers is poor. Will it in the future? Maybe. Depends on how successful it is. Considering I have had the same hardware for about 5 years now, without a single upgrade, and still play all games at 1080p 60fps, I can't recommend getting a proper PC with at minimum mid-range specs instead of Stadia. It is a much better investment towards gaming instead of a streaming service.
It's a very Google thing to release a service with 70% of the work done, several important features missing, no content, very little support and actually expect people to give them money.
"Not owning my games" Disregard. NEXT !
would like for more games having no online requirement, having all games depending on the connection not for me
Thank you for source links in the description! 👍 I will say I'd be more concerned for MK11 over SamSho's latency. SNK has yet to do well on normal online play with forced frame delay to compensate for bad netcode.
Wait till Google finds out that the majority of their target audience doesn't have access to a fast enough internet connection- in fact, here in South Africa, I just found out that I have the fastest internet connection in my suburb- 20 Mbps VDSL(I am also the only person with this data plan)... There are no alternative ISP's in my fairly well populated middle class- upper middle class area either.

Google's trying to muscle their way into gaming. Sorry Google, there's no way in hell I am paying you for the privilege to access games. You're too evil these days and can't be trusted.
I just don't understand the point of Stadia. So you want me to pay a subscription to earn the right to pay full price for games that I don't ever actually own because at any moment I could lose access to my whole library forever? At least with Steam I could conceivably download my entire library to a hard drive and just play them offline forever.
why anyonne would pay a subscription on something so early as this is just amazing.
Yo are you gonna do something on how Richard Lewis blasted kotaku polygon etc at esports awards? It was beautiful
The GeForce Now beta has made me a believer in high quality streaming of games. But that uses my Steam library and still has some irritating limitations. (DLC and mods, for instance, need to be downloaded every single time you play, which sucks for games that work best when modded.)
They have to be crazy if they expect me to pay for the hardware, a subscription, and pay full price for all the games (including old games that are only worth a few bucks during Steam sales).
I thought the title ment that they were pissed off at their own product is releasing in a incomplete state. I was confused for a bit.

Game streaming still sounds like a bad joke. In the US, we still have large portions of the country with lack of broad band. Even where it's available, much of it is sub par speeds compared to other countries because our main infrastructures have been privatized, & the companies responsible for it pocket the government supplied funds for profit instead of building it up.

At the end of the day this is pretty much a luxury system. Not everyone has lightning fast internet and not everyone is going to pay 60 bucks to rent old games.
I ordered founders, multiple hours have passed, still no founders code sent in. :/
I get real anxious when people seem to associate Stadia with all cloud gaming. The tech is there and there are superior services out there, and I appreciate you mentioning them. Just want to also throw in Shadow and GeForce Now, which I've been using for all my gaming for almost a year now, since my desktop PC bit the bucket.
Google never made money outside of selling user data. They will use Stadia to create psychologic profiles and analyze your behavior and sell that data as well. They’ll get every data they can out of your savegames.
I think one of the biggest questions is are you playing competitive or casual because for me the input lag will probably be enough to not give it a second glance.
I really wonder who the target audience for Stadia is because none of my social circles have been talking about it or have any interest in it.
2018- incomplete games 2019- incomplete consoles 2020- incomplete concepts?
What is another word for a sucker? A Stadia.
I just noticed an icon for Orcs Must Die 3. I played orcs must die 2 as my first paid game on steam, as I was trying to find a game to play with someone. never got that far, but I had a lot of fun with it. I hope it isn't a stadia exclusive, but it looks cool nonetheless.
Stadia was doomed from the start. A console that you have to be online 100% of the time to "stream" the games you paid full price for. You cant even play the games you paid for offline. Ya thats gonna work out great for a majority of America who does not live in a big city and does not have amazing internet.
I literally haven’t even heard of it outside your channel
About the tech: Interesting. About the implementation, not enough infrastructure available, specially with datacaps and the relying on the "good will" of internet providers. About the library: below mediocre. About the pricing model: not worth of atention, specially with the idea of a full price for not owning a title in any way or form. And don't get me started on the constant rise on Google's fishy morale police. So... yeah... pass and win.
I think the main issue with Stadia, it's made as Netflix for games except you have to pay for service and games. Imagine you have to buy movies on Netflix to watch.
2019 is the year of "unfinished product". Stadia joins the proud list of Fallout76, Anthem, Epic Game Store, etc.
Can't lie, it's a good excuse to prototype some technological leaps in order to catch up on their competitors.
I really wanted this to be good. I hoped it would be the next big thing that finally moves consoles away from discs and PCs away from hardware chasing
I just had a sudden realization...... how would they handle an ip ban?
22 games? I have more than that installed on my PC right now lol.
Stadia needs a games pass like model.
Here's irony; @5:21 the video became really pixelated and artifacty while showing the game trailer on the left-hand side. Then cleared up when the motion was over. That is bandwidth-limitation over-compression in action. Enjoy all that Stadia adopters!
correct me if I'm wrong, but their extended launch lineup was just....most/all of the games they were going to release this year now instead of in a few weeks.
The first reviews already show that Stadia has slightly noticeable lag on a smartphone, but on a PC that input lag is close to a second between button press and the game reacting. So...yeah, clearly their "Negative Latency" tech isn't past concept stage. AKA a scribble on a napkin at the nearest fast-food restaurant. Who really expected it to ship with it, given nothing else is ready :P
I can confidently say that Australia is basically a no go for stadia our speeds just aren't high enough to warrant this kind of service with the best possible connection for residential use being 100mbps but you are lucky if it is available and if it is it's extremely expensive
Imagine...intentionally buying a game system where... 1. You don't own the games...but pay full price for the game 2. Depending on stable internet connections with unlimited data to game. 3. Trusting Google to actually back one of their products long term. 4. Trusting Google not to spy on you, your children, your dog, your next door neighbor. 5. Trusting Google...ever. Why would anyone be even a little tempted to bring this garbage into their home?
