*Deep Breath* SO, here it is. The big announcement! I know it's going to be a big change to 'rebrand' like this, but I already feel so much better about it. It just feels so much more authentic to me. Sorry if I seem kinda low-energy in this, I am excited trust me! These past couple weeks have been stressful and an emotional rollercoaster so I guess I'm not very good at hiding that 😂 I love you ALL and I'm so excited for this next chapter! HERE WE GOOOO.

I am so excited for you. I just hope you know you don’t have to up how many videos you put out a week just quality. I think you could do two videos. I know a KZreadr who only does once a week and it’s still one of my favourite channels. I think you will still be able to do this and support yourself. I hope you just hear my heart here because I know how hard you work and I just wanted to tell you that it’s possible to do it once to two times a week and still be successful. In my personal opinion I prefer that because it keeps me pumped for when you do post next. I adore you.

Congrats on going full time! For a "thrifty" video idea, you could do an "anti-haul". Go through your wardrobe and show us stuff that just didn't work for you. Do you donate? Sell online? Have a clothing swap? Burn it in a celebratory fire? Make costumes for Frodo?

You could do a Frodo series, where every two weeks you make a little short of Frodo’s life. It would be so cute and a really good way to flex that creative muscle. Another thing you could do is take us through your home makeover journey with vlogs or videos taking us through little projects, like painting or organizing your little decoratory doodads.

Agreed! I said the same thing a couple weeks ago. "The Adventures of Frodo" would be uplifting, enchanting, and best of all, low-cost! The boy wouldn't even ask his Mommy for a salary! Whatever you decide, Rachel, you will do well. Benjamin Franklin and Geoffrey Chaucer said it best: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Or, to quote me, "Every battle leaves a scar, but that's what makes you who you are." So you go, Girl! You do not go alone.

This would be amazing! I love the idea of creating characters in regular vintage clothing. Disney and vintage would work so well together and she's incredible at cosplay so she could incorporate that to it also! I have a similar shade of red hair so I love finding awesome red haired female characters and she could do a fantastic Merida (could incorporate some great location/story type shots too), Rosalind Lutece (Bioshock), Ginny Weasley, Rose (Titanic) and I would love to see a vintage/regular clothing Jean Grey.

I would like to see vintage capsule wardrobe videos! You could pick 10 items from one decade and style those items in various outfits to show the versatility of vintage items. I think it would be a very creative way to use all of the clothes from your hauls and it would be fun to watch. Perhaps with some history of fashion thrown in. Very excited for this new change!

Video ideas that I would love to see: -Living room tour! All your little Knick knacks and baubles and vintage items, where you found them, etc. -Blooper videos are always funny and fun. Lots of silly frodo shots to come from those I’m sure ;) -more hair style videos!! :) I loved watching you try to recreate those vintage styles, and you can teach us some more of your tricks too -I personally loved the cosplay videos. So if you have more of those up your sleeves, then do it! :) -I know you’re not really a cooking channel, but trying out vintage recipes could be fun and interesting! :) or even if you have a family recipe that’s been passed down to you, that’d be cool as well! Wishing you the best of luck! ❤️

Congratulations Rachel! You can be proud of you. And don't worry about people thinking that "this is not a real job". People think things like this for any kind of job. For example I'm a doctor in ethnomusicology and my job is to collect and research traditional music in Laos. Well many people think that it's not a real job and that I'm not living in the "real world". Why? Because I love my job! Because I don't wake up every morning thinking "OMG another day at work". Many persons think that a "real" job is a boring job, a job that makes you miserable, because you have to suffer for it, earn it. Well screw this! Many people don't have the choice and just get crappy jobs, and it's very sad. But if you have the choice, if you have the possibility to have a job that gives you a sense of fulfillment and makes you happy, go for it!

This is going to be a really weird comment on a video you wrote a post on almost 2 years ago, but I'm a current anthropology undergraduate student and I'm extremely interested in ethnomusicology and I was wondering where you did your PhD and where you are now? My initial grad school list has been turned a little upside down because a lot of schools aren't taking a cohort this semester

@@smolpetitefox1095 I studies in Belgium, at the free University of Brussel (ULB). There was no ethnomusicology section, so I did a master in musicology, and then a second one in anthropology. Then I did a PhD in ethnomusicology about music in Laos. I now work as a researcher and curator in a small ethnology museum in Luang Prabang, the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre.

Rachel, you’re going to be great. And even if it doesn’t work, you’ll be okay! So ideas for quick videos! 1) You could review things other than clothes, like tea, or books. The book idea wouldn’t cost you anything if you’ve got a library card. you can also have a nice time reading a book! 2) Do a favorite things video, like a favorite skirt of the week or month or a favorite type of food, really anything 3) Show us around your town? I think you live in Boston (or near there, don’t feel any need to say where you live), and that’s fascinating to me, personally, because I live on the west coast in California so I assume it’ll be different. Any fun places or historical landmarks would be pretty interesting! 3) 10 min of bad puns. Pick something different each week to make bad puns about. 4) you could talk about any weird theories or opinions you may have about stuff. Not editing cause that would take a while but just talk about, for example, why some movie is better than the book, etc

As a lover of vintage with hobbies in art and costuming/cosplay, I immediately related. It is so nice to see someone on this platform who is okay with showing that people are multifaceted and can have many interests. I am glad you made the jump to do youtube full time and am delighted with how much you have come out of your shell, so to speak, in such a short time. I wish nothing but the best for you and your work. I look forward to more crafting, cosplaying, vintage, and anything else that sparks your interest! 😊

+RachelMaksy, you are an intelligent, creative woman. You’ve got this! Create a schedule, tweak it until it suits you as a creator, and then hold yourself accountable to it. Maybe enlist a friend you trust to encourage and gently push whenever needed. Include some downtime for yourself or you will quickly burnout, and your viewers who love you will be collectively sad 😞 Not because your channel will suffer, but because we have a genuine concern for you. Stay authentic, stay true to you, and remember when things get crazy to cut yourself a break- even wonderful changes can cause some stress. Good luck to you! Congrats! I'm excited to see where your channel goes. I think the rebrand/diversifying your content is a great idea. I also think 3 videos a week is a LOT and you could risk burnout if you keep that pace, but one way around that might be more vlog-style content. I think since your house decor and surroundings and everything are within your aesthetic, you could do the more lifestyle-channel content. And the biggest turnoff for vlogs is that they can be really boring, which is usually an editing problem, and editing is your strong suit.

Just agreeing that 3 a week seems way too many. Also, in regards to patreon, you can have a lot of success there if a have a smaller but engaged fanbase (which I think you do have). If you look at channels like Momo (kzread.infovideos?flow=grid&sort=dd&view=0) her regular views are not crazy high, but she opened her patreon one week ago and is at almost at $1,400 a month. Would really really recommend you doing the same.

I'm repeating a lot of what's been said, but here's some content wishes from me! - home renovations!! - Chatty get read with me's - Cook/bake with me - recreating vintage looks - Clothing & costume DIY's (somewhere between cosplay and what viewers who aren't so keen would like!) - Q&A's (maybe with guests like your husband, best friend etc!) - Thrift Hauls but re-sell some on poshmark? - Visit some historical places and vlog - Christmas is coming - Christmas decorating, Christmas markets? (There's one near me which is Dickens/Victorian themed!) - Videogame - Stardew Valley, it's a farming sim and is super quaint and you can mod furniture to get a vintage feel! Plus, it has online multiplayer! Excited to see more from you, more often!

  • @meamela9820

Hoping for the best of times for you! I think the reason why people love your channel is that you're authenic. To broaden your content and do stuff that you like no matter what "genre" it is in sounds like a really good idea. Concerning the expenses of thrift hauls and such: Try doing vintage videos where you "shop your closet" or othervise focus on styling, wearing, talking about or showing things you already own instead new purchases. I would really enjoy those kinds of videos. I would love to see a series of renovating/decorating your house, with a house tour in the beginning and the end of the process (if such a process has an end) so we could see the difference. I love cosplay videos! And if you wonder how to make enough content, splitting one project into different videos can be good. I usually do that on my blog when I write about bigger projects (recently I e.g. knitted my own Weasley-sweather). In that way I can write something about my project even if I'm not finished yet (progress content) and can go more in depth and make more content out of a project that itself takes the same time no matter if I make one or several posts about it. Of course the writing takes a bit more time with several posts, but making the garment usually takes way more time for me than writing about it. I also love your fandom related content. Are there comming more of that in the future? (Do as you like, I'll watch you anyway.) A series that I think wouldn't take too much effort making is some kind of Monthly favourites/thoughts/whatever suits you, that I have seen many youtubers do.

I think some of the most important aspects are authentic content and stuff that's different from "the usual". If you look at channels that died like for example graveyardgirl you see that she's not really come up with new stuff on her channel, she just repeats what she's always done. On top of that, she hid the fact that she actually was a millionaire and pretended to still be middle class. One unique advantage that you have in the vintage niche though is that there's a high demand for "resource material" I feel, as in how to be authentically styled in vintage clothing etc. There is this aspect of teaching that not every "KZread genre" has. I personally would love if you tried more hairstyles like in your "I Tries ti Recreate 1940's hairstyles", cause most of the tutorials on KZread are victory rolls, high ponytails and the poodle. Trends on KZread are always nice, but ultimately I think that people are subscribed to you because of your uniqueness. So if you want to make funny, edgy, silly, etc videos, people will love it and I think they'll like it a lot more than "just another tag." Best of luck to you xx

Doesn't graveyardgirl have millions of subs? I'm not saying her content isn't the same, but dead channel is a bit much. Also, who actually thought she was middle class? She makes videos in a closet bigger than some most people's bedrooms. Don't even get me started on that bathroom.

@@maddwitch she does, but her views are dropping compared to what the channel used to be like. She loses a significant amount of subscribers every day, statistically speaking. I never thought much about how much money she made, but just look at how she used to portray herself. She even made a while apology video about it. I'm not trying to attack her, I was simply pointing out that she has not been very transparent and innovative, that's all. :)

ok- for suggestions- ur makeup tutorials, ur unboxings of the redbird box- or try one new subscription a month that fits with your personality (they have boxes for literally everything now) , thrift hauls, a weekly vlog, perhaps making or remaking vintage receipes, perhaps a closet and or vanity tour, perhaps some more vintage diys or cosplay related diys, a package vintage swap like what you did with veronique- but with another youtuber- maybe even some vintage movie reviews- a top 10 of vintage music, old films an books, perhaps more of the above from the other era you have been getting into (1960s/1970's) - any react reviews over music an movies, or reviews of books, remaking vintage outfits from peices you already own and perhaps turning it into something else (let goodwill become your friend- there are some hidden gems- if you ever travel out of town or out of state- check the different ones and see what you could find- or see if the vintage or the 1960/70s looks vary by state or country- i could continue, but i think i have made my point

Congrats on taking the leap to pursue your dreams. You have given many people out there including myself to become fearless and go out there and accomplish your dreams. Thank you for being an inspiration to so many people. Some ideas for you for upcoming videos: 1. Showing the redecorating of your house, would love to see how your house gets transformed. 2. More diys, such as taking clothes you already have and transforming them into updated outfits. Kind of like what you did with the ribbon beret by just adding to it. 3. More cosplay videos but with a different series of them each week or month. Such as different themes, maybe a whole month of Disney themed cosplay, then another month with cartoon characters from different decades, or another with movie characters that have just come out in theaters. 4. Would also love to see more makeup and hair tutorials.

I am newer to your channel, but you are so approachable and fun and your personality just shines through! I think the cosplay is such talent and wonderful! As far as content, I personally really like seeing budget and modern/easily accessible pieces styled in a vintage way. And how to partner those basic modern pieces in order to grow a vintage collection. On a business note, keep your head up. Give yourself plenty of time. Set bite sized, measurable goals and just plug along. Also work on diversified revenue streams (partnerships, sponsorships, cross overs, email newsletters, webinars, merch, etc). You’ve got this! Also your take on seasonal DIYs (I’m thinking something along the lines of ‘how would xxx - insert character- decorate for Christmas’ and see what you suggest. No need to buy, just diy). Something that I think would be interesting, but obviously could not be weekly or anything, but would be vlogs about the process of renovating your house! I've loved the videos in the past you've had on your house and decor and such, and would totally be interested in seeing more stuff like that! And they could be videos that would not be as big of projects as they are more just documenting and editing for videos of things you are already planning on doing anyway! Also, more cosplay videos would also be cool so definitely do what you love! Personally, I don't cosplay, but watching videos of you showing us how you plan your cosplays, and then the DIY that goes into the costumes, and the makeup, like a guess doing stuff on the development and realization of a project would be super interesting to me! And when you said history videos I was so excited!! I'm just rambling now, but I just wanted to say that I always love what you do, and you always make funny and entertaining videos, so I'm sure that you are going to be successful at this! Also, I'm glad for the change from the pinup companion, not that it was bad, but just that I felt it didn't really suit you or your content really. It was always an awkward fit, I thought, and so I'm glad your able to stand on your own name as your brand! Darling, this is a new age, we should change with it,, no one likes drastic change but your doing the right thing. Many years ago my husband left a good job to learn a trade and start his own business, didn’t make a lot while learning , but it’s been 35 years and his business is still thriving and we make a good living, because he took a chance. I know you will do great, you have it in you. I’m thrilled🦋 Don’t worry what your job you had thinks, they want to make money and I’m sure you are an asset to them, but can’t do life for someone else all the time. Be confident💖 I’m excited🌈🌈🌈 It’s all good🌈

Yayayayyayay! I am so so excited for you ! Between the house, leaving your job and doing KZread full time... plus A FLUFFIN MERCH STORE?! Aaaahhhh! I'm so excited for you and can't wait to see where this goes. I'm proud of you for taking a risk on yourself and doing something that makes you happy! I work for myself and it is super hard, challenging and stressful, but even on my most stressful days, I would rather work for myself than to ever sacrifice my creativity and my soul for someone else again. You've got this and you are completely supported by us! Also, for ideas for your channel, alone with the cosplay, vintage, vlog, etc, maybe you could include a home reno part? Especially since people ask about it all the time, it would be a way for everyone to feel included? Also, maybe videos of you trying to cook vintage recipes or sew vintage patterns to tie into the diy and cosplay type stuff? Either way, I am so excited for you! Here's to a new journey! 🎉

Congratulations! You’ll be amazing! I would love to see more hair tutorials for vintage hair styles. And I really enjoyed your transformation videos for the Competition. I’m still blown away by your Joan of Arc video.

Wishing you good luck with taking on KZread full time! I’m sure it will work out great, and don’t let yourself feel too pressured to have to go intense full-time KZreadr mode. If you miss a video deadline or don’t manage to meet your weekly video ‘quota’ we don’t mind, and we understand some videos take longer than others. We’re just happy to watch your content, no matter how much of it we get! Take your time and be kind to yourself, you’re going to do amazing

Congrats on all the exciting news! Just so you know, Adsense drops drastically after Christmas, but it slowly picks back up. If you haven't already signed up for the Amazon affiliation program you definitely should! You can then link to an products you show and earn money when people shop through your links. Best of luck with everything! I'm excited to see more videos a week from you :)

I know this is like suuuuuper late to the game, but maybe a video that's kind of behind the scenes, like how you do the editing, etc. Maybe even a "how to be a KZreadr" video for people who might be interested. As far as anything else, all your stuff is so amazing and fun and confidence building. I saw another comment (on your hair dyeing video) that you could be peeling an apple and we'd watch it. I whole-heartedly agree. Try cooking a vintage recipe, more of the "recreating vintage images" videos, maybe checking out a con or festival, anything really! I'd also love to know more about the music you use, don't know if that's an entire video, but I'd like to know where you find it, if you know the names of the pieces, if I can get the sheet music, etc.

Hi! I'm a fairly new subscriber, but an immediate fan. I've seen your new videos, but KZread is suggesting older ones, and this morning I viewed this one. I'd love to see a new video reviewing the vision vs. the reality of transitioning to full time, your thoughts on branding, and suggestions for others to do the same. Hugs to Frodo!

I think a series about how to do sort of "everyday cosplay" looks based on books/films/whatever you like would be really interesting! as much as I love full blown cosplay videos, I think seeing how you would sneakily hide a cosplay in an everyday look would be neat!

Congratulations!!! Such amazing big steps with the house and the new job, very exciting! (and also, very understandably, quite stressful too) Good on you for always being super honest about all things KZread. I really think people respond well to transparency and love watching a channel and "creator" grow. It is inspiring! I am super excited to see the videos you make and to watch your channel continue to grow :)
