My hair was definitely the easiest to maintain and style when I had heat damage. All my styles were a HIT 😂😂😂. I won’t intentionally ever go back, but it’s really not the end of the world.

I’ve been natural for years. Gone at least two years without straightening at a point. Spent lots of money on one product after the next. Did wash ngos and twistouts and protective styles. I routinely had my ends trim, yet I have damage up my hair shaft and frequent knots. I am too busy to continue spending so much time on my hair. Everybody’s hair doesn’t respond well to certain ingredients in natural hair products. Some hair is better maintained by loosening the curl pattern by roller setting, blow drying etc. Heat damage is often what used to be called heat training. I for one will continue to get silk presses several times per year. I will make sure to protect my hair as best as possible. I use the Rev Air and a Tymo straightener as opposed to a flat iron. I’ve come to terms with the fact that my hair doesn’t have to be bone straight to look good. When I want a more sleek look I will flat iron in sections. My hair was never more healthy than when I used to do Roller sets, so I will go back to those. At the end of the day it is hair, you can cut it and it will grow back.

I had a silk press about a year and a half ago and loved the fact that my hair was longer than I thought (pass my bra). However, it took me a month to get past the smell of burnt hair. I reverted my hair back within three days. Now, I thank God for the Revair because I am not about bone straight, just manageability. My hair continues to flourish, but the right products make a difference, or you can experience damage without heat.

Still beautiful 😍 some products that I recommend to my clients with heat damage: Aphogee Protein Treatment, K18 Hair Mask, and Olaplex. You may never get your “natural curl” pattern back where the heat damage is without cutting it but it definitely will help with the bonds in the hair to encourage the natural curl and to prevent further heat damage. ♥️

Your hair is still very beautiful! As others mentioned I def had some of my best hair days (especially wash n gos) on damaged hair. Personally I don’t think your hair is damaged especially because you said your hair felt like it still had a film on it after washing. More than likely that’s leftover silicones that are weighing your hair down. I would def recommend clarifying your hair and then doing a bond treatment like Olaplex and see if you still feel the same.

Have you ever thought about styling your hair straight but without the flat iron? I go to a Dominican salon (I have curly hair mostly 3A,B) and my stylist does my rolos (rollers) I dry them for 1hr and 10mins, and then she blow dries, since with lower heat than it would if the hair was wet or no rolos. This decreases the amount of heat damage (of course I still get some) but I do this 1-2x a month, and my curls still look very good. I started my curly hair journey two years ago but I’m lazy for all this hair care stuff so I can’t help but straighten it sometimes. I still want best of both worlds though 😂

I miss having relaxed hair because I enjoy having straight styles; however, my hair is so much fuller being natural. When I do straighten it, it looks so much healthier. I wear it curly most of the time. I think because I've found a curly look, I enjoy it doesn't bother me. I did have some damaged ends, which surprised me because I use heat so rarely. That taught me I still need to keep a close watch on my curly styling. Damage csn happen no matter what if you're not properly taking care of your hair.

I did a video showing how my heat damage hair still curls and perhaps "heat dmage" isnt damaging curls completely to the point it is bone stright both wet and dry kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKF8sLKRlbPMido.html . That happened to me *I thought* so I cut allll of my hair off to start over. Then while growing it out with no heat, I found out that the top of my hair just does not curl for some reason. Looked the exact same before i cut it. May be genetics. It's back to my bra now but it'd be down my back if I didn't cut it 🥲 🤣🤣

What setting do you have your hair straightened? I've been wearing my hair straight for about 6 months and I only have alittle damage on the ends. I straighten on 350 and I've been deep conditioning and doing protein treatments. Not sure if that helps any?

You could try a bond builder like Olaplex or K18 to help keep your hair's integrity up. I've tried both and they really help out a lot! I'm using K18 right now. IMHO, every heat straitened natural should have one of the two in their arsenal.

@@cfoster6804 Ditto - I straighten my hair regularly (have been for over a year now) and alternate between olaplex and k18 and my curls are surviving - still very much in tact.. But I think Candice also goes to the salon to get her hair straightened so the temp is prob much higher than it would be for those of us doing it ourselves. Hair still beautiful regardless tho... 😍

Honestly, it's only a problem if you want to wear a fro, otherwise it's not really a big deal. the bonds are broken just like a relaxer, so it's weaker hair but just like you can still have long, moisturized i.e healthy chemically treated hair ( relaxed or colored) you can with heat damage. If you want to wear it curly one day there are always braid & twist outs or you can wash and go and do twists in the front where it's straight. As long as you deep condition, use olaplex and get regular trims you'll be gucci!

I’m wondering what your full routine is & I’m not convinced you like your hair by the tone of your voice lol. I blow out my hair a lot, I also have the revlon brush I seen you use one too. But I don’t use a flat iron, I use an instyler to straighten my hair. I think it’s helped a lot with heat damage. I like having my hair straight but I also want it to be healthy. I think it’s possible to achieve healthier hair than what you’ve shown here and still be a straight hair natural. Maybe its the routine you’re using that’s speeding up the heat damage of your hair

its just one wash day. If you give it a few weeks and most of it will come back. If you put heat on it now the curls will be lost. but it still looks good.
