    I got 99% Scandinavian, and 1% from Papua New Guinea. I feel like either it’s incorrect or, if it’s true, it probably wasn’t a beautiful love story. I think people should that keep in mind when recieving their DNA test results while gushing about how ”exotic” they suddenly are.

It listed Middle Eastern that I didn't realize was there. I figured there was Russian Jewish (Ashkenazi) and found out it was only about 5 or 6 generations back. The percentage of Balkan and Northern European was rather surprising. Then, from my mother came Sicilian, French and Greek as well. I guess I'm just a mongrel.

  • @wodenravens

    @wodenravens

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@futurez12 These results are not very accurate. My Heritage in particular is pretty notorious for throwing in false positives. Firstly, My Heritage is not the best for British (and Irish) ancestry; for that you should use LivingDNA as they use the largest sample size of modern British DNA and that makes their results more accurate (down to the county level). Also, these tests are not telling you where your ancestors are from; they are telling you the modern populations with which the DNA markers (alleles) are most commonly associated with. The DNA of English people in the west country is often much closer to Welsh, for example, than to DNA from Norfolk or Lincolnshire. Because My Heritage are not very good at picking up on these differences they seem to assign 'Irish, Scottish and Welsh' to people who are in fact English. Because they are merely looking for 'markers' of ethnicity, it is also very common for levels around 1-4% to be assigned to quite exotic ethnicities when in fact they are nothing of the sort. Many English people will carry genes that are associated with Ashkenazi Jews even though they have no Jewish ancestry. These kinds of tests see that ancestry and immediately assign you to that ethnicity as they regard it as a 'marker' of that ethnicity. In fact, you could just be an Englishman who carries an Askenazi Jew 'marker' within your DNA. It is very possible that the Iberian, Greek and Jewish results on this show are false positives. It is also very possible that they are accurate, but in my experience (I have done many of these tests) they often throw up false positives. They are pretty as a gimmicky bit of fun than serious science.

    Ben probably due to the minute percentage of Greek heritage, had some ancestors that went way back to the Roman empire of middle ages (Byzantine), where English Huscarls were employed as mercenaries (battle of Dyrrachium 1081) and some of them even established their own colony in Crimean peninsula, which was also populated by Greeks. Another possibility is that an ancestor escorted Lionheart's army to the invasion of Cyprus island and returned back home with woman and children. Fascinating, right? I just had mine done and it’s turned my world upside down. I don’t have the ethnicity that matches the genealogy. I don’t know how I’ll ever find out the truth, as the older generations are all gone. I took it badly at first, very shaken, but I’m coming to terms with the fact. But not ever being able to find out the truth will be difficult. But the fun part is that I used to live in the UK and my dna has turned out to be mostly British and Irish! I’m not supposed to be, but there it is.

    Bob el Silencioso Yes, there is cultural ethnicity, too. But, of course, DNA testing certainly could not pinpoint that. There probably is some DNA differences between different European ethnicities, certainly a Dane is different from, say, a Bulgarian, BUT despite their claims, the ancestry DNA tests cannot yet really pinpoint that, either.

    My father is Scottish and my mother is German. On both sides I can trace many branches back 5, 6 or even 7 generations. Most of my ancestors stayed put where they were born. So I have expected to have about 50% Scottish (Scottish/Irish/English) and 50% German. But I am about 80% British (43% Scottish/Irish/Welsh and 36.2% English) and only about 20% "East"-European. I wonder if the result is acurate.

    I have ordered mine. Apparently "myHeritage" is pretty accurate for those in Europe, just by watching many people's results. I got it for a really cheap price. The only downfall about these DNA kits in general is trusting a company with your DNA. DNA is a complete make up of who we are and with how far science has come i just hope it isn't shared for sinister scientific reasons. That being said, i'm taking the chance and can't wait to see my results 👍

It is actually a British category, it is a mix of Norman French, Viking, Anglo-saxons and ancient Briton's! This category includes Southern Scotland, Wales and England. The actual "English" DNA is under the North and West European which is "Anglo-saxon". It's a American company and they have a tendancy to mix up English with British.

    Like most you need to do one of the Test's that only identify you by numbers/Code associated with the Test & maybe a birth date and nothing more. It's a safety issue. We've got people who have "made" themselves part of our family and are not any relation what so ever. Not by blood or adoption. Your family potentially has Identity Theft too. In our situation, my children were kidnapped in the United States and the severity of the situation is that I nearly lost my life shortly after the kidnapping of the children and the theft of my Identity at that time. It's very important to do the DNA because even if we aren't still alive the DNA will be. I have heard wonderful things about the Heritage DNA test. I don't know if you have black family members, but there's some using your family name. We've got criminals and batshit crazy people who are living nice lives using our dead and missing loved ones name's & associated fraudulent identity. At this point we are trying to get across the Sea home although we're Former Federal Employees of the United States Government. I will give you a free smile today. Look up Photos Prince Philip 1976. The chap on the left side of the photo looks just like my husband. Look up photos of Abdul & Queen Victoria and the white dog. If you look at the white dog at the feet of Abdul & Queen Victoria that dog looks like our K9. Our K9 is Sochi/Russian Finnish name derived from Hebrew meaning God has Remembered. It's not on purpose either. We were at a restaurant in the past few days and one of the Employees said that the man in the Photo & my husband are the same. I didn't say anything. Another customer said that your husband looks like the bloody Prince of England and you look like Queen Victoria!! A Life In Secrets is about the missing British Intelligence Agent's Of WWII. We've been asked if the personal photos we have of some of the missing British Intelligence Agent's came with the book. No, that's why they are personal photos. Somebody said that it doesn't matter whether it's the family you were told to believe or another one that might be different your all good. I actually still have my Federal Taxes & payslips from when I worked with one of the Schwartzkopf's. That's not exactly in bad company. I tried to have credibility for us or anybody else who might have been harmed by this criminal element but some idiot working as a Crime Victims advocate in the United States asked me if I was talking about the hair care people!! No, I was talking about the Generals group. 2 days ago I found out that I have the same blood type as John F Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe & a US Attorney said I was talking about a Scandal!! Gee, Straight A Honor Roll Students who come up missing without a trace are kidnapped and their parents worked for the Government....Yes, I think we're there!! I also have the same blood type as Sir Michael Jagger among others.... It's absolutely stunning...... May God bless you and keep you...At the end of the religious service when I was a child that was sung.
