I love love LOVE that this movie frames Elton checking himself into rehab as a triumphant moment. It is! Deciding you need help to overcome your addictions is hard as hell, and the movie is rightly proud of Elton John for doing it.

The meaning of Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road. Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road is a symbol of wealth and fame, because Elton John wants to take back control of his life. He does not want the fame and fortune to define him, and prefers to be back to his farming roots where he can live a more peaceful life.

I love the obvious symbolism in this scene, Elton finally deciding he's going to get help no matter what the cost, but I also love the underlying force in in this moment where we see how having Bernie there really means a lot to Elton, regardless of anything he says or what's he's going through.

Something I noticed - Bernie's verse is very minimal with the music, and it's only on Elton's verse that the full instrumental breaks in. Think it's meant to reflect their song writing method? Bernie comes up with the lyrics, and then Elton puts them to music.

I’ve grown up with Elton’s music since I was kid and I’ve watched this movie so many times and it’s amazing how they used his songs in context to Elton’s life in the movie. “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” works so well because Elton was at his lowest at this point but he fought to get himself better and go to therapy and break away from his drug addiction. Elton John is someone who’s been through hell and back and he’s still here. We’re all lucky to have him. 💖 EDIT: I know the songs themselves are not in order as they were actually written. I'm meaning that the songs themselves worked in context to Elton's life story in the movie. Even if they were out of order chronologically, it's meant to work like a musical version of his life.

My original comment was before the edit... I haven't watched it because I know I wouldn't be able to tolerate all the inaccuracies. To me it isn't amazing to use songs out of order and relate them to his life. That makes it easy. It would be harder to do it in order... Having to admit that he wrote "I'm still standing" while he was still doing drugs. Then again he doesn't write the lyrics

I love it how he just puts on his glasses and you would think yourself if he is really saying to himself I'm tired I've thrown so many good people out of my life and I almost died but I need to get myself better and I need to stop being this way. So he got up with his glasses on got himself into a cab and willing to rehab and if you fast forward 30 years actually a little bit more than 30 years he has been sober he does not miss it one second he's about to be done with his tour he's going to retire that he's going to spend more time raising his sons and even more so he found love the right way he's not David furnish and they've had a solid relationship ever since and their relationship is far greater than anything that John Reed could ever have in the longest run Sir Elton Hercules John has definitely repented he's turned away from drinking drugs the advanced lifestyle as I like to put it and he's also turned away from a lovely life and he's also learned to forgive his parents and he got his best friend/brother back and he has been more happier than we've ever been in his life and I wish him all the best of luck into retires I hope that before the end of the year I'd like to mail a fan letters stating that he has changed my life ever since I was a child and I'm hoping that he will become a judge on The Voice because I would love to see Goodbye Yellow Brick Road if he is there.

I've already posted this comment, but since it was deleted, here's why I love this scene: I love how they change the order of the lyrics to fit who's singing at the moment. For Bernie, it's about him seeing Elton spiral out of control, his regret about going into show business, and him telling Elton he can always find another person like him if he decides to leave. For Elton, it's about him realizing he's spiraling out of control, how he didn’t want anyone to control him or his life, and how he's not going to let anyone treat him with disrespect anymore. Also, every time I watch the part where Elton walks out and the guy says, "Hey! Where are you going?" I say, "He's going to get help." That culminates with Elton getting into the cab and seeing the scene that opened the film, with Elton walking into the rehab center, showing how's gone full circle from walking in, showing us what happened to him that made him need rehab, to showing that scene again from a different perspective, as we can see all the addictions that Elton has dealt with in his life.

Elton had threatened to take a handful of pills & to throw himself in the hotel pool to which he's old Nan said - *_"F*_**_#k_**_ it! We might as well go home then!"_* 😆 To this day Elton will seek out the company of proper old Londoners!

I had the soundtrack to The Shawshank Redemption in my cassette player at the time and when I was walking out of the building I listened to the theme to the scene where Andy escapes. It felt great!! Peace.

Something I noticed - Bernie's verse is very minimal with the music, and it's only on Elton's verse that the full instrumental breaks in. Think it's meant to reflect their song writing method? Bernie comes up with the lyrics, and then Elton puts them to music.
The best part was the ending when he left the venue and went straight to rehab. Not only did he change the course of his life, but he gave that fucker John Reid a big-ass middle finger.
I recently finally started to get help with the long term effects of my porn addiction and coming back to this scene now gives me chills watching Elton sing and get in the cab to rehab

Loved this movie. Can’t believe that I didn’t watch it sooner. I just watched it 2-weeks ago. Definitely need to watch it again!

I may have newer favourite films now, but this one in particular will always have a special place in my heart. I love this film so much.
Brilliant film. Rocket Man. Love it immensely. x

I love the use of the Orcestra at the End of the song ❤️❤️❤️
such a beautiful song

Now I have a vape thing????? With no matches. I'm still standing dad.
At the start of the cocaine, brandy & his ego getting to him Elton was on a tour of the States. He'd flown his family out there to see him including his much loved Nan who was from very tough, no nonsense old London Working class stock. Elton had threatened to take a handful of pills & to throw himself in the hotel pool to which he's old Nan said - *_"F*_**_#k_**_ it! We might as well go home then!"_* 😆 To this day Elton will seek out the company of proper old Londoners!
I realised that the Twin Towers were at the background

It was probably a lot easier to enter rehab high as a kite than it would have been to be sober.
Wow
I write what is BURNED in my heart. PLEASE listen as these things of truth of LOVE are gone. No longer is right, RIGHT and WRONG. We can treat fellow man with such despise. We as man do not know the heart. Others may be hurting and we STIKE them at heart. Compassion is not of THIS common world. SEEK the right and leave the wrong.

There is way more to the title "Yellow Brick Road" which is also a well-known name for child trafficking... Rich people pay for these kids to do things to them, keep them, and share them with others. That's also what this song is about. Do some digging if you don't believe me. That has all since come out in all kinds of alternative media.
So he just leaves the theatre? What about the people watching?
