The thing is.... they were really brilliant musicians! I mean technically listen to how the interweaving of the sax and the bass and the guitar shimmering away in perfect time and pitch. Brilliant!

First time I took acid, in bed with a cold, parents downstairs, I put their album on replay all day. What a perfect day.

I believe it's Mike Howlett the OG bass player for Gong. He's a record producer too.

This is one of the greatest bands of all time, no really they are something very special. Behold a higher realm dear friends, for these are musical avatars, this happens but once every few centuries. This is creativity to be cherished, adored and incorporated into your very soul. The blissful freedom in everything they do is the most healing, invigorating, inspiring and fulfilling thing I have ever experienced in a musical performance. Simply gorgeous and a true angelic gift to the world.

In answer to real/ parody/ comedy. It is a mix. Brilliant muscianship and arrangements. Themes: some fantasy...pot head pixies and flying teaports, comedy....planet Gong and a little astro archaeology thrown in which Hillage explored much more in his solo projects. They are unique in this field of subject matter and it all started in a French commune. Daevid Allen was a bit of a cult figure but in the nice sense.

Bertrand Russell circa 1952 flying teapots are a real thing in the sense of shrodingers cat ie a scientific thought experiment or mathematical concept. The burden of proof for a theorem is on the proposer not on the dissenter. You can't say there exists a teapot too small to be observed in orbit around the sun just because nobody can disprove it. Even if that concept is recorded in ancient texts such as the bible.

By the way I was being ironic. Of course there are FTs and PHPs. Some say the world is divided into people who love Gong and those who have never heard of them. I would like to propose a third category, those who have believed the guff they’ve read and dismissed Gong as “silly” or a genre they don’t like!

I have the DVD, (Gong Family Unconvention - Amsterdam, Nov 2006). Not sure if it's still available. It's great.

Never heard Gong before, Tim Blake should never have played with Brock's Hawkwind, this musician ship far exceeds it. brilliant stuff

Armsterdam, in 2006...Search "Gong 2006 11 5 MelkwegAmsterdam " in YT, you'll have the full show... But Gong start to play in the beginning of 70's and was a fucking good band ! Rip Daevid...

Haha nope it is definitely round. Check history, Gong are very real, when Branson first started Virgin records Gong were one of two bands he released an album for, Gong released Camemberr Electrique, and the other was a certain Tubular Bells by Mile Oldfield. Very real my friend

No, I was merely querying whether what they do is 'real' given it's so laughably absurd in a Monty Pythonesque manner.
