Good Bye Kolkata | Oldest Station & Largest Railway Complex in India | Abbas Shabbir India Travel

#kolkata #indianrailways #exploreindia
In This Video Pakistani Journalist Abbas Shabbir Ali Leaving for Pakistan from Kolakta Howrah railway station. Howrah railway station is the oldest station and largest railway complex in India. It is one of the four intercity railway stations serving the city of Kolkata, the others being Sealdah Station, Shalimar Station and Kolkata railway station. The terminal station is located on the west bank of the Hooghly River, linked to Kolkata by Howrah Bridge. With 23 platforms, it has the highest train-handling capacity of any railway station in India; and is one of the busiest railway stations in terms of passenger volume per day.
Initial plans for the first Howrah station were submitted by George Turnbull the Chief Engineer of the East Indian Railway Company on 17 June 1851. In January 1852, it became clear that the government authorities would not sanction the purchase of sufficient land nor the necessary waterfrontage despite remonstrations from Turnbull that the terminus would grow enormously. In May 1852, the detailed station plans were the major work of him and his team of engineers. In October four tenders for building the station were received varying from 190,000 to 274,526 INR against an estimate of 250,000 INR.
Due to a great increase of traffic, a new station building was proposed in 1901. The new station was designed by the British architect Halsey Ricardo. It was brought into service on 1 December 1905. This building is the current Howrah station building. The station had 15 platform tracks.
It was expanded in the 1980s with the addition of 8 platform tracks in an area to the south of the station which previously had a parcels terminal, bringing the track count up to 23. At the same time a new Yatri Niwas (transit passenger facility) was built south of the original head house.
Trains from this station serve the Kolkata urban area via the Kolkata suburban railway, the state of West Bengal, and most major cities of India. Its twenty-three platforms handle over six hundred trains each day, serving more than a million passengers, making it the one of the busiest railway platforms in India . It is served by two zones of the Indian Railways: Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway.

You came here to cover cricket and all its happenings but you made sure to capture every single moment possible in your camera. My heart went out when you said "pata nai aage kvi India aa paunga ki nai". We as Indian will love to host you again. There are still lot of places that you couldn't cover in this trip. You're travelling in the historic train. Ek zamaane mein this train was running from Moghalsarai to Rawalpindi and Peshawar Cantonment as Peshawar Mail.. After 1930s, it became Calcutta- Punjab Mail (Howrah to Lahore). 1965 tak is train mein 2 dibbe Howrah se Lahore ke liye chalte thein.100 saal se bhi zaada puraani train hai. We Rail fans lovingly hail it as ORR Mail since 1917.

I have old Time Tables of this train. It used to originate from Moghalsarai Jn and run all the way up to Punjab in Rawalpindi. In 1927, it was numbered and named 5Dn/6Up Peshawar Mail over the East Indian Railway network between Moghalsarai Jn and Saharanpur Jn and 1Up/2Dn Calcutta Mail between Saharanpur Jn and Rawalpindi sector over the North Western Railway. The ORR Mail- 5/6 Mughalsarai- Peshawar Mail (predecessor of today's Howrah-Amritsar- Punjab Mail), as is mentioned in the Time Table is running as a through train up to Rawalpindi station with a connecting passenger train to Peshawar. The 1/2 E.I. Mail and the ORR (former)- Peshawar 5/6 Mail had their timings synchronized at Moghalsarai Jn and Ambala Cant stations for passengers from Calcutta going to Lahore- Rawalpindi and Peshawar. One through Carriage originates from Moghalsarai Jn station and runs coupled by 5Dn E.I’s Mail and 16Up Passenger up to Peshawar Cantonment station via Rawalpindi. In 1927, this was the only through connection between Calcutta and Lahore. Moghalsarai Jn- Peshawar Cantonment is 1000 Miles. @@AmitSaxena-eq1kw

I guess that Netaji Subhas Chanda Bose travelled in this train to escape from the British Govt. in India. However, he went to a station called Gomo in the midway and rode the train in a cold midnight of January month, and went to Peshawar. From there one of his local Pathan friends escorted him to Kabul.

I hope you had the time to grasp the beauty of the old areas, the delicious food and the tram ride. Each state in India has a different aura, culture, custom and language. As a pakistani you would find it tough to understand the different languages but yes the friendly host vibes will not be absent in any part of India.

Yes, I too saw Abrar Hassan's vlogs. But he was a bit of selective mindset person. Always talking about "Halal" whenever looking for non-veg meal, that offended me at times. We never saw Abbas sir talking so shamelessly like this. Abbas sir respected feelings of Hindu community, which is commendable.
