As a person with a shit ton of religious (specifically Christian) trauma... anyone who doesn't understand religious trauma won't get why Aziraphale chose what he did at the end, but believe me when I say it is SO in character it *hurts.* If you know, you know.

About why the Metatron seems to know how to blend in with the humans, it could be because according to Abrahamic Lore, he was a human before he became an angel named Enoch.

To me, the fact that Crowley was actually witness to Aziraphale’s trial & execution in the first season says it all. Before S2 got released, I was HUGELY adamant to the idea that Crowley’s feelings toward this scene HAD to be addressed because it was simply TOO IMPORTANT for his character and relationship with Aziraphale. When I got to see the pain and anger in Crowley’s eyes as he blamed Gabriel for trying to end his best friend’s life, I was SCREAMING. Aziraphale wasn’t there to see how cruel Gabriel (and heaven in general) had been toward him. Crowley must have always assumed that Aziraphale had to be respected in heaven for him to be so stuck up on principle. Crowley never truly understood why Aziraphale was so passionate about his cause, knowing that he had been thrown away JUST for questioning a few things. I think that’s when Crowley understood just how resilient and pure his friend had been this whole time because it’s was now clear to see that heaven did not cared, even in the slightest about Aziraphale never ending faith and loyalty. And if you see this the other way around, Aziraphale consequently never knew how heaven was about to discard him so easily on the very end, despite everything. It was yet another nail on the coffin for Crowley, a new reason to despise the higher ups. It means that Aziraphale’s belief (and religious trauma, it’s important to mention) were still strong about heaven, he never realised how disposible he had been for them up until now. It makes it even more painful to know that Crowley saw his friend, now admitted love interest, choosing heaven over him. As he walked into the elevator, Aziraphale was now leaving for people that Crowley KNOWS to be as*h*les and dangerous. Crowley simply took it all in, as he always did.

And I don't think that Aziraphale is that naive in the end, because the whole season is him trusting Crowley and coming with his own side (light gray). Plus, I believe that he finally wants to save Crowley for the first time, because he already said that he always has a plan to save himself, but still he put himself in danger to be saved by Crowley. So the smile in the end tells people to trust him. He didn't want the job in the first place but the Metatron didn't really give him a choice, so azi needed to play along and maybe that is why he was still watching over the windows and carefully choosing his words, because the voice of god was around. It's my interpretation of the situation. I also recommend, if you like good omens theory, @Sendarya videos, she explains so many topics in such wonderful ways. ( sorry for my English it's not my first language )

Thank you for the truly kind way you dealt with the final 15 minutes of S2. First time I've been able to watch an analysis of that scene without breaking down in tears. Yes, there must be a breakthrough in heaven and hell: both need to change radically. First, they must change for A&C to finally be safe enough to have an untroubled relationship, and, second, for the human race to be safe as well. A&C must learn to communicate properly. It's amazing that their relationship survived for 6000 years with such poor communication. Crowley has protected Aziraphale from full knowledge of his fall so Azi must continue to gain that understanding ever so slowly on his own. I keep coming back to that moment in the Garden when Aziraphale gave his flaming sword to Adam. He chose to protect the human race. That is fundamentally who he is: our protector. Each must respect who the other is fundamentally, and that comes back to better communication.

@@themoviescoopchick Yes, I agree, especially since Neil Gaiman is going to take the series back to the story that he and Terry Pratchett originally envisioned. Hopefully that story has space for A&C's emotional issues to be resolved. If we're lucky, the issues will be resolved throughout the episodes to come. Still hoping for a happy ending for their sake, and for ours.

There's a video on here somewhere where the person has turned the music down in the last scene, and it definitely sounds like he says "I can't". I think that Michael Sheen and David T are playing the roles as in love because that's the direction, and Neil Gaiman has made it clear on his own tumblr when asked. Michael does a great job of the heart eyes, and I agree how anyone could have ever thought they were just friends is beyond me also. Neil Gaiman has also said the kiss is meant to be communication, not a romantic or sexual kiss, but I do think what the producer said makes sense, you can see it on Aziraphale's face and in his reaction. I think he leaves at the end because he's frightened and trying to protect Crowley, and everyone once he hears the plans.. Also I love your final words and totally agree about how brilliant they all are. And what a mensch Michael Sheen is, to see him tell fans on twitter they've made a lovely fan edit. So sweet. I love that he says it's all great, he's not sniffy about it at all. Hoping the 3rd series might be before the end of 2025. We just need that confirmation, but Neil is writing and the actors have been approached..

Not to burst everyone's bubble.. I had the thought that the intended small miracle Aziraphale and Crowley wanted to perform, was so strong and potent because they both held the hands of Gabriel (Jim), he lost his memory, but he is not completely powerless...I think. So maybe the whole thing is so strong because of the combination?! Side question: the trial members wanted to strip him of his powers....but were they able to go through with it, though? Gabriel distracted them before with the whole cleaning out his desk thing and his clothing..... And he wiped his mind himself first before they could do it as well!

My idea on a possible "twist" for season 3--Metatron turns out to be a good guy who wanted desperately to get Az to Heaven to help AVERT the Second Coming! He did manipulate Az and C, but he knew C would be in danger in heaven. That's why he looked so relieved in the elevator when Az got on.

I think the show contradicts on your statement. If its true then the metatron wouldn’t have cared if Gabriel didn’t agree with the second coming. Yet instead he was quick to punish Gabriel, he wanted to demote him and erase his memories. At the end of season 2 the metatron sounds that he hates Crowley, he sounds disgusted that Crowley asked too many questions. And I can see him being behind Crowley’s fall and that his memory was erased. And there is season 1 were he point blank tells Aziraphale heaven wanted the war against hell. He didn’t do anything to avert it. I have a feeling the metatron would represent people who claim to carry out god’s wishes but, they’re actually carrying out their own agenda

Brace yourselves, this is going to be a hell (ha!) of a comment. I myself don’t really understand my point by now, so bare with me. I really like your use of the phrasing „religious Trauma“ regarding Aziraphale. I‘m not really familiar with the complete meaning of the term, but I know it mostly from fanfictions (not good omens ones, I‘ts only been two weeks since I‘ve watched the show for the first time, so I haven’t read that many fanfics yet), in which one person might also be taught homophobia through religion. And Aziraphales behaviour is really similar to that for me, because he was taught that heaven is good and hell is evil (obviously), which can directly translate to a homophobic look at the world (very black and white) I think. It also could connect with the scene-that-shall-not-be-named, because of the whole temptation thing. You’ve said it too, the look of the situation can be similar to Aziraphales reaction when he ate for the first time. To him, that moment surely has brought him many good things, as seen in his love for food, but it maybe has a bittersweetness about it, because in a way, Crowley has tempted him to take the first bite (At least if I remember the scene correctly). So that uncertainty of temptation by Crowley, a Romeo and Juliet type of „enemy/lover“ for Aziraphale (I mean the way he was brought up conflicting with his positive feelings towards Crowley), could maybe be another reason why he reacted the way he did. My conclusion is basically a classic form of overthinking mixed with, as said, the whole religious trauma/capuletmontague thingy that the two have going on. I‘m sorry if that didn’t make much sense, English isn’t my first language and I’m honestly just making this up as I go.

I've read/watched a fair few fandom analyses now, and I keep getting surprised by the things that are taken for granted. Like... why do so many people refer to Crowley's "trauma" and insist that he didn't mean to fall? Has nobody heard of unreliable narrators? Representatives of hell are shown lying, again and again, in the show, and while Crowley may be a nice demon, he's still a demon. In fact, in season 2, "I'm a demon, I lied" is repeatedly stated to remind us not to take Crowley's words as gospel, and I believe Gaiman is also on record saying that Crowley's description of his fall is not objective...

I don’t know if it’s just me personally thinking this or maybe Aziraphale could as well but it’s also the fact that Zira might find himself getting into trouble somehow either that be in heaven or during the second coming and knowing that Crowley cannot resist saving him, and as well that they both work so well with each other in how they ‘helped’ stop Armageddon. Aziraphale probably had hopes that even if Crowley didn’t come with him that they would be bound to meet again and hopefully actually communicate for once. I’m so happy Season 3 has been renewed and although it’s going to be extremely hard I will try to be patient. Thank you for this beautiful analysis ❤️❤️

I'm pretty sure Az would understand the Metatron's offer (be the next archangel) as the kind of Offer One Does Not Refuse. Az turning down that offer wasn't on the table at all. Given how heaven is presented throughout the book and series, I'm sure Az knew it was leave with the Metatron or (unspeakable consequences). The Metatron threw in the "reinstate Crowley" possibility knowing full well that Crowley would never agree to that, but it would make *the Metatron* LOOK generous, plus i think he loves effing with "little people" by creating drama, he just gives that vibe in spades.

so much people talk about how the premise of season 2 and that Aziraphale wanted to protect Gabriel was total nonsense, but hear me out, no matter how naive he can be, he is not a fool, and in addition to his great curiosity that was always quite fueled by his Friend, I genuinely believe that he saw Crowley reflected in Jim in a certain way and wanted to protect him in a way he couldn't do with the devil and everything he suffered. On the other hand, I think that there is no such "coffee theory", it was a threat from Metatron: if you do not choose coffee (his offer metaphorically), you choose death, something so obvious and simple that perhaps due to the trauma and shock at the end you will not We saw it with so many questions that it generated.

Hi, i'm on eighteen twenty seven of your video and I find it very interesting and very well put together. And it make me think about a thing that I think we all Take for granted. Crowley was Sent to hell, love is a weakness there. So you're not gonna show That to anybody. Even if it's somebody you trust with your life showing love is far too great risk. You just wouldn't do it.

For a video titled 'A deep dive' i'm more than a little disappointed that in the first few lines there is already falsehoods presented as truth. The story of how the Good Omens book came about has been told several times. the two met when neil got to interview terry, after neil had written the first 5000 words of what would later become Good Omens he sent it around to all his writer friends, including terry then forgot about it as he was working on other projects, a year later terry called him up, asked him if he was doing anything with it and offered to buy the idea off him or write it with him, neil of course jumped at the chance of working with an author he greatly admired. A simple google search would tell you this. the only place i've heard this version of how they met is from James Somerton which given recent events isnt great.

I belive that if crowly shared even just a little bit about his past in heaven(prob mostly about his Feelings after the fall) aziraphale would have seen heaven different, and in contrest to that would have maybe not gone to heaven, becouse yes, he dose know that heaven is not all good but he convinces himself that they have to be good, becouse if they aren't what would all the time he served haven mean? Nothing. I also belive that he is afraid of being regected by heaven, that he thinks that if that happens that he woulde be alone, sure crowly would still be there but sonner or later he would also leave. Or maybe I'm just delulu but who knows

The question is where is God in all this, because Metatron is none other than today's press spokesman. Did he act on his own or with the consent of his boss? Aziraphale is programmed by brainwashing by authoritarian power, others angels who perceived this authoritarianism were thrown into hell. Because those who ask questions are always inconvenient for the authorities. Hell was full of rebellious angels, including: Hastur, Furfur. Although and Azirafal, after his experiences with Gabriel, also notices cracks. Largely influenced surely by Crowley. He taught him to think analytically. I think the ending and the angel's motivations are a bit different. Apart from doing Good. Aziraphale has always been disregarded by the authorities, even beaten-up by the highest angels, treated like a naive, hardwired schoolboy. And it's not so much about Goodness in the last scene in lift, but about healing his own trauma. He has become the highest, most powerful of angels . It is an aphrodisiac of the highest quality, but also a way to relieve stress. He could have turned back when he learned about the Second Armageddon, but he didn't. He felt the power. Notice how relieved Metaron was when Aziraphale entered the elevator. For me, Crowley is 100% a Bayronic hero. He is a great individualist, a rebel, a hero who suffers because of his past, is always in conflict with the world, trusts no one, is marked by suffering and, of course, an extremely mysterious person filled with sarcasm. And yet he can appreciate friendship with a human or, in this case, an angel:) While watching the series, I even thought that Pratchett and Gaiman actually modeled themselves on Byron when creating Crowley. And this clearly shows how much cognitive dissonance separates Aziraphale and Crowley. Which is the reason for the dramatic ending of part six. The problem is that they are strong only as a duo. Naive Aziraphale won't do anything on his own, because Crowley was the mastermind of all the actions. And of course Azirafal will encounter a great opposition in heaven. It can be interesting:)

And make sure it gets their facts straight. 1. Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman met in a Chinese restaurant, where Neil interviewed Terry. 2. Good omens was Neil's idea, Terry liked it so much he offered to buy the idea from Neil or to collab. Neil opted for the latter cause according to his own words "Because I was not stupid, and because that was the nearest I was ever going to get to Michaelangelo phoning to ask if I wanted to paint a ceiling with him." I barely made it to minute 2 and had to stop the video to check the comments. Not sure if this was the AI's mistake or the person behind it, nonetheless, I'm not watching this bs.
