    I had the privilege of sitting in a class with Dr. Don Livermore at the Whiskey Fest in San Francisco... it was definitely for the more geeky whisky nerd. We also tasted 6 whiskies including the legendary Lot 40 Cask Strength which is not sold in the USA BUT... a bottle managed to somehow magically appear at my house thanks to a couple fellow whisky tubers in Canada.

    Got to join in on a masterclass by Dr Don a while back and listening to him talk about how to pull different notes out of a barrel was crazy interesting, and drinking the about to be released new version of the Lot 40 CS proved to me he knows wtf he's going, since he took 100% rye whiskey and made it taste like melted french vanilla ice cream.... which was crazy to me, but I can't wait to get a bottle.

    I get why you reached for Lot 40 for the comparison, but it's a bit of an odd one nonetheless. Lot 40 is 100% copper pot rye. G&W Eleven Souls has five different grains (some malted and unmalted), copper pot and column still, and multiple types of casks. Different beasts.

    In the pronunciation, Gooderham, drop the h. Like, Gooder-uhm. Also, the history/story behind its naming is interesting. The founder, on his immigration to Canada, adopted 11 orphans. This run is thusly named. Also worth trying is 40 Creek. And if you can ever get one, Pike Creek 10 year old finished in port barrels. Kicks the rum barrel finished Pike Creek right in the bunghole.

    Tony Lastname had the chance to try the G&W 49 Wellington, Lot No. 40 CS aaand the Pike Creek 21yr old Olorosso Cask finished at the Spirit of Toronto spirits festival last May. The PC21 was an absolute revelation to what Canadian Whisky could achieve. Fabulous. The G&W49 superb and the Lot 40 CS lived up to its reputation. Wow. Dr. Livermore was presenting the tasting and his brief history of Canadian Whisky and its ties to America was fascinating. The Gooder’um story is a good one for sure, and is at the very beginning of our whisky history.

    One remix I like more than the original... oddly: Pet Shop Boys' remix of Bowie's 'Hallo Spaceboy' from 1995's 'Outside' album. Only a touch, because the original is still pretty sweet - very experimental album for Bowie, produced with Eno. Check it!

    Speaking of vodka, if I was to pour some into a barrel and age it, would it then technically be classed as a whisky or would it just be wood aged vodka? Anything that can be added to increase the whisky flavour?

  • @BelfryHex

    @BelfryHex

    5 жыл бұрын

    I'm guessing it would depend on how the vodka is made, Whiskey is made from grains (corn, rye, malted barley) but vodka can be made from a lot of things, potatoes, molasses (sugar cane), etc.. I'm sure there's a lot of other things, and laws which clearly seperate them into two different categories, but I'm no vodkalogist

  • @effgaagle730

    @effgaagle730

    5 жыл бұрын

    In the US at least, vodka has to be distilled to 95% alcohol or above which is considered neutral spirit, the whiskey classification requires distillation below 95%, so even if you wood aged a grain based vodka it would never be considered whiskey according to US law.

    The best hair is the hair you have, how you choose to wear it. And if you work around any type of moving machinery, a tight bun is better than a long pony. I've always assumed I have an ugly head and the mane of long luxurious hair is just there to hide it. I've got your low hanging fruit, right here, pal. I thought that's what the ice shorts were for.

  • @BelfryHex

    Well, if you ever tasted an American penny, it has a somewhat similar taste.. Assuming Daniel tastes his pocket change more frequently than he does drink blood? Also, I just found out that pennys were 95ish% copper and 4% zinc, and now it's 97ish% zinc and 2% copper, a complete reversal, so if you are going to try it, don't use new pennies.
