I always get emotional when I listen to this song because both my parents died when I was very young. Now I am 26 years of age and I am still taking the responsibility to support my younger siblings. Sacrificed a lot of my leisure time and dreams so they can get a better education. One day when my two younger siblings graduate from college/Uni, I will be the proudest big brother ever. Thanks for this song.

I had a black guy I used to drive to work in 2007 cause he was on my way there and didn’t have a car. He quoted the Goo Goo Dolls “and I don’t want the world to see me, cause I don’t think that they’d understand” and he said “only a white man could write those lyrics” 😅. It is alright to be concern or not know about what happens after this life. Fortunately there's a way to not suffer, not be in danger, not be poor, not get hurt, not have to work in vain, not have to feel any kind of negative vibe, and not to get tired anymore. I wish I could personally thank the Goo Goo Dolls for saving my life with this song. This song continues to give me the strength to live and overcome. I've been one year sober, and even though I'm still homeless, I'm still not giving in. I'm bipolar as well, and I still find strength via music to fight one more day. Yes, with a heavy heart, I can see age taking its toll on me finally. I have given a good fight, 39 years and still teenager looks.. But the Grey is starting to slightly show. I am considering dying it haha! The past glows like a golden hazy ball always, forever in my mind, and I will re-live things I did in my youth and think back, feeling the sun on my face, the breeze through my hair and I will sip that beer and be thankful I am still able to enjoy the same things. I will do this until I am unable to from age, then I will most likely push my - eventually owned wheelchair off the cliff with something playing like this track, or maybe something happier, and I won't sit babbling, dribbling in a window. I will live while I can and I will die happy.

I remember these days. These were good days. Life was so full of hope, love, and passion. Here I am all these years later, alone in a cold apartment, my wife is in the ground, my family is in the ground, my friends are nowhere to be seen. My mental health continues to take a beating and continues to decline, my spirit is broken and I am slowly giving up. But it's nice to come back here from time to time and relive the good days, if only for a few minutes.

Me and my little brother would listen to this song driving around on backroads when he was in high school. He is now in the US Navy working aboard a Carrier. Every time I hear this song memories come flooding back to me and him. Wish I could’ve drove around with him one more time before he shipped out. Love you buddy!

It is alright to be concern or not know about what happens after this life. Fortunately there's a way to not suffer, not be in danger, not be poor, not get hurt, not have to work in vain, not have to feel any kind of negative vibe, and not to get tired anymore. Imagine you will be invincible, immortal, and holy with a new, upgraded body to the core! Imagine everyone around you will be the same as you. Isn't that a delightful thought? It's true you or anyone can have eternal life. All you got to do is to accept Jesus Christ 🙏 as your Savior! Once you do, He will let you into heaven during your day when you finally see Him!

The lyrics in this song are so deep, especially in the second verse. I think this song is ultimately about growing up and being disappointing about the way life turns out. Not everybody becomes a star, a lot do grow up too fast etc... This a very underrated song in my opinion and I think its their best song overall.

This song & " Iris " both make cry. The first lines of " Iris " hit hard. It reminds my of my g/f who passed away @ age of 27 . We were together 10+ years. Never fought or got mad once. I relate to you there. This was the very first song that I can recall playing on repeat when I was a child. It quickly became my favorite song, and it is still my favorite song to this day. However, for all of those years that I listened to not only them but this specific song, it was not until I got to see them live back in September of 2011 and Johnny explained the meaning behind the song, that I realized that this was my life..... I too am an Orphan, though at the time I first heard this song I still had my Dad, he died 2 years later....... like for that song to come full circle like that over 20 years later was just mind blowing. The instrumentals of this song always cut to my core and so for as many times as I have listened to it I just never focused on the lyrics so much..... it's just crazy.

One of the best CD's I ever heard.

I was 10 when I first heard this song. It is forever burned into my memories. We packed all we could grab and left the house I grew up in. This song came on as we pulled out of the neighborhood. Scars really are souvenirs you never loose. You saved us mommy I love you 💖

I don't care what anybody says! This is their best song!! Both lyrically and rhythm wise!

I love this Song resonates within my soul. It's so Nostalgic. I could be working and as soon as I hear this Masterpiece it stops me right in my tracks.😭😭😭 I listen to this song every day. I loved it then and i still love it. "Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are" I get Goosebumps listening 🎧. I think about my life, my son who is no longer here. Rip Ray😢😢 You are Truly missed.

I wanna go back there now... to that time, to that place, to those people, to that someone-- wish I could listen to him play this song again... back in school when he'd bring that guitar and we'd all gather around under the tree between classes to sing along to these kinds of songs. Nothing beats those sunny afternoons. I'm quite certain the sun shone much brighter back then.

Seen them perform this live in Joliet. Dream come true. John’s voice just pulls you in ❤

Wasn’t a huge fan of these dudes back in the day but, wow, what a tune. As a former radio DJ, I’ll say that this song perfectly represents, not only 90’s music, but also what it meant to be living your life back then: 03:02 this point perfectly encapsulates an era - sonically it represents a sound lightly dipped in early 90’s grunge, rinsed in cool mid/late 90’s alternative to create an anthem for a transitional, end of the century, decade. Kudos, lads 👏 this song will never grow old, only better 🎧

In 1995, this song came out after my oldest brother passed away. This reminds me of him in so many ways. He was hard of hearing in both ears. Tormented and bullied all his life. Back when he was younger, there were only special schools for mentally challenged children. He was not accepted into these schools for the simple fact that he was okay except for his hearing. Fast forward to his late teens. My father was an abusive alcoholic. Used to beat on him something awful. David turned to alcohol and then eventually, drugs, to numb the pain of his past. According to Billboard's Pop Songs charts, from the 1992-2012 time period, all three of those songs were among the 100 most successful and popular Top 40 hits during that time. Heck, "Slide" cracked the Top 10, and "Iris" took the number 1 spot by a landslide!

The tempo changes in this are flawless. It creates a perfect dialogue between reflection and action. Love this song so much.

Even as an 8 year old in 1995 I remember this song so well, now in my mid-thirties and it's still one of my favorites, so happy to have been a kid in the 90s!

One of the best songs in history. From someone who was at a crossroads in life this song always makes me remember what life is always about

Maybe it's because I'm depressed, but listening to Name or Iris or other great GGD songs makes me reminisce of better times. Innocent childhood times before the weight of the world fell on our shoulders. And we grow up to realize we are not anyone special. At least no more special than the next. And that very few people will ever truly know us, or bother to get to know us on a deeper level.

Thankful for music like this to allow me to release emotions that I bottle up. The beauty of this song speaks deeply to me with the passing of my mom and baby. As I sit hear listening, streams of tears running down my face, and goosebumps consuming me. All I can say is, thank you.

Love the Goo Goo Dolls! They are insanely talented. Master lyricists, too. The lyrics are poetic and has it's own story to tell. Just like a slow-burning love; the more you spend time listening to it - the clearer you become and appreciate the whole thing

Our organs, our DNA, our cells, our urinary systems, our circulatory system, our neural functions, our unique fingerprints, and so forth. Our mothers cannot create any of these things within or outer part of our bodies. But still we love our moms.

this is the song that made the goo goo dolls. literally. john had played music since he was 19 and made the pact with himself if he did not have a hit by the time he was 30, he was quitting music. hit the charts when he was 29.
