Good Morning, Captain: The Story of Slint
Музыка
In this video, I go into the history of Slint, a band of great mystery and darkness. I discuss their early career, all of their releases and analyze said releases in a narrative format. Let’s get into how four teenagers from the oddball town of Louisville, Kentucky became one of the most interesting rock bands of the 1990s.

I love how young they were yet making the most incredible sounds. Not the sound of teenage angst so much as teenage isolation. Really impressive soundscapes they make.

Not really. Nothing and I mean nothing, no music, movies, or anything from Kentucky can considered great, much less all-time great. I guess you could consider Slint to be Kentucky’s greatest musical export, but then again, that’s not really saying much.

I hate to say this, but I've lived in Louisville Kentucky the last 10 years and I just found this band.
Great video. While I don't listen to Slint often, I think they're a good band. Spiderland is a good album.
Been in Louisville all my life and it always had a crazy music scene . Mostly working class town , and all really to do was play some music and fuck around. There's only a snap shot in time to make your mark, or fade into the masses, I'm glad they made a dent . King Horse i remember was really good too.
COMPLETELY LOVED IT! THANKS A BUNCH, MATE!
you put together an amazing and informative video essay, its criminal you only have 25k views

nice video - lotta facts i didnt know!! thank you for the education
Great video!
I just stumbled on there CD in a music store and have loved them every since!!
truth is there isn't any story about slint, but we all feel like there must be
It's cool you put this together, and I totally agree with your assessment of Britt Walford's drumming on Spiderland: it's so creative and, I would say, daring for a rock album. Fun fact, Steve Albini liked Britt's drumming so much that he recommended Britt for the Breeders. Unfortunately, it seemed like that Breeders project really toned down his creativity. But, it's nice to know there's other things to follow up on with this band, and it was cool to see a bit of video footage of Britt's drumming on Good Morning, Captain - I've always wondered how he did some of that stuff.
Ok.. This may be a nerdy question but I'm asking it because I've been into Tropical Fish for almost 40 years. What kind of fish was Slint? It's a legit question in my opinion. Love this band. Thanks for putting the time into tbe video
@TheMusicNarrative
4 жыл бұрын
Vaughn Mild Thanks for the comment and question! The fish was likely just a regular gold fish, or else one of the common fishes found in any pet store, as the Breadcrumb Trail documentary mentions how Britt Walford would go and buy fish/pets from the store pretty consistently

@@TheMusicNarrative I saw that. He seemed to be a bid of an oddball thst dug more exotic (not too many people had Iguana's back tgen. I'd like to think it wasn't a goldfish though. Ya know, I used to know all those guys back in the day but I never was really a fan of Slint. I do recognize how influential they are but for some reason the music never did click for me but then again, it has been forever since I listened to them so maybe I should give 'em another try. By the way, another big pre-Slint band no-one mentions is Solution Unknown.
You do realize that slint predates some of the genres you mentioned. All of these elements were there for sure besides post rock. I'd say the influencers were slint in that regard. You know how we felt about nostalgia, yeah?
Love that dude's Void trousers
I love how Will Oldham, aka Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, took the picture for the album cover of Spiderland. Never heard that before.

I’m sorry. I love most of your videos, but I cannot stand Slint. I hate their “music”, and can’t understand why anyone with ears can tolerate it. Maybe it’s too unique I guess, but listening to the people (such as Pitchfork) give it a 10/10 and praise up the ass is the most pretentious and annoying thing I’ve ever heard. You articulated the points in this video very well tho, so cheers!

@@sebp400 The Untitled EP is the most accessible of their stuff to me, but that’s not really saying much. And nah, not really. That’s why I don’t count Slint being “influential” as a point of glory. They mostly just influenced a bunch of post-rock bands that no one cares about. Really, nothing from Kentucky can be considered “all-time great art”.
